An upgrade on Dalot would make a huge difference.

Ive said before Onana>Bayindir>Lammens is needed now we need a move up to Dalot

And Dorgu showed yesterday why he didn’t start over an out of position Dalot.

Lwb should definitely be a priority

Thought the yellow Amad got was a terrible decision by Oliver. Won the ball cleanly. It effected our game when he had to be replaced

While he did win the ball, he also followed through and caught Gakpo with the studs in the ankle. On another day that could have been called back by VAR and he could have gotten a red for being reckless / out of control, its happened to us before.

On another day if Liverpool were firing normally, yesterday would have been a defeat. I have little doubt about that. Gakpo and Isak wasted some great chances.

First half performance was good from us. But 2nd half was not. We surrendered a lot of chances and our midfield was far too easy to play through. The Wingbacks were quite poor once again.

We have seen false dawns already (winning away to Man City end of last year, Chelsea at home a few weeks ago). So no reason to get carried away.

Very pleased with the win and to get 3 points at Anfield is very sweet and long overdue. But we need to see some consistency and a run of consecutive wins. Brighton next week will be an interesting game.

Was I the only person who thought Dalot improved after switching sides? I thought he was important in the last 20 or 30 minutes.

How many winners has Maguire popped up with in the last year or so?

Similarly since about last years EL quarter final Casemiro just leveled up Pokemon style and became a proper force in midfield.

For two maligned players who looked over the hill they have both dramatically turned themselves around and become rejuvinated.

He is ok when tasked with being a fullback, retreating us into a back 5. as an offensive force he is poor, and his inability to press high impacts our midfield/attacking shape defensively - and his slowness to offer an outlet or overlap means the attacking shape is nullified too.

BUT maybe in the second half especially he was told by Amorim to play more fullback than wingback/winger so the offensive issues aren't his fault. It is a general issue with him though, in this system.

He had nowhere to go . He won the ball cleanly. Very harsh yellow IMO

Agree that he is generally poor at supporting the attack. In the absence of Amad I think Mazraoui does a much better job on the right as he is much braver in positioning himself high and much better at retaining possession in advanced areas to sustain pressure.

I think Dalot is pretty much ok when playing on the right but struggles a lot more on the other side playing in both directions.

In the context of the game yesterday when United were on the back foot for the entire second half I think he was good in the final quarter, albeit he's only being tasked with doing the things he's most comfortable with. He gets major abuse here. He seems like a good pro to me and doesn't ever look like he's not trying his best, a good bit of the time playing OOP.

He beats Liverpool (the champions) at Anfield in a game they deserved to win but the armchair managers still find fault.
Yes Liverpool missed chances and they were always going to have their moments at home… as Gary Neville said on commentary you need a bit of luck to win at Anfield (and he never played against a Liverpool team like this)

Here’s a thought to all the critics on here… coming into Old Trafford when Amorim did to manage this United team was arguably one of the toughest jobs in football management history that’s going to take a lot of time to get right and of course is going to involve making a few mistakes along the way.
But maybe… just maybe Ruben Amorim knows a bit more about doing this job and more about football in general than you lot.

It'd be nice then if he started showing it with consistent results and performances.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,299 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Yes it’s as easy as that and he should definitely start doing that.

we've a relatively benign run of fixtures through to the new year now. Yes some clubs that are above us and playing well etc, but no more games against last year's top 4 until City in January. It's time to put a run of results together.

Well he's made a very poor fist of it so far, so it shouldn't be too hard to acheieve.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,299 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Good man… well said. All I’m saying is give the man a break… he’s just beaten Liverpool at Anfield ffs

Every manager of a PL team or championship or L1 or whatever knows more than any of us.

Would you maintain we shouldn't have criticised selections or tactics of ETH? Should Forest fans have shut up about Ange? Should Chelsea fans have shut up about Potter?

What a moronic position to be taking tbh - how dare any of us criticise any manager for any decision, ever. they know more.

We could have been 3 up at HT but we could have easily conceded twice in the first half and three in the second half!

Enjoyable game but we shouldn't get carried away. Liverpool are a mess at the back and still could have easily beaten us.

That’s not what I said and there’s no need for name calling either pal… we don’t need another anonymous keyboard hard man. . My point is if there’s one Monday morning he deserves a break on here it’s today after yesterday’s result.

Everyone knows on here that you never admit when you get it completely wrong .

They hit the woodwork 3 times. Had 19 shots. 52 touches in our box. And an XG of 2.76. They clearly carried a far greater attacking threat.

We rode our luck to an extent and yes, it was very sweet to get the win. There were some signs of encouragement……but really nothing to suggest we have turned a corner.

    I can better that….Liverpools last 3 league results sound like someone testing a microphone…..1-2, 1-2, 1-2

(actually heard that from a child, my nephew 😄)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,173 ✭✭✭NITRO95

You must be delighted with our season so far then considering we topped the XG table going into this round of games

Dalot gets heavily criticised when asked to play on the left and probably for good reason; he gets taken out too often and his passing can be sloppy. Having said that, his attitude is spot on, and he'll try his hardest no matter where he's put. He's a good strong right back and would probably smash it for another team who play 4 in defence. I like Dalot, but he would be better off being sold in favour of a proper wing back.

    Where's the name calling?

And it certainly seems this paragraph is talking about his entire reign, not just yesterday - and therefor criticism applied in that time.

I don't see much reason to celebrate being in 9th place, with a negative GD. Delighted is not an adjective I would use.

We can of course celebrate an enjoyable win while remaining realistic and keeping a clear perspective on things.

what it suggests to me is that we have actually signed some good players the last few windows and if we have a good summer, sign two good/great centre midfield players and a replacement for dalot we could have a very good team.

He also got knocked out of the League Cup at Grimsby. One swallow doesn't make a summer. FFS.
