I have it on, the only reason, I didn't find anything else to watch instead.

It's like a bad episode of Fair City so far!

Poor Aidan Quinn - this is his Cyril Cusack in Glenroe

Also, astonished to see Debi Mazar's in this. Did she really like Ireland after making Space Truckers here, thirty years ago?

    Holy shizt, this is scutter.

Really feel sorry for Aidan Quinn.

Absolutely dreadful.Really weak script and poor acting, though to be fair, the writing gives the actors very little to work with.

I was looking forward to this after seeing all the hype about it, what a disappointment.

I didn't watch and not something I would watch typically, but having suffered an annoying ad for it on every ad break for The Traitors, I'm glad to hear it was ****

Haven't read any of Keyes' books but the hype drew me to it. As mentioned in the review below, the reference to "the good room" was something I might have once heard 45 years ago. I wasn't expecting it to hear it multiple times in this program.

    Switched off soon after that.

Wasn't expecting much but my God that was awful. I wouldn't be overly critical of the actors I think most of the problems stem from a very poor script. A real head scratcher was Adian Quinn. What was he thinking when he signed for this muck.

It seems this may be one of the great catastrophes in Telly Eireann's history, bless.

I think they were trying to mimic "this life" the late 90s UK sitcom with all the nightclub and drug taking scenes at the start. It didn't really work though as dublin is not London late 90s and RTE cannot do a genuine nightlife scene, you just have to see fair city for that . The accents were cringy aswell, with the lifestyle they were allegedly leading they should have been a bit rough around the edges

Sounds like another the Big Bow Wow.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

It looks so undynamic too, from what I've seen. Real locations end up looking like the Carrigstown backlot.

Might take the hype wind out of Marian Keyes' sails for a while, herself and all her "ridin'"!

At the beginning I thought it was trying to be an Irish Sex And The City but after a few minutes I agree with you.

I didn't enjoy it. I didn't really expect to tbf, but thought I'd give it a chance based on some of the cast. I just don't recognise this sort of lifestyle and family dynamic at all in Dublin so just can't relate. Maybe if it was set in London or America I probably wouldn't be so turned off by that disconnect. It's not that I don't believe this lifestyle exists among a section of society in Dublin, but it's not a world that I relate to or have any interest in.

Because it doesn't exist, those rathmines girls would be too uppity to be going to dingy nightclubs which don't really exist much in dublin now anyways, maybe 20 years ago it might have been a bit more realistic. They would be in the fancy rugby bars around rathmines and ballsbridge, searsons and the bridge for example. The 80s and 90s were the hayday for that scene in dublin with all the lesson street late night clubs

They seemed to be in Zozimus so I think that's realistic enough. I knew this type when I was in UCD, it's just not my life. I absolutely think it exists though - swanning around doing coke, affording to all live in their own Dublin apartments while working mediocre jobs and getting €300 for a concert from daddy without a moment's hesitation. I see it reviewed as "a relatable slice of middle-class life" so obviously it connects with some regardless of quality.

I thought it was not great, not as terrible as some on here think. Carrie Crowley as the mother is miscast and the character is poorly written- her Irish mammyness comes across much better in the books, but I think them being set in the 90s works better in that respect too.

Rachel’s drug addiction takes place in New York in the books- RTÉ’s budget mustn’t have allowed for this 🤪

The script just wasn’t particularly sharp or particularly funny- nothing about it so far really stands out, in a world of endless content.

These uppity women and their global successes, who de hell do they tink de ar?

Oh so it was originally written in the 90s and that's what she was portraying , the dublin scene of the 90s? If that was the case then it was a mistake to try and write it as being contemporary . Maybe taking cocaine might be relevant but hardly in a dingy nightclub, it's mostly done at home now i believe

I enjoyed it. Thought the acting was good - never stilted - and the dialogue flowed nicely. I always enjoy seeing Dublin on screen, too

I’m a bit baffled by the negativity here and in the Irish Times and Independent reviews. I have so many negative feelings towards Ireland, yet I always seem to be on the opposite side from the consensus.

I didnt think much of last nights episode but will give it a 2nd chance next week to see if it improves. I think the actors playing the 5 sisters are miscast - none have any qualities which grabs the viewers interest. What the hell is Stephanie Preizner doing in it - she cant act or write- absolutely hate her. ( incidently she also wrote the screenplay so im guessing she cast herself)

I read all the books written by Marian Keyes about the Walsh family and they were brilliant - so i was let down by last nights episode. Years ago there was a film made called watermelon made about this family ( story of when Claire was an unmarried pregnant girl). Brenda Fricker played the mammy and she was brilliant. Anna Friel played Claire and she was also brilliant.

Watermelon was a great tv movie! They completely changed Claire’s storyline but it worked! The chemistry between the actors was great. Sean McGinley and Brenda Fricker were perfect as the mam and dad of Claire.

I think it’s been completely overhyped. SP & Marion on the LLS were insufferable & they’ve an equally insufferable podcast every week too!

Ah come on now. Cyril as Uncle "Pether" was a great character.

    There's no comparison to this!

Have you considered not watching shows and not listening to podcasts that you find to be insufferable?

He wa s great, but he was slumming it, moreso than all the weird Italian movies he did. (I love his turn as the Godfather in Italian Connection)

Really have to hand it to RTE for keeping their shows unique and a lens on modern Ireland.

Think this is entertaining and especially like the added social media around the series with the podcast. Very Disney.
