So I am going to renovate a shed, just for an office/playroom for the kids. Have power running to shed etc

I am looking at wall insulation and original plan was insulated plasterboard is but price is too high

I am just wondering would the below provide a decent insulation level? just for walls. For attic I am doing other insulation

Any way to work out what width PIR would be for this? is other question

Quick answer is: forget about that foil in terms of insulative properties.

If the foil faced finish is acceptable in your use-case then have a think about wall-mounting floor insulation instead (example 25mm here):

Seal it all with foil tape and don't forget to design in a ventilation system at least (otherwise you'll cause condensation at the outside wall).

That’s products have been around for years, from multiple suppliers, and none have been able to produce any testing or real word results.

They may be a benefit for radiant heat, or limiting heat across a cavity. But not for heat conducted out through a wall.

My concern would be, if you leave it as just insulation on the walls, the kids will start poking hole in it. I know I would of as a kid.

I did similar with my shed a few months ago, but I stuck OSB over it.

It won't be an cheaper than plasterboard, but I didn't have to skim the plasterboard after and I can stick stuff on the walls.

It was working out cheaper than buying insulated plasterboard

Are you talking about just putting on the insulation as above and leaving that as a finish? would wallpaper even stick to them?

Oh I wasn't sure what finish you were thinking of with the foil. You could stick plasterboard to them. You can use adhesive foam but you would also need to have mechanical anchoring too in case the foam fails in the hot shed. Mechanical anchoring is going to be a problem as you would then need a wooden backing rail to screw into…

How had you planned on supporting the insulated plasterboard in the first instance?

Internally in the shed the walls have plyboard on it

So insulation onto the ply

Then plasterboard onto the insulation

Just wondering will that foil provide any insulation to stop heat loss? I can buy 10 rolls of it and run it around the shed, then put wool into the attic space

I have to agree with 10-10-20 here about floor insulation as a prerequisite.

It's probably only 25 or 30mm. It's only a shed. I use a treadmill and bicycle out there so I do like to have it cool enough. It has made a big difference though. I don't think just the foil will do much on it's own. Half of it's value probably comes from reflecting IR, so if you cover it, that much is lost.
