So the new season is nearly upon us.

I was very surprised to see Malcolm Brogdan retire at 32. He was great for the Celtics while he was there.

Bojan Bogdanoviv retired as well. I was a little surprised at that bevsude he played good ball last season.

Lots of big moves including my Celtics trading away Porzingis and Holiday. Bane to Orlando and the first ever seven team trade to get Durant to Houston are the ones that stood out to me.

Good to hear from you EE, I thought the threads had died!

In my opinion, not a whole lot has changed. Lakers will be touted as contenders, but will fail to hit those heights. Denver will be brilliant as will OKC. The step forward that Houston took was tempered with the step back of the FVV injury.

Only major impact / change from last season is that Boston won't be up there.

Cracking game of ball to open the season. Double overtime and the Thunder win it by one.

Holmgren is a future MVP I think but he probably has to leave the Thunder to even be considered.

Any outsider MVP bets for this year? I'm wondering what Wemby has to do to get it (last time I checked, around 11/1)

It's hard to see past an SGA repeat or Jokic again getting the award he deserves every year.

Doncic, because he is with the Lakers, has a chance.

The only outsiders worth considering are Giannis, the Bucks have done some serious retooling and could be very serious. If they make the finals it could be him.

The other is Anthony Edwards, they'd love to give it to him to break foreign streak of MVP winners. Last USA winner was Harden in 2018.

Wemby could force his way into MVP discussion if the Spurs ended up making the play-offs. But its likely too early as Castle and Harper need more time to be able to contribute at that level.

But Wemby could easily do a Jokic and just drag them along by himself all the same.

I've been wanting Chauncey out of Portland for ages now, never expected it to happen like this…

Connected with Terry Rozier's arrest AND the mafia.

Apparently they are totally different things. I think Rozier's is related to sports betting and Billips one is a poker game with mafia connections.

Jokic has four consecutive triple doubles at the moment. He's been on fire since the season began.

I got to see Alex Sarr the other night, he looks the business.

And Ja Morant is throwing his toys outta his pram already.

Wonder will Memphis just give up on him by now?

The Sooners are ridiculous. They went up by 35 tonight and sat the starters with 3 minutes left in the third. Backups come in and make it 50. That squad is so strong.

And still only one loss on the season.

Giving this a quick kick in the hope of re-igniting the thread!

Have been watching a lot of the Lakers - god they are terrible still. Yes, Luka can get hot but the trio of LeBron, Luka and Reaves cannot play together and then I don't know how Kennard fits in.

The Knicks are looking really good on defense. I think they'll be a danger to all in the playoffs.

The Thunder are incredible but I'm loving the Pistons having a great season.

Tatum back tonight, incredible how he got back so early and he's having a very good night, four assists off a triple double right now.

Listened to Bill Simmons and you'd swear it was MJ wearing 45 coming back!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,370 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Well Kobe's 81 has been topped, and who else to do it but……

    BAM ADEBAYO??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,811 ✭✭✭Corvo

Kobe will come back from the dead over that.

I know! Fair play to him … but not the dude I expected to do it.

Luka had 73 two years ago - I wouldn't write him off beating it some day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,961 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

They've won 8 on the bounce since you posted this!

Conceptually, I agree - the real problem with that trio is they get absolutely destroyed defensively. Luka and Reaves are an interesting platform to build around from next year on, but they will need to get a lot right around them. If they win tonight, they will have the tiebreak over each of Denver, Minnesota, and Houston. Still feels like a 2nd round exit at best, but two 50+ seasons on the bounce all the same, for as bad as they look at times.

Typical isnt it! And they should win tonight, Pelicans have never given them major issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,811 ✭✭✭Corvo

Not Pelicans, Rockets. Watched the 4th Quarter. Luka went nuts and Lebron shot 93% from the floor.

Been awhile, not a busy thread. As a lifelong Knicks fan, it's kind of, well, amazing to see what a run they've been on.

Plus a few days off before San Antonio and OKC are decided. The way the Knick's are playing now, doesn't matter. Cleveland was over after the Cavs blew game 1 late and really were disinterested in playing anymore. I think Philadelphia put up more of a battle, certainly Atlanta did. James Harden in Cleveland is a nonsense All-Star. Miss miss miss whine whine.

Most Basketball I've watched in decades (I'm pathetic - I watch replays.) Not much defense anywhere and the seemingly infinite 3 pointers… But, fingers crossed. Old enough to have seen "Here comes Willis! And the crowd is going wild!"

And the bad years with Bernard King, World B. Free, then Starbury and Melo. Ugh.

And the brief signs of hope during the Ewing era, except, well, it was only hope. It's the hope that kills you.

But, right now, it feels like the Finals is the Knicks to lose.

I hope the Knicks win it. So many players who play important parts and do it well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,656 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

Off we go. Wow what a series in the West. Old adage: "You can't teach height." Wembayana… different species of human, 7' 4" and shoots 3's.

I think the Finals will be another barn-burner, too. Knicks in 6, I think they figure out what to do about Wembayana, and center (and foul-giver) Robinson had pinkie surgery and will play for another body to put on Wembayana.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,997 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Well Towns and Robinson will be two interesting matchups for Wemby. Both are 7 feet.

I want the Knicks to win because of the superstar that is only my height. There hasn't been a guy like Brunson since Allen Iverson.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,656 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

OKC had Holmgren who didn't do much and old favorite Hartenstein, both 7+ footers with Hartenstein as a plus defender.

Remember when 7 feet was rare? Now every team seems to have multiples that are effective players (not the Manute Bol's/Shawn Bradley's of the world.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,997 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Well KAT is a top class player, one of the best big men. Robinson is a superb defender but not much of a threat at the other end.

Herself (absolute non-sports fan) just said: "13 in a row? Don't they give the other team a chance?"

Wembanyama's bad pass near the end of the game sealed it, but I agree with the announcer that said, "They didn't seem clear whether they wanted to push or call a time out" and with a young team and key young players that has to be made clear. Wembanyama had one idea, Castile another.

NYPD going to be earning bunches of overtime for the next two games. I've read that the cheap seats in MSG (having sat there, you need binoculars to see what's going on), are costing over $11,000. That's simply wrong.

20 million live in New York, 20k seats in the garden. That's why the prices are mental.

I'm delighted for the Knicks. I want them to win it. A superstar that's my height and I'm a big fan of OG and KAT.
