Rory was amazing yesterday. It was gripping stuff. That eagle to force the playoff was something we will never forget. He is a class act.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

The hilarious thing is that all the "Rory haters" are very quiet, they were just waiting for him to miss that eagle putt and like mushrooms after rain to pick up their favourite megaphone of hate.

Ah they'll be back around soon enough. He always loses more than he wins, so it's enough to keep them stimulated.

The fact that he's one of the best of all time seems to wash over their heads entirely. A career win rate north of 10% is insane - 45 professional wins. But he was a complete bottler, apparently.

Haven't heard this one in a long time alright.

Enjoyed the look back at Rorys first Irish Open in 2005, and seeing who the caddy was.

What an unreal talent and a man that transcends the sport. Love him or hate him, when hes gone golf will.be FAR worse off.

    Up Rory.

In the interest of openness, transparency and full disclosure - I was one of those for a very long time, in particular after he lost the US Open to DeChambeau!

But I'm delighted they both put me back in my box, proved me and everybody else who thought that wrong.

Eh no he's not even close…Tiger is actually bigger than the game of golf...like way bigger…Muhammad Ali stuff.

He's probably the most famous Sportsperson there ever was.

Put a silhouette of the biggest name in golf with arguably the nicest swing on the front.

    You got it boss!

I'm not superstitious but that's about as good of an omen as you could wish for.

There's some poor divil who doesn't have a clue about golf in Ralph Lauren that's probably lost their job.

Why is Rory so ropey at the par 5s ( last week excepted) . His scores at the last 6 par 5s he's played are

5-6-6-5-5-7. Statistically the're among the easiest holes -he should be creaming them . I can't figure it out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,413 ✭✭✭✭prawnsambo

Certainly on the last one, he was going for the green in two. And that's probably his thinking for most of them. But if his driving's off by even a little bit, he can run into trouble and par becomes the best result.

Great finish, bad 2nd on 16 but he was really trying to get to -15 so understand the aggressive approach.

In good form for the Ryder Cup.

Yes, good form thankfully. Way more worried about Lowry to be honest, I just hope the fire he always shows for the RC brings out the best in him.

Does anyone else think Rory has a big life change planned?

I don't know of it's retirement at 40 or take the easy way out and join Liv or something else entirely but the fact that he is moving to Wentworth just has me wondering.

I imagine if he takes the Liv route he will get a billion dollars considering Jon Rahm got somewhere in the region of 300 mill and he didn't exactly move the needle.

Rory also got sold down the river by his "pal" Jay Monaghan in the whole Liv vs Pga battle.

I'd say that he may have a slight relocation & life change plan in fruition by building a second home in London, for sure, but I'd sincerely doubt it will involve a move to LIV tbh…

He was adamantly against it, actively fought really hard against it in both private & public fora, and probably doesn't need the money tbh. Besides LIV appears to be dead in the water, from where I'm standing, though i must admit I've never watched it & probably never will.

P.s. besides the money, which granted was/is massive, I wonder how 'happy' the guys who moved to LIV really are. They must look on at the majors, the Ryder Cup (for those not on captain's picks), and the US & European tours, as well as themselves & their families living there rather than here, with a huge degree of envy imho....

P.s. And that's before even talking about things like their legacies, standing in the game, & future in Europe & the US.

I'd love if he just decided to up sticks and play fully on dp world tour. He doesn't need the money, but his presence alone with bring up the whole thing. And sponsors would flee the PGA Tour without its biggest name ever playing. Majors aren't gonna leave out a current grand slam winner, so who cares where the butchered ogwr leaves him.

Rory is close to being a billionaire lad. LIV is irrelevant to him.

Always thought Rors will retire very early a la Borg, can't see him being motivated to play the DP events, I'd say the Majors, Ryder Cup and then even big PGA events will mean very little to him, he'll tour the world for a few years and retire into early 40s. Maybe take a few years out and if he wants to, can play the Champs tour for the craic

I would say Rory is completely burnt out. I would think once he got over the line at Augusta he was just "ah, maybe its time for a life change, focus on family and my daughter. I've done it all".

I don't see him going to LIV, I think the lads on LIV are more likely to come back to the PGA tour now that they realise what an absolute load of BS the whole thing is.

He has more money than he will ever need. He might want to be closer to his ageing parents. He doesn't need the stress and BS that he has dealt with since he first arrived on the scene.

He's in the history books with the grand slam, won a Ryder Cup on US soil. I think this could be the beginning of the end.

I'd imagine the move to Wentworth could be about being closer to home, etc. Especially to spend time with his parents. And being an only child he probably feels that responsibility is important. Regardless of your wealth or celebrity status family is family at the end of it all.

Ahh I'd say he'll go hard at it to up his major tally over the next decade or so but I can definitely see him playing a lighter schedule that's purely just where he wants to play and to hell with whatever obligations the PGAT try to put on him. Perfectly understandable as he heads towards 40 with a family.

Love to see him get close to double figures for the majors, or at the very least get ahead of Mickelson and Faldo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,580 ✭✭✭daithi7

Me too, it's obviously a lesser goal for him but I'd like to see him march past Michelson & Faldo's number of major victories, and so become the leading European Major winner of all time. Now that is some goal to be striving for. Go Rory!!

Yeah I would love to see him play on the DP World Tour full time.

It would definitely be a start to bring back the prestige, I can remember back in the mid 90's when it was an equal to the Pga Tour and dare I say it had a better roster of stars.

He has a lifetime exemption to the Masters now and I think he can play The Open until he is sixty but I'm not sure what way he is with the US Open or Pga.

Would love to see him get 8 majors anyway- his talent really should have him double figures but that's golf- it's extremely rarified air to get double figures ( 3 people)and even eight is a big stretch with very few having done so(6 people).

But at least he is one of only 6 to get a grand slam although I think that will change within two years with the way Scottie is playing.

He laid out his remaining career goals in January as being win the Masters, an away Ryder Cup win, and an Olympic medal.

Still 3 years to go before he can close out the final piece of that, so whilst I expect he'll be choosier about when and where he plays, don't expect to see any move towards semi-retirement before LA2028

Rory will keep playing because he loves competition. He’s quite young, fit n healthy and playing quality golf.
