    Mine arrived on Sunday, haven't had the chance to set it up yet. However it did come with an EU plug. I got on to Amazon.ie support and they sent a 10% refund.

    Has anyone picked up any of the new 'budget' Hue Essential Bulbs?

    They are basically cheaper versions of the premium bulbs, and supposedly not as good in terms of colour range…

    They really do look like fantastic value, and now especially with the Bridge Pro now able to handle 150+ bulbs!!

    Can't beat 4x colour E27 bulbs for 17.50 each… or 4x GU10's for less than 15 each!!

    When you open the chat box, eventually there is a route that gives you the option to chat with a human.. I just did it & he told me to buy an adaptor and they would refund me the cost of it…

    Not ideal as the place it's plugged in is a bit tight on space.. but seeing as it's Wi-Fi now an no longer needs to be next to the router, I might consider moving it somewhere out of the way!!

    Eventually when I can get a U.K. plug version of the Bridge Pro I'll get that and swap out the interchangeable UK/EU adaptor on my current Bridge Pro and bring the 2nd Bridge Pro over to our holiday home..

    Hi looking to automate some lighting in the house. Whats the best way to get going to build an ecosystem around ? Is Philips hue still the best option ?

    I would say so, I've been using them for 12+ years

    They've just released a more budget friendly line of bulbs called Hue Essential.

    There is also a new bridge out (Bridge Pro) and it brings some very good new features.

    can the new bridge replace two existing bridges? i have an indoor and outdoor bridge at the moment

    yes, it can handle 150+ lights, and can also be set to connect to your router via WiFi so it can be placed anywhere…

    I’ve 11 lights in my back garden, and I’ve the area set up as a ‘motion zone’ so anytime I go out the back now, at certain times, certain lights will light up brighter for 5 minutes before returning to their previous state…

    i think you cant (yet) migrate two hubs to the new one though, ill wait until they add that.

    yeah, but I believe they are working on that…

    The current workaround would be to transfer the current hub with the most lights/scenes/automations to the Bridge Pro, and then manually add everything from the 2nd hub again from scratch (which I know could be a pain depending on how full it is)

    I’ve got 5x Lily Spots across the back wall shining up at the wall panels behind them. On the left in the small flower bed there are 2x 2m outdoor light strips, and in the flower beds to the right there are 2x Calla pedestal lights. Every light here is set at a different colour so as to differentiate them. I’ve a single 100W PSU running all 9 lights which are all Hue low voltage 12v

    Here is the side with the 2 light strips just ticked in behind the edge;

    And heres the opposite side with the 2 Calla pedestals;

    IMG_7296.jpeg

    On that photo it’s noticeable that the 2 spots on the left are a slightly different colour to the other spots even though they are all on the same setting!!

    I originally bought a Lily kit plus 2x extensions (so 5 lights in total) back in 2018, They were in use for about a year, but then only came out at Halloween every year…. and about 2 years ago I discovered the PSU no longer worked, so after a bit of back and forth with Philips where they couldn’t send me a replacement PSU, but had to send me a whole new kit including 3 new lights (and I had to send 3 old lights back). Anyway now that the lights are all in and all shining on a similar surface I noticed 2 are slightly off colour compared to everything else… I have 2 new ones to change them out and the older/discoloured ones will revert to annual Halloween lights!!

    Not in view is a new Hue colour floodlight I installed on Sunday, and an old white only ‘Lux’ bulb around in the side lane way which are both regular 230v lights.

    Lovely setup...where should I start as don't want to go all in...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,140 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

    start off with a starter kit (bridge + 3 bulbs)

    Pick a room and go from there. A living room is ideal as you can set mood lighting for watching movies etc….

    I started off with a 3 bulb starter kit in 2013 and now have a house full of them (60+ bulbs)(the only lights that aren’t Hue are the light in the oven, and the 2 spots in the extractor fan above the hob!!) Likewise in our holiday home in Lithuania… all Hue… even my mothers house has about 20-25 of my old bulbs… they are great for automating lights that come on/off every day at set times…

    Anyone have a good set up for Halloween, I have approx 20 bulbs outside on driveway that are just the white bulbs and I have four coloured on a walk way to the front door.

    I have a hue Halloween app for the last few years but it seems to be gone off the app store, it's really good with the coloured bulbs but doesn't seem to work with the white bulbs unfortunately. Going putting a smart speaker outside and it plays scary noises and the hue colour bulbs react with the music it's really good. Wish I could get the white bulbs in on the action.

    The native Hue app had very good effects now, and you can adjust the speeds also so for the white bulbs, I'd set them all on candle mode and have them all at the fastest speed.

    I've the Halloween app about 8-9 years now but it won't work with the new Bridge Pro and I'd be fecked if I'm swapping back to the old one for 1 night!!
