Smells like someone bought a car for their little princess and she wrote it off 😂 after a month

As an owner of one of those very bad to see, definitely looks like owner inflicted damage a few times I doubt any other vehicle involved there.

An inexperienced driver could easily make a balls of one of them, apart from size they are much more potent than learners cars back in the day.

Thats a lot of action that poor car saw in 1800kms, mine has 1744 on it, washed it today by hand not a scratch on it.

Not going to post a new thread but quick question, will likely be buying a used (22 or 23) EV as my next car, would it be worth waiting until the new year as in would prices drop much?

Could go up or down. People can only guess. Buy when ready.

Not necessarily straight away like flicking a switch or anything. The same car will be cheaper in 12 months than it is now but coukd decrease next month, in 3 months, 6 months, gradually, all at once, who knows. Depends on the seller.

Plenty of decent value 2-3 year old cars out there, which cars are you looking at?

I've a few on the shortlist. Kona, Niro, Megane eTech, Model 3, Ioniq 5.. It will be the new year before I'm ready to buy one anyway as we're in the process of getting a mortgage, but just wondering if those that are slightly above budget might creep down into budget. Ideally wouldn't like to go over 20k.

We have all seen that the price of used vehicles can increase. A car listed now could see a higher asking price next week if there is demand, though not likely. Recent examples are the i3. A few months ago, prices were a good bit lower and have raised by thousands on average. 2022 saw prices of everything rocket and waiting for new cars surpassed a year in many cases. I have personal experience of that. 2 year old car had higher asking prices than new ones in some cases. Lads were buying Teslas and flipping them for thousands more because demand was high.

Start test driving them al now. Work out which one you want so you are ready to jump on a car if you see a deal.

Not a full EV but if a gen 1 leaf fetches 2-3k, this is surely a good buy. 50km range from circa 10kwh of useable battery and then a hybrid after that.

That would be my car, I have had it for a few years and am going full electric. The Ampera is a good segue into electric. The car can get 60km on battery in summer. I will be willing to reduce the price by circa 10% for a boards member. Its a lot of car for the money.

I can't think of any other plug in hybrids available for that price. Maybe a Prius PHEV but they are extremely rare here.

Rare enough alright, any idea what's causing the engine management light?

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Nice one, ye definitely update as that might put some people off, only I already have a PHEV in the fleet I'd be giving you a ring. GLWS. 👍🏻

I enquired about it but he's not willing to budge on the price at all. I don't think it's worth €21k with 120,000km on the clock and evidently nor does anyone else considering it hasn't sold after 4 months on DoneDeal. Unfortunately that seller can't see that.

Updated the ad there. As you will see I drove the car back from work and done 14km, there is still 41km left on the battery and its 13 degrees. So these cars are easily capable of doing 60km on a charge

Very cool car and had no idea they existed. Is it based on an established model or a ground up job? Just wondering for repairability and sourcing parts etc.

Its a Chevy volt but with better styling cues. They are quite rare over here. I wanted one for years and when I seen it come up for sale, I drove straight to the dealers and put a deposit down. That was a few years ago. Parts are sourced from Germany or easily through rock auto in the states. Servicing parts are easily got from autodoc. The trim however is unique to them. Things like suspension, hubs etc are shared with other opel cars. I replaced the two front wheel hubs earlier this year and got them from Germany without problems. I really would like to keep it however I have 5 cars and a few motorbikes. I am running out of room. Honestly its one of the best cars I have owned and I have had 7 series bmws, s class and cl class mercs in the past. This car is just unusual and mostly reliable. Its quite a competent motor.

if the new m3 standard is €4-5k cheaper than the current M3 SR, then this car is worth a lot less than €20k in 3 months time when it’s 5 years old.

That’s interesting albeit not surprising I suppose.

The ad is worded like the seller expected to sell this car in a day but you could only have it in late June, presumably for them to take delivery of a new car.

maybe they just don’t want to crystallise the loss and that new car hasn’t happened. “If I can’t get the price I want, I’ll just keep it”.

if the new M3 Standard does indeed end up being a €32/34k car, then the secondary market will have huge downward pressure.

For sure. Will be a lot of frustrated Tesla owners out there once again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,739 ✭✭✭✭User1998

Hmm I don't know about that. Low spec models don't really devalue higher spec cars. S-Lines, M-Sports, and AMG's etc always demand a big premium over their lower spec counterparts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,647 ✭✭✭sk8board

I would suggest Tesla is not even comparable to those.

People spec an sLine or an msport to have that sportier visual presence - The cheapest model 3 standard and the most expensive model 3 LR will look identical, but one is hugely more expensive, relatively

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,739 ✭✭✭✭User1998

Well even an AMG Premium Plus is more expensive than an AMG Line for example and they look identical. M Sport Pro is more than an M Sport etc.

Even a Highline Polo is worth more than a Trendline Polo and they look practically identical

I only got my M3H RWD six weeks ago (so no stalk or front camera) and will be keeping it long term, but if they “discontinue” this to bring in the Standard and the next up will be the M3 LR, one could argue that my spec could hold a bit of value longer as it will have a higher than base spec?

Or is that a wrong way of looking at it?

Again, it shouldn’t be effecting me either way as I’m planning on keeping this long term

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,739 ✭✭✭✭User1998

    Higher spec = higher price

Optional extras depreciate over time, but even on a 10 year old car spec is still important

    100%
on the 10 year old car I’m still gona buy the one with the sunroof over the one without. Or the one with leather over the one without etc
