Just as an aside - anybody else come across this before?

Only heard about it for the first time this morning but if it's real it's uncanny!

By coincidence, I recently watched an episode of Family Guy where Peter dodges his checkup and then tells his wife that the doctor told him that he's too healthy and in too good a shape.

I still remember the MAGA types here telling us how much of a wreck Biden was but now that it's Trump, all this is somehow just normal behaviour.

If Trump puts 100% tariffs on Irish/EU manufactured pharmaceuticals like he was ranting about a few months back, Ireland will have nothing left to lose with the US.

So cash in the bonds I say. There is also the risk that Trump will convert them into 100 year bonds making them worthless. I would dump them. Too risky to hold with Trump in power.

"Zero Day" with De Niro is a good mini series, to watch the influence of Tech and Hedgefund owners and how they can apply themselves onto US politics.

I would add a fourth. I have found that too many people will repost an article based purely on the headline (and maybe first two lines if the hyperlink shows them), without actually reading the article itself, following links in the article, or otherwise doing critical analysis. They have enough time in the day to cross-post, re-tweet, whatever, then it’s time to deal with whatever next hectic thing is going on in life, be it work, kids activities…. As “Jonathan Pie” ranted, “retweeting a greenpeace post doesn’t lower your carbon footprint. Get out there, and engage”

I asked my dad once how they managed to make things work in the pre-internet days, when you had to walk into a bank, travel agent, post office, hardware store, etc…We have all the modern conveniences, but still not time. He thought about it and concluded that expectations were different then.

Trump says he "passed it brilliantly". How do you "pass" and MRI? 😁 Does he think it's an intelligence test?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭CrazyEric

He also had a covid test in which he scored 50 and an IQ test that came back positive.

That Man hasn't a clue about anything.

Think of an auld irish bachelor who hasn't worked a day in his life and had everything handed to him, hasn't a clue how anything works, and sails through life without a care in the world.

Now change that auld Irish bachelor for an old city alicker from new York.....

It affects Orbán and his policies. He wants to be Russia's catspaw inside the EU, continuing and deepening the Hungarian trade with Russia and delaying and blocking new EU sanctions on Russia as long as possible. That's the role he has decided to play post invasion of Ukraine.

Damage to the Russian oil & gas companies caused by the US tightening sanctions (this probably would have happened before now in step with the EU, if Trump had lost election) affects this and makes it harder for him.

I would say Orbán expected the US would just let the sanctions lapse over time (that was kind of what was happening) and would eventually begin to pressure the EU to end them too as part of their bogus "peace" efforts, hugging up to and offering carrots to Vladimir Putin.

edit: Apologies, language being used around these things can be kind of loose and I fell into that trap there. You're right a US tariff here doesn't affect Hungary (or even Russia or their oil companies). It's extra US economic sanctions on the Russian oil companies that have an effect here, and what Orbán may be displeased about and what above applies to.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/e-jean-carroll-beat-trump-123902368.html

"And no, Trump hasn’t paid Carroll a cent of the $83.3 million — not yet.

The president is still appealing both decisions.

“We’re through the appeals process,” Carroll said at the Montclair screening. “On the first trial, he lost every single appeal. He will now appeal to the Supreme Court.”“On the second (trial), we won that case, and we also clean sweep in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals,” she said. “He will go to the Supreme Court and we don’t know what will happen, but looking at the history, we have never lost to him. He has always, always lost.”

Jean's backer, Reid Hoffman has stuck by her all the way and has the kind of money whereby he will not settle with Trump and continue to make him smell.

From memory monies are held in a bond by the court do Trump cannot just walk away from the result.

The film/documentary discussed in the link sounds very interesting as was the movie about Trump's early days, "The Apprentice".

Because of Hungary's apparent dependency on Russian oil imports, whilst a member of the EU, which is trying to reduce use of Russian oil after it, as a bloc, imposed sanctions on in an effort to affect Russia's income on oil exports and ability to fund its war on Ukraine. On the issue of oil-flow, it's very important when your country is land-locked. EDIT for this and a link-address: Hungary currently imports around 95 percent its natural gas supplies from Russia, while during the first half of 2025, some 92 percent of its oil imports came from Russia. He had an MRI too. There’s something up with the way he walks of late as illustrated in his meeting with Putin. His stance is wide, he can’t walk straight and he swings the right leg round in a wide arc.

    Good observations.

This is why, when someone talks about a third term, he will be lukcy to live this one out without assistance.

    The decline is real.

Of course the decline is real. But absolutely nobody seems to care.

Thank you for your detailed reply, but if the US imposes tariffs on Russia surely that could result in more oil being available for Hungary, why does a tariff on Russia affect Hungary? If the US is reducing demand by tariffing oil, surely that could even potentially make it cheaper for Hungary?

Probably has a catheda bag strapped to that leg and its full of piss most of the time. His insides are rotting and he's on daily diuretics to flush the crap out, hence the bruising on the back of his hand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭Ardillaun

Something like that or a severe orthopaedic problem would be among the more benign explanations.

AZs long as people in his administration can easily lure him into pursuing their own agendas, they'll be fine with him in any condition.

I'd imagine they'd be quite happy for him to die in office and use the transition to Vance to push more of their agenda through.

That will only get them so far. But they will continue to use him for their own agenda.

Good question. It looks like the U.S would apply the tariffs to the country doing the importing. I'm not even sure how the oil imports get to Hungary as Russia's shadow fleets suer as hell cant access Hungary directly.

As an immediate reply, apparently the tariffs also have an effect on the country doing the importing, which in this case is Hungary, by pushing up the price of the imports to the importer. I'm not sure exactly how or where the tariffs are enforced to have a cause and effect on Hungary but it seems they do. I suppose one way the tariffs would work is if it cost Hungary's exchequer money.

In July 2025, United States exported $279M and imported $1.13B from Hungary, resulting in a negative trade balance of $847M. That's one hell of a trade deficit for the U.S, which if weaponised by Trump could force Hungary to agree to an actual deal with the Trump Admin trade Depts.

Trump has made a rambling nonsensical speech in Japan, one of his topics was the huge number of warships the US produced during WW2. Always the diplomat!

Apparently even Newsmax pulled away from the speech.

Here is CBS playing its role in the Military Industrial Complex with a soft PR setting piece to portray Venezuelans as having to be saved by American Intervention.

    Screenshot_20251028_233904_X.jpg

I knew we'd see sh×t like this with on the back of the Rick Scott piece they did at the weekend.

Its suggested elsewhere today that US military leaders who will likely be involved in anything action are being asked to sign NDA's.

The woman who has won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025 called for foreign intervention in 2018.

I think Maduro is a dictator. We have seen how he shut down the Parliament that opposed him and replaced it with a rubber stamp puppet assembly. We've seen the motorbike gangs he uses to suppress the opposition.

Now there are allegations he is a running a narco state.

It's not impossible that oil is the bigger reason the US is threatening Venezuela. But I think in this case, many Venezuelans night welcome an invasion to remove a tyrant. But Iraq shows that intervention is risky if there is no plan for the day after. Its important that if there is intervention, an international administration is established to stabilise the country and protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia ended the Pol Pot regime and its genocide of its own people, which had killed 25% of the population. I think there are exceptional circumstances where military intervention is justified on humanitarian grounds.

I think the UN should have authorised a military intervention to stop the war in Gaza.
