I thought Taylor was anonymous enough to be honest at times today, wouldn’t say he had his greatest game for Clooney.
They have some lovely hurlers but will need a bit more bottle I think if they are to prevail in two weeks

With Peter Duggan in this kind of form, he's almost unstoppable. What a hurler.

the 1-2 he got from play every score was of the highest quality , very hard to call the final ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,860 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

i taught he got through a lot of work was the assist to the assist if that makes since on several scores and had daniel costelloe to worry about as well

both half back lines for eire og and clooney were excellent last week but you would have to look at the ballyea defending as the reason clooney are in the final , they conceded 3 very poor goals , they wont get them easy scoring chances in the final

Three games today of importance in the Clare Football championships one in senior and 2 in intermediate ,

In senior Eire og had their way once again against lissycasey , the townies were never really troubled against one of the up and coming teams in the county , eire og were rocked by a local tragedy and put things into prospective , my condolances to the o'brien family . there is probably nobody to beat them in clare this year and the double is well and truly on . 2-10 to 0-09 it finished

In intermediate , 2 years ago corofin relegated clondegad in a senior relegation playoff in extra time in clarecastle , at the same venue today corofin eventually got the better of james murriheys estuary men in a brilliant game of football, no team has gone up from intermediate after losing a game so its odds on for corofin to go up again after last years relegation in two weeks time , game finished 2-12 to 0-16 points

    Cooraclare 0-12 The Banner 0-11

Other than another fantastic performance by brian mcnamara , there was little to report on this game other than most of the second half was played to the soundtrack of the album my horse and plough by pj murihy because the fella in charge of the tannoy system forgot to turn it off at half time 😂

the banner have great forwards and shane meehan included they wont be happy with the amount of wides they had today , the excellent jake garry for cooraclare missed a penilty in the first half but made up for it in the second half , harry ogorman is a clare intercounty goalkeeper in the making at 18 years of age in a few years time another stand out performance today , coraclare wont go up this year in my opinion but when they will , they will stay up the future is bright

    Doora/barefield 3-11 1-14 cratloe

Eire Og will be joined by neighbours Doora/Barefield in the county football final after the parish just about hung on against cratloe in an open game in the park , a brilliant joe rafferty goal halfway through the second half along with a tom curran green flag looked to have the parish into their first county final since 2012 , but cratloe struck back with a volly of late goal chances , tadgh lohan looked to be pulled down for a penalty recovered to shoot inches wide , the next play podge collins had a shot blocked by diarmuid boyle to save the day and set up a repeat of this years cusack cup final

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭KIB4Life

No way should that be a penalty for Lohan, it wasn’t a pull down, it was a great diving block by O’Shea from Doora Barefield. Great bravery and last ditch defending from Doora Barefield with the two late blocks. Really good game today, compared to the trash that was displayed by both Eire Og and Lissycasey yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,860 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

to be fair eire og could only beat what was in front of them , lissycasey had little homework done on where eire og are weak because they were well stress tested by miltown and barefield in recent games , lissycasey just attacked down the left hand side of the eire og defence hoping they wouldn't notice

Barefield are a raw side they make a lot of mistakes but they have some battlers in that side , the two currans daragh o'shea eoin thyne and obviously joe rafferty, paul madden was sitting near me and he was making great praise for cian mcdonagh , he was disappointing in the first half but good in the second

i was sitting near the 45 at the tulla road end so a good bit away from the lohan incident , i also taught it was boyle that blocked it but it was probably o'shea

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭KIB4Life

I think Boyle made the last block from Podge. Tom O’Brien made two great saves. He probably has to be looked in terms of being in the county set up as well. I think he was in the panel before. He’s had a very good year.

Ah I think Eire Og despite all the talent they have aren’t the most enjoyable team to watch tbh. Walsh O’Loughlen probably will be out for the final as well looks a serious injury that he got.

Tom McDonald is some player as well, 3 points today, 2 the last day. Has such a long stride and can make great room and space for himself. He was on the county panel for 3 years and got very little game time. Yet a lot more average players have got consistent game.

Fair dues to Cratloe as well, people can talk about them getting outside transfers and stuff like that. But they always battle right to the end and have been involved in most of the best games of football in the club championship over the last 15 years, as well as what they have done in hurling.

I think in terms of the final, if it’s a dry day I think Doora Barefield can definitely put it up to Eire Og but if it’s a wet day, I think Eire Og will win more comfortably.

Big weekend in clare gaa with the senior hurling final the intermediate and junior hurling semi finals and the ladies football finals ,

the big news this week was the news that deidre murphy is to step down from her role as sectary of the county board, a role she took over from the controversial pat Fitzgerald, in her time between herself and chairman kieran keating there has been massive changes in terms of improving underage standards and an improvement in senior inter county standards over seeing two minor Hurling all ireland finals and a senior final in 3 years winning 2/3 , the funding from the sale of two houses to the value of 500,000 to the clare inter county teams and development squads and the deal with the biggest employer in the county to the value of 2,000,000 over the next 3 years , while she might not have been everyone's cup of tea to deal with in clareabbey but she leaves behind an impressive a CV and big shoes to fill for whoever takes over .

the build up to possibly the most exciting hurling final in years is at fever pitch tonight , today clooney quin ladies footballers were in kilmihil for the junior ladies final against clondegad (and ballyea) the estuary got revenge for the hurlers of two weeks ago by a narrow enough margin

Earlier in the year the clare ladies football board had the opportunity to play this years county final as a curtain raiser to the senior mens final like last year , which produced an excellent game between kilmurry ibrickane and door/barefield . tomorrow after wining 5 championships with the banner jj odeas side face kilmihil in the county final in doonbeg at the same time as the throw in time in cusack park all for the sake of a few thousand euro , the opportunity to play this years final was frowned upon by members of clare lgfa because they lost money last year playing the final in ennis

kilmihil have athletes that have played professional Afl in ailish considine , and professional rugby players in eimear considine and current irish ladies rugby captain who led ireland out in the rugby world cup in canada last month in edel mcmahon , none of these players have played a county final in the county grounds

the banners , laurie ryan captained the athlone town ladies team to both fai and league championship successes and several banner county final wins and has never played a county final in the ennis venue , its a disgrace that players , supporters and even family members are being made choose between attending one game over the other because of some fallacy over money

my message to the clare lgfa is if you want money go to the people that have it , like kieran keating and deirdre murphy done in there time involved with the mens game

best of luck to both teams in the senior hurling final tomorrow i reckon it will be a cracker , i cant call it and it has the county divided over the last two weeks , my prediction is eire og because of their defensive capability's but i would be anything but mystic meg when it comes to predictions

in the premier intermediate semi finals today o'callaghans mills backed up their favertisium to go straight back up to senior with an impressive win over a good ruan side , clarecastle hade a flattering win over 14 man whitegate , the magpies scored 3-02 in the last 3 minutes to put a gloss on what was a tight game in really tough conditions

highlights of both games with cheesy music instead of great commentary from the likes of leo dowling , streamsport take note

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 643 ✭✭✭dohboy

22 quid to stream the county hurling final is outrageous

Great win for Eire Og though, thoroughly deserved. Pretty much the whole team played well.

Duggan was excellent but just didn't have enough support

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 187 ✭✭roashter

Clooney-Quinn far too reliant on Duggan, only for him it would have been a rout

Where’s Dubs GAA TV provides a free streaming service for both the football and hurling championships. Plus you only get a month access to watch back the games from Clare GAA Tv. Thought the camera work at the start of the game was very dodgy. They were zooming in way too close to the player in possession and you couldn’t see what was happening out the field or who might have been free for them to pass to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,114 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

GAA+ charges around 10 euro per single game.

Although I suppose these are being filmed anyways for TV, they only need to link it to the website. Whereas the full cost of the Clare TV production needs to come from streaming income.

But still, 22 euro is ridiculous.

How much will football be this weekend? Not a hope would i pay 22.15 would be max.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭Stationmaster

As far as I know, it'll be the same. There was a commitment given I think that the admission price into the game would always be cheaper than the cost of watching it at home so as not to discourage anyone from going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 643 ✭✭✭dohboy

€11.99 on the Clare GAA TV site atm, just checked there. So was the thinking to gouge the hurling fans and leave the football alone… or was it changed after Sunday's game? Though it currently says Team A v Team B for the football final so maybe it's not fully set up yet…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,114 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Yes, €11.99. You could go ahead and order it now.

Whereas the Cooraclare v Corofin intermediate final is €20.

It's a bit all over the place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,309 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

No replays etc isn’t good enough for €22 or whatever it was. I’d say a lot of the price point is factoring in the highlights packages etc they do too

Finally got around to putting up highlights of last week's final , I missed the game due to the ladies final being on at the same time in doonbeg

The celebrations in my own parish were dwarfed by the scenes outside the Eire og club house Sunday night, it was long overdue and deserved

Clooney have a good young team coming through, they probably were that bit too defensive especially with the wind in the first half, Peter Duggan had a serious game but no one really made an impact for them after that, Darren Moroney , Aaron Fitzgerald, Darragh stack and David Reidy brilliant for the townies I taught

It will be interesting to see how they fare in Munster now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,860 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

Eire og are county champions for the 2nd time in a week as they managed to achieve a rare football and hurling double after a battling win over neighbours doora/barefield ,

the townies were under huge pressure for 2/3ds of the game mainly down to 2 oran o'connell goals in the first half . the 10/1 outsiders kicked 2 two pointers early in the second half to lead by 4 but the ennis men tagged on 1-08 without reply with a late gavin cooney goal and dodgy celebration and two 2 pointers put them out of sight

Corofin are back up to senior ranks after a 5 point win over cooraclare in the intermediate final , the west clare side threw everything at the favorites but goals from colin mcnamara and shane lillis were not enough to reel in the jamie malone inspired side , the cahill brothers diarmuid and gearoid amounted for 1-08 out of the 2-14 tally with cillian mcgroary and malone kicking 0-3 points each

in the junior A final yesterday , killimer returned to intermediate level after relegation last year , the ferry men had liam culligan , the kelliher brothers jack and mikey and colm pyne to thank for getting them over the line by the minimum in the end with a one point win over a young lissycasey second team

Good county final I have to say. One of the best football finals in a while. Doora Barefield can be proud of their effort, they have a young team but that doesn’t guarantee them being back there so they will be disappointed.

The likes of Ennistymon, Clondegad and Cooraclare have all been in finals and lost in the last 10 years and haven’t come back to win them. But Doora Barefield took the game down the stretch which is more than most have done over the last 2 years against Eire Og.

Eire Og probably superior bench and experience told in the end. Doora Barefield struggled with their own kickouts in the last 10/15 minutes and thus struggled to get out of their own half. Ikem made a great turnover late on to prevent a Doora Barefield goal chance which was crucial.

Think Eire Og are just missing something in terms of winning a Munster Club in the football. I could be proven wrong but just feel that they are very reliant on Mark McInerney and as well as the running power from the back, but against quality opposition in Munster they might have their hands full a bit more in the back line tbh.

Thought Corofin played some lovely football in the Intermediate final tbh. They probably shouldn’t have been down in that grade tbh, but they got the job done tbh. Played some lovely front foot football, with a good mix of kicking passing and running power. They should definitely be hoping for a good run in the Senior Championship come next.

Cooraclare are a fairly young team so should be in the reckoning again next year. They have lost some very talented players over the last few years. The likes of the O’Donoghues, Micheál Garry so if they have them or some of them back they should be in Senior sooner rather than later.

In terms of guys for the Inter county scene it would be great to see Jamie Malone and Pearse Lillis back in the county scene. Also guys like Cian McDonagh, the Currans, Joe Rafferty, Tom McDonald and Tom O’Brien impressed throughout the year for Doora Barefield.

I know Josh Moloney and Caoifhlinn O’Dea have been called up from Kilmurry. While James Killeen and Mikey Tubridy have been called up from Doonbeg. Ciaran Downes is going emigrating I heard, so won’t be around.

Obviously Keelan is gone. Emmet McMahon is injured as well and Colm Walsh O’Loughlen. But Clare definitely have a team well good enough to get out of Division 3 next year. Whether Brian Mc stays with the footballers or not is a big question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,860 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

as far as brian mc is concerned i am nearly 100% sure he has declared for the footballers for next year , i cant see jamie malone join up with the intercounty set up given that he is still based outside in the emirates , he was only coming home for corofin games and heading back out again , ciaran emigrating is similar to pearse i am told , as in go for 6 or 8 months but back for the club again next year , his cousin done the same this year , but yeah with a new manager there are plenty of options available to paul madden going forward this year ,

excellent effort by barefield they are the only team that put it up to eire og all year , the legs were gone in the last ten minutes though and they got punished for it , as far as corofin are concerned they got a few injuries last year and lost diarmuid cahill to injury early in the championship and malone wasnt around they were desperate poor in the relegation final against us so if they can keep everyone fit they could be a dangerous side next year

Cooraclare are young and have michael garry to come back too but i still think they could be couple of years away yet , i think two or three of that team today are still in secondary school so i would be playing the patient game with them ,

Ah didn’t know that about Jamie Malone. I heard from someone in the county football panel that Brian Mc hasn’t made a decision yet as such. Lohan’s definitely has asked him to join the panel. Ah yeah and from a Clare perspective at least we have a Clare man over the team this year who knows the inside of Clare football rather than these mercenaries from Kerry that don’t give a **** about Clare.
