A 10 year old Highline Golf still commands a €2,000+ premium over a Comfortline or Trendline Golf and the same applies to most other brands too. The new low spec Tesla's don't really appeal to me and they won't appeal to a lot of people which will thus effect their resale value

    This one's a bit debatable!

How good is the niro battery! 2021 Niro for €8950. 312000 Kms on the clock tho! Be interesting to see a battery report on that.

That's a funny one alright😂 The next cheapest is almost double the price

Who ever owned it certainly got their moneys worth. Over 300,000 km in a few years.

The rear window tint is removed so likely a taxi but it's most recent tax & NCT are private

An update. I have taken a deposit on the car and the buyer was happy to give me the offer I had in for boards members. He was quite impressed with the condition and performance of the car. An easy sell. I will miss the Ampera and hope the Ioniq can live up to expectations. Thanks for all for your input.

Funny thing is, if this was a taxi, he’s just about at the mileage rule that allows him to scrap it and get €20k bonus off another EV.

It would baffle me why they didn’t go that route and by selling their for €8k and then getting the 10k grant they are worse off.

Unless they are getting out of the business.

It seems that one with 108km sold, hopefully one of boardsies got it 😀

    Very strange.

I'm somewhat tempted by these high mileage EVs but it'll be another 6 months or so before we look for a second one. Id have no issue if the degradation is within expected norms for that mileage/usage fast charging etc. Ofc there's other wear and tear to consider too. Its good to see them lasting the distance tho.

Edit: I put the question to Gemini with high mileage and regular fast charging and it came back with a possible SoH of between 83% and 90%. Based on amongst other things a UK Niro with 227000 Kms having a SoH of 97.8% and another with 480000 Kms still on original motor and battery also getting decent range. Not that I'd rely on Gemini when buying but still interesting.

no really, on the one hand optional extras have little value, esp if it’s just the stalk or better camera, and on the other hand it’s clear that people buying a Tesla gravitate towards the cheapest one possible, as you still get the brand, software, supercharger network and efficiency/range.

This is why the secondary market for model 3’s is broken and will be for some time. Sellers don’t price the cars against a new one, they price it against the price they paid, or feel it worth. Which is fine - but they don’t sell.

It seems that market has moved as car with less mileage and year younger is just 3750 euros (18%) more.

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/tesla-model-3-rwd/40333819

Assuming cars deprecate about 20% per annum it should be just below 20k.

    It's quite well priced.

I sold a 222 Model 3 RWD in June with 69k on the clock for 22.5k. It was priced to sell fast and I had an offer for an extra grand after I had taken a deposit and a line of people with cash waiting for the sale fall through. Mine had less miles and a bit of warranty because of that, but the car listed is younger and looks to be in great shape too. It's worth the asking from what I can see. Of course, I would be looking for a bit of a discount anyway because it's blue 😄

Depreciation isn't 20% per year. It varies, but most cars hit 50% after 3 years. Higher end cars tend to take bigger hits in year 1 as a percentage.

this car is for sale for 5-6 months, has been the cheapest 2022 on DD that whole time, and hasn’t had a sniff. But your car had a line of buyers, and one offering more than you took.

In general you’d be genuinely mental to buy a second hand M3 before we know the price of the M3 Standard, and likewise a dealer will be offering woeful trade prices for the next while too.

The whole "I BOUGHT THIS BEFORE ELON WENT CRAZY" sticker is probably showing a part of the sellers mindset that turns people off. The photos are clear, but are lifeless and glib. We don't know what interactions the seller has had with potential buyers, so it's presumptive to say it hasn't had any interest.

So a new M3, for example comes in at 5k cheaper

Its missing 5k worth of kit effectively - what effect do you expect on the 2022 M3 looking for 21k, that has all that kit?

I'm not sure it will have the impact you think it will, could be very wrong also :)

I can't speak for anyone else but my wife doesn't even notice the extras. Doesn't use lane keeping, cruise control or even the matrix headlights don't get a comment. Or the panoramic sunroof. In the minority I'm sure but out there. 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,512 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

I think that perspective would be more common than you'd think, especially with female buyers. 32K M3 will be a big hit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,516 ✭✭✭bidiots

But trim level will be priced accordingly, as with all other marks. Time will tell I suppose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,075 ✭✭✭djan

IMO the vast majority of people don't care much for the likes of most techy bits, power and driving characteristics.

I'd go as far to say that how the PCP deals stack up and year/badge are the priorities for many...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,647 ✭✭✭sk8board

what’s in the €5k that you’d pay €5k to retrofit it to a second hand car, hypothetically, versus go without?
    manual seat adjustment? Pano roof?

Extras are worth almost zero in the secondary market - but they make the cars easier to sell.

the m3 standard gets you what you really wanted, for far less money - the software, the range, efficiency and the supercharger network - and it’s a Tezzla :)

Exactly. It's just Tesla entering the options game, same as everyone else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭September1

    69k miles or kms?

BTW 20% annual depreciation compounds to 50% over 3 years, so it works for most of cars.

I think there is a difference between extras and trim levels. Typically higher trim levels do get extra until car price itself drops to couple thousand. It is pretty visible in VW ID or LEAF sales. However in case of extras that somehow is not true. I suspect that trims are easier to communicate instead of comparing every single extra across ads.

Your question should be if is 5k on new car, would you pay 2.5k to retrofit it 3 year old car or 1k to 7year old car. I think those extras at 1k would be good value to some people and unlike retrofitting do not cause issues with insurance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,516 ✭✭✭bidiots

M3 Standard will just be a dffierent trim level, same as all VAG etc.

Second hand market will behave as normal, buy the cheapest trim if thats what you want, or pay extra for the next trim level.

I'm still not sure the 'new Standard' will affect the current second hand value of the 'old Standard' with the higher trim level

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭yermanthere

I think it will effect price 3 year old, or less Tesla's. With " fears" around tech, and battery life, a noticeable % of buyers would choose new if possible.

    So 27/28 grand for a 2 year old car Vs 32 for a zero-mileage 26 plate?

I think most buyers would pick new.

And Tesla finance currently at 0.99% would be cheaper too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,627 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

The 26 version will be €32k?

    69k miles or kms?

    kms and euros

BTW 20% annual depreciation compounds to 50% over 3 years, so it works for most of cars.

If it's a compound formula, it's actually 51.2% over 3 years, but the actual point I was making was that it varies and the math is only part of it.

of course it will affect values - these are BEV cars, Tesla’s - not traditional ice cars.

You buy a Tesla for the design, battery, efficiency, range, software and charging network, and especially those who ‘just want a Tesla’ (like people do with Apple iPhone vs everything else)

You get all those things on the standard. The fact that you have to e.g manually adjust the seat or use an indicator stork is incidental really.

Traditional ice car trims looks physically different - there’s always that feeling of ‘that’s the more expensive one’ - like the Golf comfortline, trendline, Sportline, they are obviously identifiable from looking at them.

The M3 Standard will look identical in every way to a M3 LR that will be €15-20k more expensive.

€26.5k....not an unreasonable price for a 2023 model 3 with ~35k km. Presumably could be got for 26k
