I agree. For instance this year they had Lando Norris, who is the World Formula 1 Champion, who could have easily won this award. (He was 2nd). Or maybe a member of the highly successful women's English Rugby team (The Roses), she was 3rd, or their very successful soccer team (The Lionnesses), or Luke Littler, the 2025 World darts champion, which seems to be massively popular these days.

Delighted for Rory though, this award is well deserved imho. This season alone he has become only the 6th lifetime Career Grand Slam winner in golf, (winning all four majors at least once), along with true greats such as Bobby Jones, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. He is the 2025 Master's champion, the leading ranked European Ryder Cup team member, winning brilliantly away from home in the US, the Irish Open winner , and topping it all off by winning the 2025 European Order of Merit by winning the race to Dubai, & BBC Sports Personality of the Year, to round it all off!

What a year - simply wonderful!!

F1 featuring alongside actual athletes is a joke. "And the winner for the fastest car race is.…the guy in the fastest car". They may be fit and talented people, but the deciding factor is money and engineering. Oh, and pitstops. Like, seriously?

What's your take on horse racing and jockeys out of interest?

Very few pitstops and engineering involved! In the last 15 years, three manufacturers have shared the constructors championships. It's all money.

Even compare rally driving to F1, to me it looks infinitely more demanding on the driver (and co pilot) in so many ways.

To your question, there are much more variables in horse racing, the form of the horse, the ground conditions. And both the jockey and horse are living things competing.

But it's still not my thing. Put if this way, and a bit of a spurious argument, but if I had to pick one of the jockey or the horse for an award, I know which one I'd be picking.

I feel we might be getting a bit off topic here!!

A 66 to start the season in Dubai.

I see he's switched out the blades which is interesting, doesn't seem to have affected his game.
