    Absolutely.

He has x factor speed, esp in open play or when the play breaks up

    Happy enough with this lineup.

Munster Rugby: Shane Daly; Diarmuid Kilgallen, Dan Kelly, Alex Nankivell, Thaakir Abrahams; JJ Hanrahan, Ethan Coughlan; Michael Milne, Lee Barron, John Ryan; Jean Kleyn, Fineen Wycherley; Jack O’Donoghue (C), John Hodnett, Gavin Coombes.

Replacements: Niall Scannell, Jeremy Loughman, Ronan Foxe, Evan O’Connell, Ruadhan Quinn, Jake O’Riordan, Tony Butler, Shay McCarthy.

Thats an exciting looking 11- 15.

Great to see Hodnett & Kilgallen back & see how Evan goes off the bench.

What an opportunity for Jake o Riordan

🤞 JJ dials it up a mark

Glasgow will be a tough one to get tickets for, the last few times Munster played there were sell-outs. Small stadium plus if the last few times we played them in thomond is anything to go by it appears that we have formed somewhat of a rivalry with them. Viagogo or Twickets might have tickets from season ticket holders and could be your best chance

Against his old club, with his new, old, old-old club.

Good to see Coughlan made it back, we were in bad need there. Think we've a strong enough team to get the job done, very happy with the starting 15, even if backs on the bench look a little callow.

(It's a really strong 11-15 that I'd be happy going into a CC game with tbh)

Would love to have seen O'Connell start this one just to see what he's made of but probably the right call to have him on the bench, a very exciting prospect.

He actually started a couple games last season including at home to Stade Francais.

Ticket sales look absolutely shocking tickets available in practically every section of the stadium for an interpro, something going very wrong in Limerick.

Nothing at all wrong with Limerick. Limerick fans alone will never get near filling the ground. Fans need to come from all over the province and farther afield to fill it.

As I mentioned, Abrahams is constantly looking for interceptions. If he gets one anywhere on the pitch it’s a try. There was a moment around 65.50 when he and Osborne were chasing the same ball. Fortunately for Osborne he had a big head start and the cavalry arrived to help him. It’s good for Irish rugby that an Irish team is training with a great player who is also a genuine speedster. We’re well used to containing the bish-bosh merchants like Lowe, also highly effective in their own way, but the pacemen offer a different threat out wide as South Africa and France demonstrate. The sidestep before the penalty try reminded me of Kolbe.

Here's a good resource I came across recently, can't vouch for its accuracy but it looks like it might be reasonably OK.
    https://all.rugby/club/munster/squad

Going by that list, there are roughly half of the roster contracted to end of this season.
My guess who will be released in bold.
LHP: Loughman, Donnelly, Hadden [Yr3 Acad]
HKR: D Barron, Scannell, Clein [Yr3 Acad]
THP: Ryan, Salanoa, Bartley (short-term), Foxe [Yr3 Acad], McSweeney [Yr3/Yr4 Acad]
LCK: C Ryan, E Edogbo, Kleyn,
    BRW: Gleeson, O'Donoghue, Hodnett,
    SHF: Casey, Coughlan, Patterson,
    OHF: Butler, Hicks [Yr3 Acad]
    CEN: Gibbons,
    BK3: Smith, Abrahams, Nash, Kilgallen.

In my opinion, planning next season's squad roster:
LHP: Hadden could take Donnelly's role as 4th choice loosehead. (Next season could be: Milne, Loughman, Wycherley, Hadden).
HKR: I would push the boat out on Scannell and try to get him to stay on another year and promote Clein to a 1-year dev deal. The question is will the IRFU allow 3 senior hookers plus 1 development player. There will be another option the following year of Sheahan stepping up too. (Next season could be: D Barron, L Barron, Scannell, Clein).
THP: Tighthead will be very complicated, J Ryan will almost certainly retire, depending on Salanoa's health I would offer him another year if he can show something worth keeping or maybe 2 years if he excels, Bartley is on a short-term contract so once Salanoa gets going he may be released. With Foxe and McSweeney both ready to step up, it looks like Foxe is more likely so far, so he might fill the space left by J Ryan. (Next season could be: Jager, Salanoa, K Ryan, Foxe).
LCK: I would expect Kleyn and E Edogbo to be renewed for 2 years, assuming Edogbo proves his injury woes are behind him. Haven't seen C Ryan yet so no idea if he might prove himself to get another contract. (Next season could be: Beirne, Kleyn, Ahern, E Edogbo, Wycherley, O'Connell, C Ryan)
BRW: All should be kept for 2 more years. (Next season could be: O'Donoghue, Quinn, Hodnett, Kendellen, Coombes, Gleeson).
SHF: All should be renewed for 2 years. (Next season could be: Casey, Coughlan, Patterson).
OHF: Haven't seen Hicks yet so possibly Butler will be kept on and Hicks might get a 1 year development deal, he is still very young..(Next season could be: Crowley, Hanrahan, Butler, Hicks)
CEN: Gibbons hasn't featured to date so hard to know if he might get another 1-year contract. (Next season could be: Nankivell, Farrell, Kelly, O'Brien, Gibbons).
BK3: I'd renew them all. (Next season could be: Smith, Abrahams, Nash, Kilgallen, McCarthy, Daly, Haley, O'Connor).

Think that's 45 in total, so probably there might need to be a few cut as to bring squad down closer to 40-42.

would be surprised at Hicks getting a development deal tbh. he didnt play much irish 20s, was benched a fair bit by garryowen last few seasons in AIL behind woods sons and kelvin langan. is 21 early in new year if doesnt push for any decent amount of URC minutes this season i wouldnt be so sure of keeping him on

He's looked great in the A games though, including last week. Not sure who advised him on Garryowen but it's not suited to him at all. I hope he gets a shot in the senior team because I love the way he plays.

Very happy with that lineup under the circumstances with players gone into Ireland camp and injuries after last weekend. Important that the big win in Dublin last weekend is cemented with a win at home vs. our Western neighbours. It's a game I'm looking forward to.

Strong back 5 in the pack, need to make hay here again as we did in the Leinster game. Also, it's a good opportunity for our front row to redeem themselves at scrum time but Connacht will be no push overs in this regard. Backline has plenty of pace, will be good to get the ball wide if we can win the fight up front. Delighted Coughlan is playing and not injured, he's developing nicely.

Front row replacements are solid but not exactly impactful, looking forward to seeing O'Connell and Quinn come on. Half back replacements aren't the strongest but overall it's a 23 that are good enough to win if they get the required level of performance out of themselves. When is the Connacht side being named? They are probably worse off than us with guys going to Ireland camp.

I loved that the Munster were celebrating the win after the game. I think it's important to celebrate wins like that as it brings joy and togetherness into the camp and makes it a more enjoyable environment. I know that no trophies were being handed out but I believe it's vital to celebrate the short term while still aiming high.

Was listening to the left wing podcast, and Luke Fitz was very critical about how Munster celebrated. It was fairly pathetic I thought from him. Came across as bitterness.

I'm with you. Great to see celebrations but also loved the aura from MacMillan and camp after about moving on from it and we need to back it up.

Have a fierce positive feeling about Munster, which is great in itself. Bouncing through the week looking forward to the game at the weekend. All the best parts of supporting a team.

It's Luke Fitz. No more needs to be said.

Of course it should have been celebrated, we hadn't beaten Leinster away in yonks. It also hopefully is a good sign of a changing of the guard at Munster, POM, Murray and Earls now gone. But Crowley, Coombes, Farrell et al showing that they can take over. Luke Fitz is a plonker anyway, likes to be controversial for the sake of it.

Shouldn't have to say this as it's widely understood, but you can take it that Luke Fitzgerald absolutely doesn't speak for Leinster fans.

I hope Leinster celebrate just as wildly when we beat you in thomond on the 27th Dec, I'll certainly be celebrating hard down there 😜😄

In contrast to Luke Fitzgerald, Madigan's analysis continues to be excellent:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,973 ✭✭✭shootermacg

I like Luke. He wears his colours on his sleeve. But at the same time he's very fair and consistent in his outlook. He makes no secret that he's pissed that Leinster lost, but I'd never discount his opinion.

He did have a bit of a blip over project players, but his opinion is constant and he still probably has the same opinion.

Most of the pundits are just shills for cash and their opinions are coloured by their paymasters. Luke just tells you what he's thinking, not what the agenda is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,426 ✭✭✭ionadnapóca

Only problem is what he's 'thinking' is misguided and mostly wrong. He loves a bit of sensationalism and has to say stuff for hits etc. e.g. Problem with Munster celebrating.

I would encourage everyone not to listen to that podcast.

Time better spent listening to Madigan and Molloy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,973 ✭✭✭shootermacg

Molloy? Let's just tease that out, drill down into it and unpack it..

The guy has said on many occasions that he hasn't even watched the games. That show on Virgin is just dour. I'm delighted we managed to get Hugh "I'll fight you" Cahill moved on.

Not saying I hate him, but if they shot himself and Matty mate into the sun, I would feel zero emotion.

Madigan is a great watch, he said once, that he makes an effort not to be too critical of individuals and he's better for it. The little analysis pieces he does are magic.

Was just watching RTEs interview with McMillan there.

He mentioned that Edogbo complained of dizziness at half time so they took him off. Said he won't use him again until Stormers at the end of November.

He said Paddy Patterson was similar.

Diarmuid Barron had a stiff neck, but it's loosening up by the day.

Smith has a hamstring injury and an MCL niggle, but no timeframe on his recovery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,201 ✭✭✭50HX

I gave up listening to Luke.

He talks alot without actually saying anything.

His default for the 3 provences outside Leinster is....they've a good side, I like them but can they keep everybody fit...I don't know how many times he comes out with that line
