Indeed this is consistent with other Inster forum reports subsequently found to be the “dreaded ICCU problem”

Facebook Inster forum ‘moderator’ has steadfastly refuted there’s a significant issue, removing posts saying there is, but mounting evidence here and on other forums suggests it’s depressingly widespread (repeating the pattern with the Ioniq)

and this week Hyundai UK have issued an Inster safety/performance ‘Recall’ plus two ‘Service Actions’

Thanks, I did get a nice fast charge at ESB cars over the weekend. Is that relevant at all?

Interestingly I don't have 50D197 listed against my VIN, just the other two. (car made in March)

Have collected my Inster just now. Fixed in 3 days with courtesy car provided so not too bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

so you do have the safety recall (51D129 - which I believe is the ‘sharp’ floor studs under the driver’s seat) and also the ICCU ‘Service Action’ (50D162 - which curiously is not a safety recall)

and I have no idea what 50D197 is all about - does anyone here?

Who else has some (or all 3) showing up for their car on the recall website, and who has been contacted by Hyundai or their dealer? (I’ve had absolutely zilch)

Has anyone experienced a lot of vibration on the steering wheel when going 105-120kph or so? I've never had that in a car before and honestly it doesn't feel very good for the wrists

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Colm M O C

Yes, that was the consequence of how some of the cars were tied down too tightly during transport from Korea and the tyres deformed. My dealer replaced the tyres after liaising with Hyundai and the vibrations went away.

Will get on to the dealership tomorrow and update here so, thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭xboxdad

    I called the dealer.

Actually, I've got 3 campaigns outstanding.

ICCU + screw caps + one I never heard of: Some "driver module" replacement. (they didn't tell me the codes over the phone)

Add me to the Inster ICCU list. Dropped it back today - should have it back next week.

Sorry to hear. Did you have both updates done before this happened? Trying to see how effective is the last update I'm about to get done..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭Count Hairyfoot

No I haven't had any updates yet. We only got the car in July. I rang the garage and told them what the diagnostic said and they told me to bring it straight in.

It really is piss poor from Hyundai to still be having iccu issues. In the next 2 I will be considering buying a second hand car from the mini segment with Inster near the top of the list but the list of issues especially the ongoing iccu debacle has really put me off the car.

Our Inster, 252 reg, in since Wednesday for same thing. Won't have it back until middle of next week.

    Gents (and ladies if present)

Had any of you received any prior notification from Hyundai - or dealer - about any of these issues?

Or did you only find out by being proactive? (eg contacting the dealer? or Hyundai? or entering your VIN on the recall website?)

My wife was driving but she got urgent warning messages to contact the garage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭xboxdad

I just saw someone mentioning on FB that they had the “coolant hub driver module” replaced as it broke. So that's what the dealer must have meant by "driver module".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭glen123

I think this is what broke in mine (coolant word was mentioned)

was it this message? (which doesn’t even say if it’s serious or urgent - like ‘immediately’, or ‘stop driving’ or ‘at your next scheduled service’)

    Untitled Image

and those who’ve recently had ‘ICCU’ related warranty work done, do dealers give you a ‘work carried out’ statement for your car’s motoring history records, like the invoice statements you get when you pay for a service/maintenance and other things (essential when you sell second hand to prove the car has been well maintained and all recall work has been done so that you get the best price)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,939 ✭✭✭PGE1970

It wasn't charging and told to contact dealer.

The car is still there until next week.

    Battery Conditioning

coupla weeks ago I got the BC warning light

    IMG_9798.jpeg

here it is on the dash (bottom left just below SOC%)

    IMG_9745.jpeg

I had noticed my consumption was much worse than expected - 3.3 miles/kWh (18.83kWh/100km) instead of at least 4.5-5 miles/kWh where it would normally be after nearly 5 miles, despite driving very economically (when I pulled over and took the above pic)

Then I spotted the battery conditioning warning light.

Then at around the 15 mile mark (after 27 minutes driving) the light went out and economy returned to normal until I got back home (4.7 miles/kWh over 51 miles = 13.2kWh/100km)

Weather conditions: chilly nights down to about 5c and days (about 15c and no sunshine) for a week when the car wasn’t used. So I guess the battery core would have got cold - but surely it couldn’t have been less than 6-7c?

Question - at what temperature does battery conditioning kick in? Does anyone know (can’t find anything in the Owner’s Manual)

Note the ‘Battery conditioning mode’ feature had been selected and all it says is “for maintaining driving performance… when driving in winter

Were you navigating to a DC fast charger?

On our EV6 I only ever see that when navigating to a fast charger (using the car's own navigation) in order to speed up the charging when you arrive. I've driven with snow (so 0 degrees or close to it) and I didn't see it turn on just by itself.

I've yet to see it turn on in our Inster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

it was a week last Sunday (28 Sept) and as you can see the SOC was 36% and with an 85km journey it’s possible but I’m fairly sure the nav was just set for ‘Home’ when I set off. Either way, though, we haven’t had really cold weather +winter temps yet.

Do you think 5-7c is cold enough to activate battery heating if the battery core had cooled down to this level?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 264 ✭✭cromelex

Just from my experience with the EV6 (it's the same underlying software), if you're driving (navigating) to a fast charger, then it'll enable the battery pre-conditioning even with ambient temperatures around 20°C.

This is by design, the ideal charging temperature to achieve the highest charging speeds is above 25°C or even more, if I recall correctly.

I'm not actually sure if it makes a big difference on the Inster. Is the maximum DC 120kW?

In the EV6 it's well worth it to save time, as the difference between pre-conditioning or not is quite significant, ie, without it the car would start charging at around 130kW whereas with it it'll start very close to 230kW (assuming the same starting low SOC).

Other than this scenario where you're driving to a charger, I've yet to see the pre-conditioning/battery heating show up on the dash, even with negative temperatures. Maybe it's different on the Inster, we've only had the car for a month and we've yet to experience any temperatures like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

no, max DC charge is 85kW (despite most car review sites claiming 120kW!)

so, for the battery heater to activate in just normal driving (without setting nav to a CP) the temp would have to be extremely cold (well below zero) which suggests some kind of problem because I’m pretty sure I have set nav to CPs at less than 20c and the battery heater didn’t activate

there again it switched off after c half an hour…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 264 ✭✭cromelex

The battery pre-conditioning doesn't always turn on when navigating to a charger. There's some criteria, I don't know off the top of my head but you need to be more than 30 minutes and X many km away.

So it could still be that.

I'll keep an eye on mine once the weather starts turning a bit colder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

yes you’re right - because it would make no sense for the car to activate battery preconditioning (heating, which takes about 20-25 minutes) when you’re more than 1.5 hours away from the CP

which means battery heating seems to have been activated just by driving with a cool battery (not lower than 5c)

unless this is yet another battery fault issue… 😮

They replaced either my wheels or Tires, not quite sure yet, WRT steering wheel vibration

Buuut they scratched my steering wheel in the process somehow, and the car now seems to drift left... Don't know if the vibrations are gone due to heavy traffic coming back from the centre, not exactly a happy camper right now
