Those wheels where free with the OG referral program, loads of folk in the UK were getting them and flooding ebay with them or just leaving them with season tyres and swapping for Winter/Summer

"Owners were invited to choose either of the options below for their third referral.

I've put in for the uncorking with Tesla. I added it to a brake fluid replacement and everything went through ok until I changed the appointment day. Now I have the appointment, but the estimate part is gone (which was €0) and the support agent is now looking into it with the remote tech team. I'm optimistic I'll get the upgrade, having a June 2017 car, but I'm waiting for the green light. I should hear back tomorrow.

It's basically like getting AB for free.

I wonder is it one of the last remaining Model S 'perks'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,253 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

Yeah, I have AB on the Juniper. The S would be a bit faster with it. The support agent said she couldn’t find the code for the service item 🫩. I’m sure they’ll sort it out. Waiting on response today.

Has anyone in Ireland had their 2017 75D uncorked here?

After a logistical juggle to get the car to Sandyford yesterday for the “performance uncorking” and brake fluid replacement, I waited for nearly 6 hours to get the car back, with only the flush done. Granted, I was 2 hours early, but I wasn’t thrilled about the service.

Arrived at noon and car was moved into shop around 4pm. Both items showed progress and then at 5:30 I saw the car was parked outside with a resolution for the brake fluid flush, but the performance uncorking (their words) had been deleted.

I asked to see the tech who worked on the car who when questioned seemed to know nothing about the uncorking and said he would go check. It was after closing time now, approaching 6pm.

The service manager came out and spoke to me. In fairness, he said they had never done an uncorking and that the master tech was off until today, so the service item was deleted. OK, but nobody told me! They just parked the car outside for me to collect and said nothing.

The service manager thinks the car needs new hardware for the upgrade, but I think he is mistaken there. Waiting on a call today about the uncorking and will need to get it back in and juggle again 🫩.

So, if anyone has experience of getting it done here, that would be great. It used to be an OTA update and in some cases, it still is. It’s all a bit murky.

I’d say you be better off asking in the Tesla UK owners Facebook page.

Fairly typical of a bad Sandyford experience in the last few years. Poor communications from them during the service, even if you are waiting there. The master tech seems off an awful lot. And if he is off, the others seem to not understand much of the slightly less usual stuff

I could see they were busy, but yeah, the lack of comms wasn’t great. Maybe I just got an anti-social tech.

    Small Update.

So I messaged them this morning and the SC manager called me just now. Apparently it’s the infotainment team that do the uncorking??? If it’s OTA, maybe that makes sense. Anyhow, he said he will ask how it needs to be raised and what’s involved as well as the cost. It’s free, I checked.

He also said there would be range loss of about 25% if I got it done. Now I get there would be some range loss with harder acceleration, but 25% seems an excessive estimate. I’d estimate 10% from what I’ve read. Range would only be lost if the car was driven harder. It shouldn’t have any noticeable impact if being used as normal. The OH will be the main driver and she doesn’t have a heavy right foot.

Shouldn't be any impact if you drive normal, I'd even question the 10%

The GOM is definitely recalibrated to show around 20-25% less range, but the actual range adjustment in normal driving is considerably less, almost negligible unless you are consistently flooring it.

It was always an OTA upgrade as far as I'm aware, but it had to be coordinated with a service centre.

Ask the Belfast SC to process it.

OTA. You may get a more professional response.

Following up with Tesla about a CPO vehicle at the moment. Asking the usual questions about ownership, history, spec etc.

I'm getting nothing from them at all. Flat "no" to providing any kind of info about work recently carried out as part of the CPO "refurbishment process", won't connect me with basic vehicle service history (even post-sale, which is bizarre), won't screenshot the "Additional Vehicle Information" screen from the onboard menu so I can see the basic spec before committing to the car, and won't confirm one way or the other if the car is a UK import (which the check websites suggest).

    Am I being unrealistic here?

Do an online history check & go see the car in person if your local.

I should add, I have paid a deposit to book it.

It's in Cork and I'm in Dublin - hence the logistical challenge.

I'm finding the 'computer says no' resistance quite puzzling.

Tesla will categorially never give you ANY pre-ownership car data, complete dead end. That's their empirical stance and they don't look like ever changing it. The great GDPR get out.

I just want to understand the spec - which they are refusing to provide. Normally you'd just look at the menu item under the software screen and check the "Additional Vehicle Information" screen. It's not available to me physically so I asked for a phone pic or just to type out the contents - refused! I'm completely blind - no info on whether it has leather or fabric seats, basic or premium sound, sunroof or fixed roof, premium connectivity, standard suspension, air suspension, or smart air suspension. All I know is 19" wheels and Enhanced Autopilot, but there's more to it.

When I asked could I have vehicle service information if I bought the car, I got no positive confirmation - was made feel like it was an unnecessary or unusual question.

Just use the VIN and any online VIN spec site, that will have lots of info

Have used that with all my Teslas, doesn't give specific vehicle information.

If a vehicle had an MCU2 upgrade, does that automatically mean the car now has premium sound (12 or 16 speaker system)?

Was in a Model S recent that was still on MCU1 and the sound was very flat and dull, but not sure if that's related to the infotainment or another option/module?

Premium sound is from birth, no retrofit, no relationship to MCU1 or MCU2. You'll know if it has premium sound with a photo of the boot, the sub takes up the "footwell" immediately inside the boot to the right when looking into it from the rear of the car

That was just a random result, try Tesla-info, that gives a lot more car info, I used this site a lot when getting my S a few years back, just couldn't remember it when posting the other day

    Along either all dealers nowadays.
They all even remove the receipts the previous owner left in the cars now.

They used to give that info in the ad. The full spec break down.

    Do you have a vin?

Not the car I'm looking at, but basically this….?

I had re-opened the service request with the previous info and the SC booking I had to get the perf uncorking. Today, the mater tech in Sandyford calls me. He checked everything out and I can get the uncorking done 😁.

I had the option to book into the SC or go with a mobile call-out. Obviously I went with the call-out and he will help the ranger over the phone to make some MCU changes. He said the SW would be updated in advance (I assume that's the P1 update) and the physical changes done by the ranger would bring the uncorking into being. I have an estimate of under €10, which is grand…i'll take it on the chin 😎.

This will be my Wifes daily driver, so not sure why I'm all excited about it 😂

Good result. I wonder why they were being so circumspect?

I'm getting the run around from the service centre in Cork. No VIN forthcoming until I "pay in full". I've told them I won't be paying until I understand the full spec of the vehicle and specifically to confirm a couple of small items.

They don't seem to know what to do next. It's bizarre.
