Ben Blaney scores the bonus point try, still only 19 should be part of a decent ireland u20's squad this season

Well that was super - the streams are fantastic - even with the hour ahead in Germany. Opening few minutes of the game were crazy.

Felt we did a real number on the Lansdowne lineout tonight and were really clinical. Casper Gabriel such a talent

    Live streams of games.

had my own game so didnt see any games today. 6 tries for Ethan Graham for Ballynahinch against UCD has to be a league record?

Some are. Others can be found through clubs social media channels though bf sports analysis do the analysis for quite a few clubs so if you check their youtube channel you can find which games theyve done/will do

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 822 ✭✭✭bingobango12

You’ll usually always find a YouTube stream on the home clubs channel for 1A and most 1B games. Not sure about when you get down the leagues.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,967 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Some 1A/1B clubs will have a stream for all home games others not always.

Bective are good for streams in 2C for example. They did stream a lot of their games when junior for past few years as well

Anyone at a game this weekend? travelled to limerick to see cookies lansdowne myself. Lansdowne ontop for the majority of the first half in possession and attack i felt but whatever was said to the cookies lads in the huddle at HT it obviosuly worked because they almost nicked it high scoring second half too. The cookies winger Gilvarry is a lethal player to be fair to him.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,967 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Was at same game. Good game. Lansdowne are monstrous. Very big side. cookies will be annoyed at themselves, at george and their own decision making which let them down,

Yeah gilvarry is a cracking player.

yeah felt come scrum time lansdowne were doing well to keep up with cookies as there pack are usually quite big each season to be honest. They be kicking themselves at 1st half yeah 2nd half they came into it abit more i felt. Seen gilvarry play both on wing and at 9 personnally feel hes naturally a through and through winger. Tense finish mind you dramatic as always lol

it was said on this weeks club scene pod by one of the lads that they feel a big performance is on the horizon and tbh its hard not to argue that point based on the style of play i seen in the second half of the game tbh

AIL changes confirmed. Looks like current 2B will mostly be 2BN and 2C mostly 2BS. Makes sense, travel costs are very tough for smaller clubs

Think this change isn't going to be too problematic. Can reduce costs. W9nt reduce quality and hopefully will help boost crowds.

    Interesting. I wonder will they rebrand 1A, 1B and 2A to 1, 2 and 3.

As part of the new structure, the team that finishes 10th in Division 2A will be relegated to either 2BN or 2BS, while the first-place team 2BN and 2BS will  play-off for the automatic promotion spot. Home advantage in this play-off will be given to the side with the higher points total in the regular season.

The loser of that play-off will go in a four-team promotion/relegation play-off with the team that finishes ninth in Division 2A, and the teams that finish second in 2BN and 2BS.

By my understanding of this wording is there not a chance that either the North or the South divisions could become skewed?

If one of the relegated teams from 2A is in the South and the 2B North team wins the playoff for automatic promotion then surely there'd be one more team in 2BS?

Similarly with the playoffs behind that there's a chance that a second 2A team gets relegated by losing the playoff to (for example) a 2BN team and would be playing 2BS the next season geographically.

So how does the new structure mitigate against 2 teams getting promoted out of their league and 2 teams getting relegated into the other league?

There's every chance that could happen. If you had 5 years in a row of teams from North or South being relegated and the opposite being promoted from 2A then you will get very skewed. I'd say they will adjust on the fly.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,967 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Don't think it will too much. On phone at work so didn't go into more detail. Is difference of 2B/2C too much that it will affect sides too much. It can only be a good thing as should see more at games. Less travelling by and large

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭Strand1970

So a team that finishes in 2B this season could be relegated from AIL next season. No real benefit either in winning 2C this season as no promotion. Going to be serious pressure on 2B teams now to get promoted to have a safety net of one bad season and still remain in the AIL. Most clubs are not in favour of this change

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭Strand1970

Travel Costs won't really reduce by much unless teams are staying over night, most travel up and down the same day. 9 away AIL games per season, bus will be needed to most games outside of the cities. Saving around 5k roughly for non city clubs.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,967 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

But there will many in clubs happy about costs being reduced a lot. And in cases of some clubs this change could reduce costs by several thousand and gates go up with more local games which isn't a bad thing

In Reviews in past there's been plenty clubs not wanting to go back junior but would take a regionalised version irrc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭Strand1970

AIL will be 3 divisions going forward with 2 regional divisions. It will lower the standard and interest of rugby played in the regional divisions as the better players will look to move to 2A. Suits the clubs in the north and south but makes little difference to the clubs on the dividing line

    100% agree.

The original proposal I as I understood it was that 1A and 1B were to remain and 2A, 2B, and 2C would become regional, which does make some sense. I don't understand why 2A is now part of the top tier and remains "as is" and only 2B and 2C are to be regionalised. I presume serious lobbying to the IRFU was done by some 2A clubs, one of which with provincial Academy players found itself relegated to 2A coincidentally for the first time last season!.

The current AIL format is a good one to be fair. The real issue is that the IRFU provide a minimal travel allowance to clubs and it looks like instead of increasing this to match inflation they have simply looked to remove a large chunk of that expenditure by making two divisions regional.

There is a real risk that a 2B club finishing for arguments sake 2nd this season could find itself being relegated next year and becoming a Jnr Club. This has massive financial implications with loss of tickets etc and from a recruitment point of view makes teams in 2B and 2C unattractive. If all three division 2 clubs were to become regional this makes it more of a level playing field for recruitment between the clubs in the new division 2. The fact that teams promoted from 2B/2C and are now doing well in 2A shows there is not a massive difference between the division 2 sides at present which makes the decision baffling to say the least.
