The price of food in Ireland: North and South

I went on a vacation in Ireland last week and I was astonished at the difference in prices between North and South. The price of food in the south is almost three times more expensive. I'll give you an example, I ordered a pint of Coca Cola in a bar close to Talbot Street and I was charged 7.40 euro. The day before I was in Costa down the country and I ordered a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and I was charged over 7 euro. Normally I don't eat or drink out so I didn't complain. But I will never go back to Costa again after that.

In contrast, the food in Belfast is almost three times cheaper. In Centra for example, there are large cooked sausage rolls for £1 each! There are similar pastries for the same price. I went to an off street bakery at lunch time and bought two chocolate covered creamed pancakes for £2!!! I estimated there was about 1000 calories in each of them. They were huge!! In the evening, I bought a garlic cheese pizza in a take-away for £6.50!!! Astonishing.

Has anyone noticed the difference? Is this the same case in Derry City?
