Xhaka is not prime Zidane. He is playing for Sunderland. United do not have to go out thinking nullify a Xhaka. You follow Man United not Burnley

We have Cas,Bruno and Kobo all world class elite footballers playing for the best club in the world.

I wonder will Dalot hold onto his spot if he is the best throw in taker? Its becoming popular and while hes no Delap it was one of his throw ins that directly lead to Sesko's goal, and I think led to Ballards introduction to try and challenge Sesko directly.

Remember when we all used to laugh at Stoke! Now you have the top tier teams holding long throw contests! Funny how things change

i never laughed at Stoke (ok i might've laughed at the blind panic Delap would cause but never at the perfectly valid tactic). I always found the snobbery and prioritising of possession over getting the fùckin ball into the danger area bizzare.

You're right, managers should ignore what makes an opponent tick and completely disregard any threat they have and focus purely on the vibes of the "world class elite footballers" you named.

Pretty sure our tactics yesterday involved long ball to Sesko and Mbuemo to stay close to him for flick ons and knock downs, quite often in a 442 shape especially out of possession and in transition for those who like to focus on the rigid 343 that we seemingly never change from.

Sunderland got it wrong at the start and changed at 2-0 down going more man for man which did make them more competitive but the damage was done.

Wonder how many would agree with your view of them being world class elite players actually 🤔

would absolutely be painted as Liverpool falling apart and beating themselves rather than United realizing their potential and executing the system.

Completely agree but as a realist myself - that ain’t going to happen.

It’ll be an extremely welcomed surprise even if we draw.

Going to throw my two cents worth into this..

I’ve advocated for Amorim for a long time and the EL final put the first dent into that (The Grimsby game, I think he severely underestimated that match and his team selection let him down) and the recent City game and especially the performance vs Brentford added more dents which have left me feeling this won’t work. It wouldn’t have surprised me if they had let go of him before Sunderland. They didn’t.. so we carry on and see what happens. I’m not annoyed that he is still there but at the same time I think I will be, if they do it after the next 4 games if the results are very poor.

Anyway I’m replying because I think the reality is somewhere in between people saying there was no progress yesterday and this idea that beating Sunderland should be seen as a big win.

Yes they beat Brentford, who beat us. But they lost to Burnley, who we beat. I think Sunderland have done very well and it was definitely a surprise but for the most part it’s been a very generous first set of fixtures. Villa hadn’t scored a goal before they played them, at home to Potter’s West Ham, away to Ange who is struggling at Forest. The Crystal Palace result was probably the most impressive. Man United away is no longer a no-hoper, in fact it’s a great opportunity for teams these days. Home to Wolves is another game they could win. After that things will be tougher for them and we will learn more about whether or not they can be considered a potentially established PL side or not. That might sound harsh but I think it’s the case.

So yes, there is context to say it’s progress (the first half anyway, less so the second) but I don’t think you can look at our squad of players and say ‘it would be great to beat Sunderland at home’ just because we lost the weekend before. There isn’t much point talking about where they are in the table after 7 games either. For me it was a game we should win comfortably, and we did. It didn’t make me think for a second ‘maybe people are wrong about Amorim.’ He will need to do a lot more than yesterday and do it consistently. I am no longer going to be questioning those who don’t think he will.

Next 3 games will show where we are.

If we get convincingly beated by the scousers he should be sacked that night. If we get a draw or at least a very good performance then it buys him time. But if he can't get 6 points from Brighton and Forest we'll that should be that.

Klopp brought in Thomas Gronnemark as a throw in coach around 2019/2020 because Liverpool were losing so much possession from them. Trent and Robertson excelled at it. It's those fine margins that are the difference between champions and nowhere.

Sesko now beginning to have an influence. 2 goals in last 2 games plus the very important flick on against chelsea.

He seems a handful for defenders. If we can service him he'll score and create.

I have read through the thread since the game yesterday and can't say I've seen much of the "disappointment in playing well" that you describe.

I think you wanted to see that because you wanted to go with your 'morally superior fan' angle regardless of what was in the thread.

Yes there are some who want Amorim out before yesterday and they still don't think he's good enough. That doesn't mean they were down at Old Trafford yesterday giving him abuse, or not celebrating the goals wherever they were.

I think it's possible to support the club and think the manager is not good enough at the same time. I get your point that genuine supporters are not going to hope for a loss, but again I didn't see that in this thread.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

I don't think it's disappointment with the result more so we have been here before so excitement isn't really there that this is any kind of turning point.

I'm glad we won yesterday but issues I had a week, 2 weeks ago, 3 weeks ago are still visible on the pitch.
Chief among them is playing our best player out of position in a role that means he is far less effective in game and our midfield is easier to overrun.

I am delighted that Lammens played and had a good debut.
    I am delighted Sesko scored.
I am delighted that Mount had a good game.

Our keeper looked far more comfortable and our attack especially down the right was linking up well.

Does any of that fill me with much confidence going forward? Not really unfortunately.

The team is capable of winning games, but it has struggled with week to week consistency for a long time now. I don't know what I am meant to take away from yesterday to say that will improve?

You can support the team and still question what you are watching before your eyes especially when the issues are repeating over a long time.

I'll give any manager my support once I can see something that I can get behind!!
I supported ETH for a long time after others didn't because he got the team to 3rd and won 2 trophies in his first 2 seasons.

I just can't find with Ruben what I am meant to hang my hat on..

I'm Amorim out, posted throughout the game happily! Praised his tactics after, have to say other than Bucketys sarcasm I haven't seen anything either.

Sancho missing from the last two games due to “illness”. What was going through the minds of those at Villa when agreeing to pay him for a season.

Who could have possibly forseen this coming?! I'm sure it has nothing to do with EAFC 26 being released

It's generous to blame fifa on his career. He'll retire next summer when no offers come his way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,173 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Nah the sad part is hes not going to be short of offers next summer. There's going to be dozens of clubs in Europe and beyond that believe they'll be able to get a tune out of him, just not for the wages he believes he's worth.

Would not feel too much sorry for Villa. With bit luck they might take him off us. Miracles do happen

He's out of contract next Summer. They only have to keep him for the season and we never have to look at his useless mug ever again.

those long limbs were given me flashbacks of fellani, also a player who was difficult to play against

Sancho will end up like Martial who is now, at 29, playing in Mexico.

In other news, I see raz scored again today.

    Lol

Sheer relief to have a keeper not make a blunder in a game.
