Or himself. There's footage of him last month of not being able to do a single pull up.

The dog on the street knows Trump is a dictator, and the military either don't have the mental capacity to differentiate or don't care and hide behind their "duty".

    It's a load of b0llox.

    https://www.newsweek.com/pete-hegseth-war-generals-trump-10804089

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told a rare meeting of the most senior military leadership in the U.S. that they must "prepare for war".

"From this moment forward, the only mission of the newly restored Department of War is this: Warfighting," Hegseth said in his speech at Marine Corps Base Quantico, referring to the name now used by the Trump administration for the Department of Defense.

"Preparing for war and preparing to win. Unrelenting and uncompromising in that pursuit. Not because we want war. No one here wants war. But it's because we love peace."

In the same speech, Hegseth told senior military leaders that he no longer wants to see “fat generals and admirals” or overweight troops in combat units.

“Today at my direction, every member of the joint force, at every rank, is required … [to] meet height and weight requirements twice a year every year,” Hegseth added.

He added that the U.S. military will mandate troops in combat roles to meet “this highest male standard only,” requiring every service member in such positions to score above 70 percent on the “male standard” of their branch’s physical fitness test.

Hegseth also railed against what he described as "woke" in his department.

"No more identity months, DEI offices, dudes in dresses, no more climate change worship, no more division, distraction or gender delusion, no more debris. I've said before and will say again, we are done with that s***," the Secretary of Defense said.

Quite honestly amazing coverage of the meeting. Just shaking my head in disbelief at whats being said. This is only year 1 of the presidency, heaven knows what the next three years are going to bring.

That's grand until those orders are in direct opposition to the Constitution. Then what?

Failed junior office lectures senior leadership on a warrior ethos. Shame somebody didn't stand up and ask him why he didn't get a Ranger tab. Somewhere there's a retired senior NCO laughing into his beer at this clown.

Trump say they face an invasion from within.

I would say the Invasion has already taken place and MAGA has full control of the country now.

Authorised by the president to use 'Full force'

Which isn't 'the right amount of force', nor even, excessive force, but Full force.

Should the service members disregard these instructions?

So the big mission for the armed forces is to be used against their own people. That one sentence says it all.

As he says, "execute lawful orders."

Orders known to be unlawful will be neither transmitted or carried out. There has been no indication, zero, zilch, that the military has changed from this position.

Sortof. "No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement. Just common sense, maximum lethality and authority for war fighters" is the direct quote.

    From Yahoo News…

Pentagon federalizes 200 Oregon National Guardsmen and orders them to Portland.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered 200 Oregon National Guardsmen to be placed under federal command for operations in the state. The seizure of the troops came two days after President Donald Trump said he was sending the military to Portland, which he accused of being “war ravaged.”

A Sept. 28 memo, signed by Hegseth and directed to the adjutant general of the Oregon National Guard via Gov. Tina Kotek, called for federalizing 200 members of the Oregon National Guard under Title 10 of the U.S. Code. They are being called into federal service to “protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other U.S. Government personnel who are performing Federal functions,” the memo notes. The order outlines a mobilization of 60 days.

The Pentagon did not immediately have information on Trump’s order on Friday, and a spokesperson for the Department of Defense would not confirm the authenticity of the memo on Sunday. However, Gov. Tina Kotek’s office did. In a statement, Kotek said that she had spoken with Trump on Saturday and said there was no insurrection in the city to justify such a response. “Putting our own military on our streets is an abuse of power and a disservice to our communities and our service members,” she said.

On Monday, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed the order and said that the federalized Oregon Guard soldiers will be “under the command and control of the Commander of U.S. Northern Command.”

There has been no widespread unrest in Portland. The ICE facility in the city has seen small but ongoing protests for months. Oregon's mayors condemn Trumps move while Portland's mayor confirms it's Sanctuary City identity. I assume with it's sanctuary city identity, the city is using tents alongside buildings to house the homeless.

With the court action the city has taken against Trumps Title 10 activation of Oregon's N/G, and to revoke the permit ICE has for land use, issuing ICE with a land use Violation Notice, differences are breaking out full time against use of the N/G to support ICE by way of it securing the ICE facility buildings.

These are Oregon state citizens being called up by Trump for use in Oregon's state capital.

    Just Following Orders!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,418 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Since POTUS has been given 100% immunity on any presidential act, then doesn't anything he calls for automatically fall under 'lawful orders'?

And are generals really going to start taking POTUS to court over certain orders? Bearing in mind that he walked into the room today and told them not to laugh, and that if they didn't like what he said, they should leave, but also that it is the end of their rank and their earnings. Sounds like a threat to me.

His basic premise was that the rules of engagement are 'too woke'. I wish I was joking:

“We untie the hands of our war fighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement. Just common sense, maximum lethality and authority for war fighters.”

Never forget that for all the corruption and performative cruelty, these people are also frequently murderous psychopaths - as seen by the fact they're blasting boats out of the water without any semblence of due process, and celebrating the fact.

Meanwhile, if you want to see how the 'liberal' institutions are holding power to account? The New York Times suggests that "some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians", which may be the most pitiful and farcially understated example of both-sidesism 'objective reporting' I've seen in a minute.

Remember the times when all the 2A supporters said they needed their guns to protect the population from the government? Now MAGA backs the army. That as.hole Cal Thomas has justified it on Today FM by saying Trump is justified on focusing on Democratic cities because they are soft on crime

    1. No. Immunity does not bootstrap instructions to legality. I'm pretty sure we've been over this before.
    2. No, that's not how it works. There are two ways (at least that I know of, there may be others) an order is going to be subject to judicial review. The first is the civilian court system, with petitions from civilian entities or persons with standing. This is the route being taken by California and Oregon. Both are in the 9th Circuit, and at least the California case is due to be heard by them soon. It's not directly applicable to Oregon, but should be instructive (assuming that the 9th doesn't decide to combine them, which it could). The other is through the military court system, which would be triggered under court martial conditions for failure to carry out an order. At that point, the lawfulness of the order is ruled upon by a military judge.

Imagine spending decades in the military, rising up the ranks to admiral or general then out of nowhere you're answerable to some meathead off Fox News

And ideally lop his own head off with it.

This talk from Trump of deploying the core military (NOT the National Guard) to a list of Democrat stronghold cities, and to utilise them as training grounds for the personnel, is undisguised, unabashed fascist intent.

He is engaged in a personal war of vengeance against former officials, Democrat and Republican politicians alike who have crossed him, and cities and states where he is unpopular and resisted.

He is quacking like the fascist duck. If his own party don't come together with the Dems, the Courts and the tools of the Constitution to stop him, well America is finished in its current form, and may God have mercy on all their souls.

It must be fairly demoralizing though, to understand what true moral character is, through duty and example and discipline and then to see the chain of command above you, dictating things like appearance and making ignorant narcissistic proclamations when you know he and his boss wouldn't know true character from nought. Depressing would be an understatement.

I'm pretty sure the guy hasn't the intelligence to tell the difference between adolescent male bravado and leadership.
