Skoda Rapid intermittently not starting

    Hi,

My car has developed this intermittent problem where it won't start. It starts no problem first thing in the morning, this issue seems to happen only when I turn off the engine. Like I said if I get in the car first thing in the morning it will start no problem, then I drive it to the petrol station and when I come out it then it doesn't start. I put the key and it turns and engine tries to start but doesn't, then I have to wait 10- 15 minutes and then I try again and it starts no problem, sometimes the wait can be shorter or longer but after a while it will always start.

The car is a 2013 skoda rapid, I have had the battery checked and there is no problem with that, the car was serviced only a few months ago and it passed its NCT at the start of the summer. When it does start it is driving well and there are no problems with stopping and starting at lights or anything like as long as the engine is running. The amber engine warning light comes on sometimes but then goes off but this problem happens whether the light is on or not.

Have any others experienced this problem with Skoda's? Like I said the car is driving well and never had a problem with it, its serviced every year. Just thought I would ask.

Think you need fault codes read as sounds like a crank/cam sensor losing its signal.

Cold it starts and when hot the issues happen and let go cold again it starts.

    Popular with many cars

Try Briskoda forum on the net.

The engine management light coming on as you describe means a fault condition has been detected, and fault codes will be logged for it. The car needs someone to give it a code scan and diagnose the fault.

As it's an intermittent issue - Drive car to your mechanic and turn off engine, get mechanic to try and restart it and scan with OBD2 when actual problem is present. Certain intermittent problems may not show up on scanner when engine is running ''normally''
