You might want to be focused on the road, rather than on movie or music vids.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

the Inster system will play music vids while driving but audio only - video is cut out (legal requirement for the reason you pointed out) but resumes when the car is not being driven. Picture quality is surprisingly good - neat for those long distance charging sessions or summer camping trips

I have music vids in playlists on a portable player and I used to be able to play these using the ‘Aux’ input on my previous car but, sadly, the Inster has ditched the Aux socket (like most /all? other new cars) and I doubt that these would play over the Inster Bluetooth connection

thats horrendous tarrif from fastned. do you try the Tesla SC? should have worked out cheaper!

Is this with an app connected via Carplay or Android Auto? What app would do this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

First answer - I don’t have a smartphone but my understanding is Carplay /Android Auto replicate the smartphone display on the Infotainment screen and audio through the car stereo so, yes, it would appear a smartphone streamed movie /music vid should play through the car’s audio visual system. Perhaps someone can confirm this?

Second answer - mp4 video files (movies, music vids) on a USB stick connected to the ‘USB A’ socket will play through the car’s audio visual system. I do this myself when I’m using a charge point and they look + sound great! Other file formats may also work but I’ve not tested them.

It was cost effective for me at the time as we went shopping while there. Only done one run so far but will check out Tesla next time. Thanks.

Question Re Inster: Has anyone else noticed after a rainfall - even the next day when opening the front doors water drops come from the bottom of the door? There is no water in the floor of the car, it just seams to hold and then release when the door is opened. Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

    Interesting. Thoughts:

    • heavy rain? Windy? Passenger side too? And rear doors?
    • think I’ll ‘cancel’ these after-market sill guards - frequently wet door sills would likely cause corrosion (and void warranty claims). Shame, they look smart ☹️

Its just the front doors, drivers side gets hit more by wind and rain so has more. Dont know if its something to be worried about. I had an Opel in the past that had major water problems but that was leaking into the foot wells. The floors are dry in the Inster, its just not nice seeing water dripping from the doors!

    the Infotainment Manual

    IMG_9628.png

    Yup

and the online ‘resource’ is a dog’s dinner

    • an organisational mess
    • no logical layout
    • no word search
    • in summary, useless

Its not for the want of trying, but because it IS very trying - and life’s just too short

Who feels 100% on top of the Infotainment functions, features +operation?

With the colder weather and night driving, I cant seem to get heat into car even tho' increasing temperature/fan. I have gone into 'climate control' but no joy? What am I missing? Yes have found the heated steering wheel and seat so that is some compensation!

Is it just not as warm as you expected or not working at all?

I find EVs try to use very eco settings if you set it by default, slow fan speeds, low temperatures and only one side heating if no passenger in the car.

Switch on both sides and set temp a bit higher than you usually would and keep using the heated seats and wheel. Try turning a/c off and see if that makes a difference.

My mother has an inster and hasn't complained about it and she always likes car really warm.

In case it's something similar to my eNiro, there's a button on my dash that says "Heat", with three squiggly arrows pointing upwards - it lights up when it's switched on. I can turn the temperature knob all the way up if I like, and the top of the infotainment screen will show a temperature up to 28C before going to high or max or whatever it says - but without pressing that Heat button first, it'll make no difference whatsoever. Took me a few attempts to figure that one out. 🙄

Still not sure what is what! but did get some heat somehow… could smell the difference in 'new' car smell…. There are three lights on the Auto button… never used it before and now have found the setting that sets car in motion once drive or reverse selected and without need to dab accelerator. What are the three lights for? Once a heat setting is sorted does it come on same each time when start up?

Your last question - Yes (otherwise remote activation the car’s HVAC - whether using the key fob or the BL app - wouldn’t work)

    P.S. observe the NOTICE

My black inter is due at my house on Wednesday! Can't wait now, I just keep watching random YouTube videos on it now

The lights on the Auto are basically "strength". Same as our Kia EV6. It basically makes the ventilation stronger and makes it so it cools or heats a bit faster/more intensively, if that makes sense.

We keep the cars in the Auto "1" setting 99% of the time. It's only on a really cold or warm day that I'd use the 2 or 3 setting.

And that's just from a comfort perspective. It's not worth the time or effort to fiddle with it just to get any extra 10km range.

it’s chilly tonight (7c) so thought I’d better check the heating works OK:

    • Auto: not much happened (I guess Auto is configured for economy)
    • Manual: change mode / fan speed / defroster settings +Auto immediately disconnects
    • Cranked the temp up to 27c (max) and fan speed to max (8 settings!)
    • Result: like having one of those small portable fan heaters in the car (similar smell too) - I guess it works in the same way
    • Consumption: about the same as said fan heater - see ‘Electricity use’ screen display pic

Obviously no-one is going to have it on max for long (unless we have a really bad winter…😮) so I’d guess the consumption will be significantly less in normal use

Also, this test was with the car stationary - when driving the battery will heat up (a lot with a heavy load) so the heat pump will be providing ‘free’ cabin heat like an ICE car’s heater matrix

I am still trying to sort heating…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭glen123

Does "Start climate" when set to +24 preheat the car ok?

I had a strange one today. Pre-heat worked fine but when I started driving it was blowing cold air at +24. Got to my destination, turned off the car, turned it back on 5min later and it started heating the car ok at +24. Not sure what it was - some sort of a glitch or something.

I have had heat once but cant remember how I achieved it! Changing the temperature settings seem to do nothing. In the main menu on screen, I was going to 'settings'. Now I see I should be selecting EV and then it throws up 'climate'. I think this is where it is! But heat is bit slower to come on/change? I not think I would bother with 'preheat' unless in exceptional cold weather/

The heating and cooling worked intuitively out of the gate for me, you should call your dealership to be honest as it sounds a bit faulty to me on your end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

“In the main menu on screen, I was going to 'settings'. Now I see I should be selecting EV..”

don’t use the screen for ‘Settings’, this is not how you control the heater (and also A/c) - you must use the buttons and switches

have you tried following the Owner’s Manual instructions posted above for ‘Manual heating’ and ‘Automatic heating’?

    also note my previous comment:

    • Auto: not much happened
    • Manual: …Cranked the temp up to 27c (max) and fan speed to max Result: like having one of those small portable fan heaters in the car (similar smell too)

My heating is working and you can start feeling it just after a couple of minutes even in the Auto 1 setting. This is exactly how it happens on our EV6. It's not very intense, but definitely you can feel it.

Looks like my Feb delivery Inster has been hit with ICCU issue - red triangle appeared yesterday to check EV system and charging during the night was limited to 1.2kwh. Taking it to the dealership later this morning :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭glen123

Have dropped it to the dealer and apparently last week they had their first iccu failure, car also from the Feb batch. Got it fixed in a few days as the part was available in Dublin so fingers crossed mine will get fixed too pretty quickly . Was getting turtle mode every 5min while driving to the dealer- was praying the car wouldn’t stop in the middle of a motorway:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭glen123

So mine isn’t iccu failure but smth to do with cooling and part required will arrive from the UK on Thursday. Waiting for them to organise a courtesy car.

Is this the dreaded ICCU problem starting?

I was getting 6 Kwh charging at home in August, but has now dropped to 1.x Kwh. I did a test charge tonight and it was showing 6.x when it started, but then dropped to 1.x.
