there isn't an and? I was just adding a bit more info to help other people

not sure what to make of your reply tbh.

It didn't say anything about a delivery option, it just said "Select store".

That'd be fine if the local store was listed, or even one of the several around which are less near, but nearly all of them in Dublin aren't.

If you'd selected a store you would have seen delivery options. But you obviously didn't.

Delivery showed at €10ish for nationwide and as low as €3.69 for a store near me.

I really don't see how this is my problem. I put up the offer. If you can't or won't avail of it I don't know what you want me to do.

for anyone who can't or won't avail of the Carry Out offer, Red Breast is also available from O'Briens @ €60 with free collection at 32 stores nationwide, or €8.99 home delivery.

Nobody suggested it was your problem or wants you to do anything about it. Their website is crap. Definitely their problem.

First test run off the Foxes Bow pouch here, very nice I have to say. Haven't had Foxes Bow before, quite a sweet whiskey but very, very drinkable. And the pouch works great for carryability. Think this'll be my go to for gigs and matches now

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 3,475 Mod ✭✭✭✭Black Sheep

Not being a big gig or match goer, I wonder if I am not understanding the concept of the Foxes Bow pouch properly. Is it that they're lower profile and less detectable … But is it much different than a hip flask?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,163 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Ah yeah, just a little more subtle, disposable and convenient. I love my hipflask but I do worry sometimes about getting caught with it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,405 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

Less detectable I'd imagine, and you can chuck it out when it's done. Rather than having to fill, bring home, and clean out a hip flask.

I guess the are going for a gap in the market. They seem to be going after younger drinkers as a brand anyway. I like Two Stacks dram in a can, but once it's open, you can't reseal it, which annoys me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,152 ✭✭✭✭Basq

It's an 100ml measure so I don't think it's unreasonable that it can't be resealed.

Either have two 50ml measures, or share it.

I use little flat 50ml bottles like these. Usually 3 for a gig but more or less as required. You can spread them around your pockets and they are very inconspicuous to drink from. Also, you can have something different in each. Love them.

If it's something I'm having while out and about, I don't want to have to hold it in my hand the whole time.

Picked up a pouch yesterday for the craic, whiskey is grand and I can definitely see use cases.

Branding definitely targets younger drinkers which may be questionable.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 3,475 Mod ✭✭✭✭Black Sheep

I read some of their marketing blurb a while ago. Although they target younger drinkers, I think it's the 20-something crowd, right?

Could still be questionable in business terms, I got into whiskey in my 20s but was still drinking less of it than I do now, I guess.

What's considered a reasonable price for Lagavulin 16 in Ireland these days?

Thanks. Up until the pandemic, you used to be able to get it for 55-60 over here, as standard price. Has shot up the last few years into the 90-100 bracket. Saw it in a shop close enough to me for 75 and bought two of them! Only thought to check Amazon afterwards and it was on offer at 85, down from 99.

Anyone try the new Green Spot Anniversary yet, it's the standard green spot, but at 46% abv I believe.

I tried it last night. It was lovely, as I expected. It's a 10 year old. It was €3 more than the standard Green Spot so worth a try. Tempted to pick up a bottle.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 10,149 ✭✭✭✭mik_da_man

Cheers, would definitely be worth it for that price difference

Showing as €20 more on the Midleton site which is a bit less interesting. Moot though as it's out of stock

Edit: Available in Mitchells and probably elsewhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 375 ✭✭Lester_Burnham

It was €3 more for a measure. As should have been fairly obvious.

    Hi All

My whiskey journey is coming to an end and I have a bottle of 2024 Midleton Very Rare boxed and unopened.

Is there anywhere I could put it up for sale?

Not looking to make a profit on it, I'd rather just sell it on than open it.

Is 200 quid a fair price to expect?

(Mods please delete post if not allowed)

    Thanks

Picked up a 1L bottle of Buffalo Trace at Heathrow Airport T5 for the bargain price of 21.97GBP. The same bottles were also on shelves, elsewhere in the terminal, for about 26 GBP.

Slightly unusual, I think: These were US ABV, so 45% versus 40%.

I was flying back from the US and - contrary to my experiences there 10-20 years ago - the bourbon certainly wasn't cheap over there. There were lower-end but good supermarket bourbons that we just don't get here (or if we do, they're priced as if they were middle of the market). But a lot of what is premium-priced bourbon here was also pricy over there.

US duty free definitely not as cheap as it was.

Picked up a 1L of Grey Goose in The Loop (small one before leaving into Arrivals hall) in Dublin for less than it was in Philadelphia Airport.

UK is where bargains are for sure.

Some rebranding \ repackaging going on at Jameson.

Jameson Crested get's a snazzier label.

Jameson Distiller’s Batch is the new name for Jameson Single Pot Still.

This award-winning single pot still liquid remains the same, carefully crafted by master distiller Kevin O’Gorman and masterfully aged in five different types of oak casks hand-selected by the team at Midleton for a whiskey that is equal parts complexity and smoothness. With O’Gorman’s signature featuring proudly on the front, this new elevated pack signals the quality of the liquid inside and celebrates the role of Midleton Distillery’s Master Distiller in the crafting of Jameson.

US duty free was indeed poor, but even the liquor stores I was in weren't carrying bourbon at a very attractive price.

In London another standout I saw was Lagavulin 16 at 65 GBP.

Ardara cask strength 2025. 3 and a bit years old.

Apparently they haven't decided yet if each year's release will be varied in some aspect.

Did a side by side tasting with the basic 46% abv and both are excellent, but the cask strength - when tried neat - blew me away.

I know the price will be an issue for some, but if these are within your budget... and you like seriously peated whisky, I recommend.

The PPM must be up there with the peatier Islays- this is campfire ashes territory... Very high quality distillate but it may not be for the Irish Whiskey crowd who are strictly about softer, unpeated whiskies.
