Getting fairly loaded on here. I asked a question. Eventually the owner responded.

I don't like the "release the hounds" attitude.

Explain please? I will pay a subscription if I know where it's going.

4 people so far have ganged up on me when I asked one simple question (including yourself).

    Where is MY money going?

To be fair your monies are going where ever you're spending it. You might have a case asking about it if you paid a subscription which is totally a voluntary option with nobody being forced to purchase one.

    That makes no sense!

If I pay a subscription and the site closes down, where's the money?

I will pay if I get a simple answer. Where is the money going!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,503 ✭✭✭✭con747

As stated by the owner, it's sitting in an account for now. Maybe wait and see what is announced when the time comes then decide if you want to subscribe after you know exactly where the money will go.

You are posting a question on a public forum. Chances are you'll get a few responses. It's not ganging up at all, it's how a forum works and I reject in the strongest terms your accusation that I have ganged up on you. I've never ganged up on anyone in my life.

You've asked a question and it was answered. Your money is staying in your pocket, as is your choice.

  • Site Banned Posts: 7,421 ✭✭✭gameoverdude

Jaysus. Go back into my bank account? Thought not.

Why are you so invested? You're the 6th person to give me grief!

Simple question which you won't be able to answer, where is the money going?

    Costs for the site hosting?

If they don't get enough for that, where's the subscription money gone? Who's pocket?

    I'll let that lie.

Im sick to my back teeth ask8ng, again, where is MY money going! You're not the owner, but you seem to be in the kow…or am I wrong?

@gameoverdude As I am watching the program, bit of advise "TAKE A BEAT"

As for your question it has been answered before, I think try here and also look at Odhran's prior public comments?

Not giving you grief with this comment in your view, I hope!

You are not a victim. You are wrong. You don't get to let a false accusation lie. I will not be accused of a crime I did not commit 😄

You responded to Odhran with 'grand'. So you're happy with his response.

At the end of the day, you can stay as 'confused' as you choose. Makes no odd to anyone but yourself 🥳

Can you give us a breakdown of these technology fees if at all possible ?

What is consuming the bulk of the 140k annual running cost ?

Is it mostly Vanilla maintenance and licencing fees, wages, etc ?

Did I claim to be a victim?

I asked questions but did not receive answers.

Mod voices from non mods. Interesting.

    Again, a pile on. Couldn't give a ****.

Attack the post, not the poster.

What are you questioning now? @gameoverdude

In the context of Blue Lights, "Take a beat" is used to mean taking a brief pause to think before acting or responding, especially during stressful or risky moments. The phrase is often advice given to new police officers to encourage mindfulness and composure when faced with pressure, suggesting that even in chaotic or high-intensity situations, it is wise to slow down for a moment to assess and avoid rash decisions. This ethos of pausing to reflect for a split second is woven throughout the show, representing a practical approach to handling emergencies and personal stress.

My question is two fold and rather simple.

If boards closes. Where does the subscription money go.

Why are people who are not owners getting so invested? Not looking at you corkie.

Also, don't talk down to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 17,188 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

In fairness you started it by accusing a poster of" shilling ."

How did you expect that to go down ?

Appears you are not interested in any answers just want to accuse others of being in the know , wink wink , something something . Why would anyone want to talk to someone behaving like that ?

Read the links you were sent and stop being a dick .

It was answered way back when in the thread that if boards closes, all subs will of course cease to renew, but anything already paid in advance will be lost to the user. Of course, there is the possibility of a charge back from your bank, but from boards specifically, no refunds. Same with people banned after subscribing.

People are getting invested on both sides of the sub or no sub argument. I can't tell you why, because I'm not one of them but I assume it's because people still love boards and additionally some people have very real gripes with the site that they would like to see addressed - and because the powers that be aren't coming across as very open with information when they're asked questions about the plans.

As for shilling (earlier comment I think?), he's not shilling imo. He made a way to reduce bouncing and whatever else, but he doesn't want to be banned from boards by providing it to everyone, so is giving it to subscribers only because that aligns with the ad free boards promised to subscribers.

That seems to be discussion about me, but as far I am aware nobody accused me of 'shilling'? I certainly not posting to encourage others to sub or not?

The main reason the extension is only for subs, is because it hides the site notice about subbing! And is not official, or not sanctioned by boards.

From my reading of it corkie there was a misunderstanding with this exchange:

Gameoverdude: Am I the only one getting register to vote ads?

Corkie: As a paid member I don't see ads (wouldn't anyway with Private DNS)

That could be misunderstood as a passive agressive " if you don't want to see ads subscribe or use a Private DNS" which could be shilling either a boards sub or dns service.

The fact that a large proportion of the somewhat patronising replies to the shilling comment came from subscribers could further reinforce that misunderstanding.

People are getting invested on both sides of the sub or no sub argument.

There is no sub or no sub argument, much and all as some think there is, or would like there to be.

Sub or don't sub. Make a decision. Be happy with that decision, nevermind what anyone else is doing and get on with enjoying the site while we still have it.

  • Site Banned Posts: 7,421 ✭✭✭gameoverdude

Thanks. I don't really have an issue with corkie at all. In fairness to them they're taking time out to update (why them and not the owners. Another question).

This subscription nonsense is just another boards clique.

I've said multiple times I'd give dosh if very simple questions were answered.

I'd expect at the very least I wouldn't be shamed to become a potential investor. Im not the one with the begging bowl out.

Where is the boardsie money now? Just resting in an account?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,869 ✭✭✭Rocket_GD

Your questions have been answered, you just don't seem to like the answers. Asking them again in a snarky way isn't changing the answers.

The owner said the money is sitting on the stripe account yet to be drawn down on, so yes essentially it is resting in an account as all money does before it's spent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,822 ✭✭✭savemejebus

I'm sorry but I'd have to disagree with that.

There have been plenty of posters with pro and anti sub sentiments making snarky comments, arguing for and against people subscribing and fostering an us vs them atmosphere since this started and the creation of a subscriber only forum as a benefit for people who subbed only made it worse, especially with reports of people getting warnings for talking about what was happening in the subscriber only forum outside of it.

  • Site Banned Posts: 7,421 ✭✭✭gameoverdude

Sparky? Im not. I thought i was being very reasonable until I was jumped on.

Also my question wasn't answered. Where does the money go after resting in the account?

I'd be happy seeing it go to a charity. Not into the owners pocket.

Consider people as investors, not idiots.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 7,573 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hannibal_Smith

Ah stop. Us v them atmosphere. It's not a big decision. It's deciding whether to subscribe to a forum or not. Mountain and molehill comes to mind.

Did you have a problem with the subscribers forum that was here before?

Anyhow, I'll take my own suggestion here on board and get on with enjoying the site myself 🥳😄

    @savemejebus Thanks for clarification!

The main reason for my reply in that was to the mention of the kinds of ads been shown. And a response to it was the attached image. (My campaigning for spoiled votes).

Edit: - And I was the one to get the warning for breaching site rules revealing content from PRIVATE forums!
