Hurling is very much number 1 in the club, most of the 15 today are either subs on hurling or play on the 2nd team in hurling.

Looks like Ballygunner mean business today, 11 points up after 15 min

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 141 ✭✭crackity_jones

And another day when the referee has decided the black card rule isn't going to be enforced. The Ballygunner keeper hauling down the forward with a goal on is about as clearcut as it gets.

Absolutely sublime first half from Ballygunner. Bit of a slip to let Sars back in and thry should have had s penalty and black card. But the first 25mins from Ballygunner was about as good as you'll ever see.

Sars goal after halftime threatened a comeback but Ballygunner replied straight away. Result never in doubt afterwards

Havin watched Ballyboden in the flesh today, it'll take a serious outfit or performance to beat them in Leinster.

They have some power across the field, and McGarry and Basquel are dynamite up front when on song. The former was their one bright light in the first half when Castletown were compact and well in the game at HT, and the latter really oozed class after the break when they started to strangle the middle and dominate.

Very gracious fans after the game too, and travelled in some numbers.

And they still won't win the All Ireland or will find a way to bottle it im sure.

Things are pointing towards Ballyboden winning in Leinster. But there is still a lot of football to be played. Paddy Power also makes Ballyboden favourites to win the AI competition.

Is it the only provonce where it's possible to do an intermediate or junior "in a row".

In most places you can't because you would be promoted.

Not sure why they don't move up.

They're a decent team, they wouldn't beat a Galway team but they'd be competitive.

Naas won an intermediate title a few years back and were competitive against Ballyhale the following year.

They played Monaleen in the all ireland intermediate final a couple of years ago and it was a brilliant match, only a couple of points in it.

Monaleen are up to the top 6 group in Limerick now so youd assume Tooreen would be capable of challenging some pretty decent teams.…

In the Leinster Intermediate club hurling championship it's possible for teams from Meath and Wicklow to do two in a row unless they win the All Ireland first time around. Bray Emmetts won the Leinster Intermediate championship in 2022 but we're beaten in the 2023 Leinster final. The Meath and Wicklow senior champions will only go up to the Leinster senior championship if they win the All Ireland Intermediate championship (like Naas, MLR of Carlow and Clonkill of Westmeath did previously). Unfortunately, more often than not, the Kilkenny champions are just in a league of their own at intermediate.

If there's a restructure in a county championship it can happen too, Ballygiblin of Cork won Munster Junior in 2021&22.

If tooreen win the all ireland you'd imagine they might go up. That all Ireland against monaleen a few years ago was a brilliant game

With an ulster team to come in the all ireland semi they should make the final again

Might mean a Connacht senior final vs Galway champions if so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,042 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Would really upset Galway and their dragged out championship.

Wrt Tooreen, they're a good outfit, but there's something thay should be noted. They, or whoever would win the Roscommon SHC, would play the Galway intermediate champions (which, currently, would be the 25th best team in Galway).

Owing to a restructuring of the Galway SHC next year, Toureen (or whoever) will be playing the 17th beat team in Galway as there's a number of currwnt senior teams that are being reclassified as "Premier Intermediate".

I'm not saying that Toureen aren't a good team, btw, but it'll be interesting to see how they (amd others) will fare when they're playing (slightly) better opposition in the next few years. They may well still win, but it's just something to note.

Dingle 2-12 Mungret St. Pauls 0-01

Mungrets thankfully have got on the board. Tom Lloyd has knocked over a free for the Limerick side. 46 mins gone. (Irish Mirror).

Doesn't the Galway hurling championship trundle along at its own pace while all the other hurling counties are time constrained by their provincial championships.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭Nugget89

The Galway championship finished on the 1st of November. They wouldn't have any timing issues with fitting in a Connacht final.

Good game on tg4 today before Dublin Joe stepped in and called it off , that's a fine newbridge side they have the wealth of talent in oisin Doherty the mcgrogans the two young brothers and young Patrick McMullen, Derry have some serious footballers coming through most of them seem to be from the banks of Lough neagh.

I don't think they will trouble kilcoo this year I think scotstown have a better chance of achieving that but they will win an Ulster in time if they keep the band together

After the success for Amsterdam, could Barcelona do it in the football? They are in the Leinster Junior semi final against Grangenolvin from Kildare. The other semi is St Brigids Killashee, Longford against the exotically named Fighting Cocks, Carlow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,042 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

BrIgids will be well able to handle the Cocks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,945 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Grangenolvin are a serious outfit at junior level. We never got going and tbh, 17 points was in no way generous to them. From watching their previous games, we thought we might be able to impose ourselves physically but it was the exact opposite. They monstered us. We shot ourselves in the foot plenty but it hardly mattered.

That's that for another year. Back to the drawing board. Delighted with the win in Mullingar two weeks ago but the shell shock from yesterday will last a while.

How was that Moycullen goal not a square ball? Don't follow the rule on that any more…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,299 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

On the flipside - How were Moycullen not given a free and the Brigid’s player a yellow card a couple of mins later
