I was joking about this guy yesterday, that I could not remember his name. But now he's going up against the Don. Country becomes Punk !

Luke Combs and Zack Bryan are probably the 2 biggest "country music" stars right now, and when I say big I mean mega. I'm no fan of theirs but they are really well known, globally, even by folk like me who try to avoid their brand of music. No surprise their gigs are in big venues and sell well.

I'm just glad that it's not a band I want to see that will be playing in Slane.

“We are all capable of believing things which we know to be untrue, and then, when we are finally proved wrong, impudently twisting the facts so as to show that we were right. Intellectually, it is possible to carry on this process for an indefinite time: the only check on it is that sooner or later a false belief bumps up against solid reality.” George Orwell.

Tickets from €121.25. I guess they'll have a big golden circle 20/30 more expensive. Not sure they can have many other prices since it's all standing.

Reckon this is the first country act to headline Slane and so many first time attendees who are in for some ballache trying leave afterwards.

8 time Grammy award winner. Luke combs sells out everywhere he goes. He has a very big fan base.

I like his music, at least the other groups aren't Irish county singers

Garth Brooks made his many millions but he must be looking in amazement at these artists who are so popular worldwide nowadays in a mostly similar genre

Fair dues to Luke Combs all the same, a lot of big stadia on this tour

They are almost a different genre of country music, brooks in his hay day was an entertainer non stop movement with all types of songs but got throw into the county category but was and is much more than that but these guys coombs and zack bryan are very very very country, girl left me all i have is my dog my gun and my country. i dont think they can be classified in the same bracket

Had to google him but I had seen this video before. It's a pretty good duet but then it's an absolute classic song and Chapman still has that heartbreaking voice so….

    So much for Oasis. lol.

I don't mind Country. It has such a broad range that I quite like some of it….. and REALLY dislike some of it. I mean of course it depends on the artist and style. There is a big difference between say Steve Earle and Alison Krause and Johnny Cash and Nathan Carter/Wee Daniel. (I cannot abide Irish Country).

I am surprised by some of the recent announcements. Acts I would not have thought would have been that big: The Weekend in Croker, This act in Slane.

But, you know what, why not? I'm in my early 50s and, while the music may not be to my taste at least it's not the same old same old again and again and again. Yes, Oasis were huge this year and Epic. Robbie Williams put on a good show apparently, Pearl Jam were here a couple of years ago. All the usual. It's good to see acts that would make people think "Huh. Wow. Never knew"

Ah sure they'll be giving the tickets away the week before the event

I'm not a country or Luke Combs fan or a lover of country but people who think they're hilarious saying "who" or " never heard of him" are showing more about themselves than the musician.

His Fast Car cover with Tracey Chapman at last year's Emmys was all over the internet and just because you don't know him does not mean he's big in his field.

I think though of Slane being a great "rock" venue are truly over. Harry Styles, Eminem and now Luke Combs playing there take away some of the gloss in my opinon.

I know his name but I am genuinely shocked at some of the country singers who play here and sell bucket of loads of tickets for a gig in a massive field. I think it's people like myself being in a Dublin bubble or something.

My first thought was he the singer from Supergrass?

Leitrim, south Donegal, Cavan, and a small bit of Laois, the target demographic for that sort of rubbish music for some reason

are the ‘2 Johnnies’ supporting ?

Big fan and would love to go. But I'm aware of the bad reputation Slane has logistically. Is it that bad? And if so, what's so bad about it?

It can be a bit of pain getting in and out.

But I wouldn’t let that stop you. Ask anyone in the gigs forum about their favourite gig memories and Slane will feature a lot.

Something you should do at least once.

Wasn't there some crazy stat about the Zach Bryan gigs in Phoenix Park that 70/80% of the tickets sold were from outside of Dublin. That's was what 140,000+ people coming from outside the Dublin. They said usually it's the opposite way around with the bulk of sales from inside the pale for gigs.

Wembley might be a better shout for fans than getting to slane. I haven't been to slane in over 20 years but I assume it's still a nightmare to get out of. I don't even know how logistically it even works there anymore.

Do most people bus it in and out? I got the bus direct from Limerick to Slane for the chillies but I was only about 16 at the time so not sure if much has changed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,357 ✭✭✭reubenreuben

Nothings changed. They were trying to bypass it with a bridge but it kept being turned down. All single lane roads to it. Nearest motorway or dual carriageway is drogheda or ashbourne. Bus is the best way or camping nearby and stay over. There's a few hotels there too.

You could get train to drogheda and bus from there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,904 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Got Travelmaster bus for Metallica in 2019 and didn't find the journey bad to/from the bus stop to Slane Castle

If golden circle leave starting walking up towards the exit/top of hill just before the start of the encore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,642 ✭✭✭davywalsh7

    I’d recommend camping

I done it for both foo fighters and guns n roses and was much more straightforward than previous experiences

drive down Fri evening/night, camp beside your car few drinks.
wake up Saturday and only a ten min walk from the entrance and drive home Sunday.

    Who?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,717 ✭✭✭TheIrishGrover

Maybe they can get Damien Dempsey to play support also and get those dub numbers up.

Imagine culchies having the nerve to go to a concert.

Joking but yeah, it's a mare to get to and from but should be done once

Agreed, did it for Foo Fighters too and was the best idea, was back in my tent within 10mins after the gig, change of clothes and settled in for the night, they also had a chip van in the campsite. If I ever go back to Slane I'll do the same
