My experience with the Ikea stuff so far is that it always required a firmware upgrade before I could connect it to a different hub.

Only reason I got a (2nd hand) Ikea hub - just for an initial firmware update. Might have just been unlucky with bulbs etc though.

But as long as you see the zigbee logo on the packaging, you should be grand then.

I couldn't actually see these in IKEA today. Will have to keep an eye out the next time though.

My hue light strip stopped working. According to the app, it's still connected and working like normal. Has anyone experience of this and better still a fix?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,156 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

not ever experienced that… I've 2 light strip's in my kitchen at least 5-6 years now at this stage and they've never once acted up…

have you plugged out the power supply and left for a bit before plugging back in?

not had this one before, one bulb of 8 new candle bulbs in a fitting won’t connect to hue hub, flashes that it’s been found each time but doesn’t actually get found by the app. Fitting is near the hub and serial number which is my usual fix for this doesn’t work. Anyone have any other ideas? Online talk is about a special PC app that requires Java or just keep trying, but have done 30 searches now, various reboots of hub, app, light etc.

it was the number of lights, I passed 50ma long while back but obviously pushed my luck too far.

I've had Hue issues of my own lately…

Planned power cut in the holiday home in Lithuania on Monday last week, which is fine as we've had a few… so I set a reminder to turn off the lights once power was restored, but cannot connect to the bridge*, meaning a load of the lights have been on for over a week now… Usually before we leave I turn off most of the lights via their traditional switch, but last time we left in a bit of a hurry so left a few on……. Luckily we're heading over on Sunday so will be able to sort it out then…

*I think the issue is beyond just connecting to the bridge, as I did leave on a timer to turn everything off at midnight, and they've not gone off (I can see from cameras), so hopefully it's just a matter of resetting the bridge.

Then, last week in Ireland, anytime I tried to open the app and connect to my Irish bridge, I kept seeing a 'mandatory update required' message, so tried and failed multiple times to install it but it kept failing… was chatting to their support over the course of a few hours and eventually got it back up and running after trying many different suggestions… the last resort was a full reset of the bridge which means I'd lose everything (lights/rooms/routines/scenes etc…), and have to start all over again, so luckily it didn't get to that stage…

I’d a weird one when I was away that my holidays routine stopped working aamd all light stayed on and I couldn’t connect to the hub via hue app to turn off lights. I used google home and it worked ok, no idea how.

Just trying to re-set up a hue system that was packed away for about 2 years. It half worked as my Google home was still linked and controlled some bulbs, however I couldn't log into the hue app at all.

Went through a few options and nothing worked so I tried a factory reset, now I can find the bridge in the app, it has a mandatory update, but it keeps failing, any ideas how to get the update through?

Have a load of hue bulbs, plugs etc.

Notice one outside back door loses connection and stays on a good bit. Have to take off the cover take bulb out and put back in. Close to router so not losing internet connection and closes light to it works fine. Any ideas please

maybe try deleting the bulb and then adding/finding it again??

(make sure to note the serial number of the bulb before trying this in case it can't 'auto' find the bulb when you go to re-add it ,and you need to manually input the SN.

Just incase anyone comes across this issue.

Basically my bridge was not updated in years, the current version of the app couldn't do the update so I needed to get an older phone, install a previous version of the APK 4.49.1 (app version over 5 won't work) and update it from there, then the bridge update went through ok.

Unfortunately my troubleshooting involved a factory reset so I need to add all bulbs again:(

rumored update to hub is true, the lights acting as motion sensors is amazing. Will work for 90% of applications, not for me in garden or hall/landing where I need lights to come on early but could work for all other rooms.

Philips Hue Bridge Pro officially announced today, looking forward to this as was hitting the upper limits of what existing bridge can accomadate.

Any where it can be purchased yet? I'm only seeing it listed on the Hue UK web site, which won't accept an order to Ireland (and you'll be stung for customs).

I guess Amazon will have it soon enough…

be interesting to see how far back the bulb compatibility goes for the motion sensor feature!! my oldest bulbs must be 12 years old at this stage!!

I’ll be interested to see how well this works, it’s basically using the Zigbee signal between Hue bulbs to detect motion and turn on lights when people are present. Feels a bit space-age. The really interesting part is how the new “Motion Aware” feature of the Hue Bridge Pro works. According to The Verge, it uses the bulbs’ Zigbee radios with Sensify tech to detect motion between lights. I didnt realise zigbee radio waves could be used to measure that, interesting

I'm betting if you wait a few weeks you will see combo packs for the new bulbs and bridge. These packs usually meant the bride was free on the old bridge

I had 2 of these Calla outdoor lights delivered today to go with the 5 Lily spots I got about 7 years ago but only really used for a year before putting them away and only taking them out at Halloween!!

    IMG_7194.jpeg

Reason is we finally got round to having the back garden renovated, so it’s time to put the 5 Lily spots to permanent use again…

I’ve also ordered a 100w power supply as the original one I got with the Lily set only supports 40w so 5x 8w Lily spots…

I’d actually gotten a brand new Lily starter kit from Hue about 2 years ago as the original power supply unit that came in the kit I bought in 2018 just stopped working one day so after getting onto them on Facebook, they couldn’t send me a new PSU only so instead sent me a full new starter kit (though I had to sent back 3 spots)

My plan it to put the 5 Lily spots across the back of this raised flower bed at the rear, and the 2 Calla lights will go in same flower bed but on the right side….

    IMG_7192.jpeg

I’m still not sure what to do on the left in the little mini flower bed, if even to put any lights in it at all…. I think a light strip might be too much, so maybe an Aramat, but they are similar to the lightstrip… so I’ll see how the Calla looks and might just put a few of them in….

On the other hand I have loads of spare GU10 & E27 colour bulbs so if a one had any cool recommendations for outdoor lights I could put Hue bulbs into…

got a hue hdmi sync box cheap in Currys Blanchardstown on clearance for €99.97 yesterday, and there was one in Naas if anyone is interested - instore only and is store dependent

before i open box, does anyone have one and would you recommend it? The TV is ambilight, but the entertainment zones it creates are fiddly and rarely work and usually need to be reset.

I only see it there as part of a GU10 starter pack!!

And on .uk, it still shows as unavailable….

I’m up to 57 active bulbs, 11 dimmer switches and 3 sensors, and all still seems to be working fine however still want the Bridge Pro once I can get it…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,120 ✭✭✭JDxtra

It doesn't appear in a search, but the link I posted does show the product I purchased. Hopefully it doesn't come with an EU plug!

The only one I see on .co.uk is this one, but it's from a 3rd party seller and quite pricy when the shipping is added!!

    Screenshot 2025-09-23 at 13.30.18.png

Can't find it at all on the Irish version!!

Think I'll just have to wait!

It doesn't appear in a search today on Amazon.ie, but it did the other day as I was able to buy one. I can see the product in my list of orders and generate a shortcut to the product page:

I assume there will be an easy way to copy the old bridge over to the new bridge? Has anyone seen comments yet by Signify on that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,156 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

It's supposedly a very seamless process, like changing from an old to a new iPhone….

Correct, it is a very seamless process. I did it. The whole thing including software update to around 20 minutes. Everything worked perfectly first time.
