Last 4 in Meath in both football and hurling. Ratoath play Skryne and reigning champions, Dunshaughlin, play Summerhill who won it in 2023. Skryne needed a late goal against Ballinabrackey in the quarter final while Ballinabrackey had a 50m free after the hooter to win it only for it to hit the upright. Ratoath had 22 wides but came through AET against Donaghmore/Ashbourne. Both Dunshaughlin and Summerhill only scraped through the group stages but both made the most of their reprieves by beating Wolfe Tones and Trim respectively.

In Intermediate, O'Mahonys must beat Curraha (who themselves were only relegated from senior last year) to avoid relegation to the Junior championship. As if more evidence was needed of their fall over the last 10-15 years, their second team reached the Junior final as recently as 2011. Curraha's quick drop can probably be explained by the fact they've a very small pick of players and have lost a number to travelling this season. Rumours that some of their big hitters may be back but that remains to be seen.

In the hurling, reigning champions Ratoath play Trim in a repeat of last year's final. Kiltale play Kilmessan in the other semi final.

Clare championship amazingly open with so many different winners. Compared to waterford and galway with one club dominating.

All Ireland Club Hurling semi finals penciled in for the weekend before Christmas

Back to the Munster vs Leinster semi final while Galway champions get the so called 'easier draw'

our football championship is starting to get predictable , the hurling is unreal but i often wonder is it the same standard as kilkenny or limerick or tipp , very rarely a county champion from here rattles munster people put it down to the competitive championship , i have argued to the limerick lads that our focus on player development has been on development squads from u14 upwards , which means a club like clooney/quin or feakle can spring up over night if they have quality players from the under age developmet set up if that makes sense

Reigning Meath champions, Dunshaughlin, knocked out by Summerhill. Dunshaughlin only scored once in the last 25+ minutes of normal time after going 6 up and Eoghan Frayne scored a two-point free to equalise after the hooter. Summerhill got the job done in extra time. Summerhill will play Ratoath in the final. Ratoath surprisingly easily beat favourites Skryne on Saturday, 22 points to 11. This will be the 4th time Ratoath and Summerhill have faced each other in the senior final in the past 7 years.

Going for 4 in a row defending champions and 2024 Leinster Finalists St Mary's Ardee out of Louth at the 1/4 final stage

Lost 2-17 to 1-13 Newtown Blues (who won 3 in a row themselves 2018-2020)

Blues have 5 Louth players and 2 U20s. Will fancy a run at Leinster if they come out of Louth

No Portlaoise in the Laois championship. Am I right in thinking that's unusual or am I getting mixed up with football ?

They would have been a big dual club back in the 80s and 90s as far as I know, but have primarily had success in football in more recent years, won loads of football titles and I think got to an all ireland.

In the relegation final in Hurling this weekend.

Limerick hurling semis go to form and set up a repeat of last years final between Doon and Na Piarsaigh.

Eire Og won the Clare hurling final

Going for the double in the football final next weekend.

Midleton and Sarsfields through to the final in Cork

Cracker of a weekend in the Galway hurling championship. Semi finals are:

    Craughwell vs St. Thomas'

    Turloughmore vs Loughrea

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭C4000

Seemed like some epic games there, 3 of the 4 won by last minute scores?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭Nugget89

It was fairly nuts alright. Craughwell vs Sarsfields went to extra time, Sarsfields scored a goal after 81 minutes to go ahead and Craughwell scored a goal a minute later to win it. St. Thomas' scored a goal 5 minutes into injury time to beat Tommy Larkins. Loughrea came from 7 down against Clarinbridge to win it with a score 3 minutes into injury time, and that was the only time they were in the lead for the whole game. Even in the other game, Turloughmore were losing by a point to Oranmore/Maree with about 10 minutes to go. A flurry of goals at the end made that look far more comfortable than it was.

Ratoath still on for the first senior football and hurling double in Meath for 40 years. Semi final against Trim was nip and tuck for most of the game but Ratoath hit 4-4 in the last 15 minutes to end up winning by 11.

They face Kiltale in the final after they easily beat Kilmessan by 13 in the other semi final.

Ratoath had the chance of the double in 2020 but lost the hurling final (played in early 2021 because of Covid) by a point after extra time. They're slight underdogs in the football final but will likely be massive favourites in the hurling as they beat Kiltale in the first game of the season by 10 points having had a man sent off in the first half.

Loughrea, St Thomas both 11/8, Turlough' 4/1, Craughwell 9/1 with PPs.

Turlough' really good value there IMO. At least as good as Loughrea and have a lot of players in good form at present.

The scoreline looked bad in the end but it was close for about 2/3rds of the game.

Galway really do underperform on the intercounty stage when you consider the strength of hurling at all levels in the county. The club championship is up there with the best, under age, colleges, all very strong with loads of competition and variety of teams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭MfMan

The Senior championship has been particularly open and competitive this year; all 4 remaining clubs will fancy their chances, and the 3 who lost at the weekend to late scores will be ruing their defeats. The CB are rejigging the structure of the championship for next year, so the no-mans land that was Senior B (with 8 clubs) will be (Premier) Intermediate next year, meaning that division will also be very cut-throat in 2026.

Noticed Donegal Senior Hurling Champions Setanta are now in the Ulster Senior championship

Any reason for there inclusion ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭Nugget89

Craughwell at 9/1 seems a bit much considering they beat Loughrea a few weeks back. I thought the 4 teams would be tighter. I'm not a gambler so my money will be staying in my wallet, it's too hard to call.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭Nugget89

Plenty of talent in the county alright. Piecing it together has always seemed to be the problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,360 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Take one all time Limerick team out of the mix and that's essentially the story of every team outside the big three.

Always seems to be one of them just slightly better any time you get a good team going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭C4000

They won the Ulster intermediate championship a couple of years ago so can't re enter that. If a different team had won the Donegal championship they could have played in the Ulster intermediate.

I see there's a random Leinster Special club Junior championship this season with only a European team, the Meath and Wicklow Intermediate hurling winners and the Longford senior hurling champions. Not exactly sure what the reasoning behind this change was. The Wicklow champions from last year made the Leinster Junior semi final (beating the Meath and Laois champions before losing to the Kilkenny champions) while Meath have had Leinster Junior finalists in the last 10 years (albeit our recent representatives haven't exactly covered themselves in glory).
