One of my "its officially Christmas" moments is when I hear Fairytale of New York in the wild. It doesn't count if I've put it on.It needs to be on the radio/tv/in a shop etc.

These songs don't, for me, but I've just come across these versions and I didn't know where to post tem (please do move it if you find a better place). Postmodern Jukebox's early stuff was jawdropping.

Fairytale of New York was played yesterday on RTE Gold. 😁

They were apparently doing a countdown of all songs that have place names in them, I just caught the end of the programme.

All time classic! I’m surprised it hasn’t been used or covered in an ad for Christmas.

The Christmas Song (chestnuts roasting…) by Nat king Cole is THE Christmas tune for me. The velvet voice matched to those timeless lyrics is pure magic and evokes those Christmas feels like no other.

O Holy Night, sang by the local boys school choir at their annual Carol Service.

For me it's the original version of Band Aid - Do they know it's Christmas. I remember it coming out and the impact it made and what makes it Christmas for me is the first few chimes of bells at the start of it, it just grabs you.

That must be Nigel with the brie...

It was a victim of the culture wars, a few naughty words in it. Isn't there an edited version they play on the radio now?

I always ring my wife when I leave work on the last day before Christmas and sing driving home for Christmas, badly and don’t know much of the words but it’s a tradition now.
I love last Christmas by wham and fairytale of NY, see it mentioned up further but Jona Lewie, stop the cavalry is a belter albeit wasn’t written as a Christmas song.
bing and Bowie is awesome and I have a seriously soft spot for east 17 stay which also wasn’t written as a Christmas song.

I'm a fan of the usual, Bing, Wham, Band Aid Pogues...

However since the kids came along they always love singing "Christmas Time Is Here" by the Old 97's

Not traditional in any sense of the word but always makes me smile and gets me into the spirit when they start singing it... Every minute of every day of December

Despite the lyrics, I hold this song off until after Christmas and have it tagged as a 31st December song!

I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake is in my top 3, along with Wham and Bowe/Bing.

Following close behind is Troika by Prokoiev. I remember when Tom Dunne was on in the morning on News talk, he would start his show every morning in December using that as the theme tune. It really helped me get in the mood. Can't believe it's so many years ago now that he was in that slot.

I used to love that on Tom's newstalk morning show too.
