I just started my Inster and got a warning that says “Check electric vehicle system”. The diagnostic info it provides relates to “Battery Management system, Low Voltage DC/DC Converter” and “Vehicle Control System”. Has anyone gotten this before?

yes, EVs are loaded (insufficient vehicle data for accurately quantifying risk actuarially)

red-click may have increased their risk ratings for stuff @mustyrocks mentioned

GoCompare and others are your friend! 😜

Sounds like an ICCU issue, I'd to get mine replaced (AC charging failure) so I'd just call your dealer. It didn't alert on-screen at all for me though - I just had to guess :/

Was yours in the first batch of Insters at the start of the year? There's a service bulletin for those which a group member put up on FB:

That's the one that presumably caused my AC charging fault, perhaps your issue is related to the second (BMS / HV warning light) service bulletin, don't have a copy of that but:

    image.png

this is what came up when I searched my VIN ages ago before the ICCU replacement where they did all these bits.

Please let us know how you get on with the dealer.

6 months of ownership , so the blue link subscription / “free trial” expired this week. I can see the status of the car in the app but can’t lock/unlock, start stop charge, start stop AC via the app anymore. It costs €30 per year to get these back, but the app doesn’t accept any card details (tried 4 cards) currently! For me, so far anyway

Curious as to what statement was made when buying our cars?

I was told Bluelink was free for a few years but Hyundai might change this.

6 months came as a bit of a surprise to me. And then a drop to Lite. :(

What does it do that is any use in Lite mode?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Colm M O C

It lets you see the state of the vehicle - state of charge, locked or unlocked etc. But not remotely control charging or AC etc (or even unlock, which can be an important function thru the app)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

    or even “full” mode

some people hate the fob and are surgically attached to their phone so, yeah, makes absolute sense for them

Personally I like the fob - looks good, and automatically unlocks the car as I approach with bags of shopping in each hand (since I’m not an octopus, I don’t have a spare “tentacle” to hold the iPhone at the same time in order to unlock the car with the app…)

More importantly, the fob contains the emergency manual key to get inside the car - which the app doesn’t 🤣

So I am starting to see more and more fellow Insters on the roads. Yesterday I was in Carrickmines and spotted a nice Khaki colour one on the roundabout and then 10 secs later a black colour one with L plates. I think we should come up with the name for a group of Insters, I propose a gram (of Insters) ? :-)

I have seen quite a few now in the last month with a wide range of ages from Pensioners at Lidl to the young L plate owner above. Good to see such wide appeal.

That glass can be seen through often and definitely at night when there is an inside light on. I would have preferred now shelf but rather a cover on a roller attached to the rear door that stretches or contract when opened/closed.

like all cars, compromise is necessary - ownership is a ‘can I live with it?’ decision

and to be fair to Hyundai there are a lot of shelf storage permutations (5!)

do you need to leave valuable stuff in the boot overnight?

if ‘yes’ would it fit in the first underfloor boot? (it is quite big)

if ‘no’ then why not leave the cover attached to the seats but slotted into the sides at the back of the seats, then clip it in place when needed? (see previously posted pic)

Anyone else getting this kind of condensation on the windscreen?

    IMG_0803.jpeg

It started out as a thin layer, so I hit the 'demist front' button

    IMG_0804.jpeg

which seemed to make it worse, and left us with a thicker layer.

It's actually on the outside, so the wipers wiped it off, but I've never seen anything like that on any other car before.

    Hi All,

Did a Wicklow to Belfast run at weekend. 211km ish each way.

    Inster 49kwh.

Full charge 100% at home with 435km range showing.

Used Eco mode and cruise control where possible and stuck to around 105kmh in most places aside from overtaking.

Note: This wasn’t me being frugal but just felt like a decent speed in most cases.

Reached FastNed Banbridge 189km with 54% left in charge or roughly 200 and something km.

Charged to 80% in 15mins (so fast) for 14 euro. Gave me around 330km. And headed on to Belfast. Arrived with 69% left.

On the way back stopped at FastNed again with 59% left and charged to 80% or 320 ish Km, 11 euro.

Arrived home with 107km or 33% left after 180 odd km from FastNed.

Absolutely brilliant experience. Great to drive, nippy, great safety features. Great experience charging.

Now did I need to charge twice? Maybe not or not stop twice but charge up the same amount. I was just being cautious as I was expecting, like everyone, to get a range of around 200km. Final trip was 419km at an average of 14.3kw/100km.. just being an average this comes out at around 342km range on 49kwh battery.

I am lost after this.. will do better maths later. feel free to set my math straight.

Also it was eco mode but I don’t have any issues with this.

Thats pretty common on my current (not yet inster) car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭Meesared

My previous post was meant to be a reply to this, no idea why it didnt quote

I note someone mentioned a 'one touch' button to mute notifications on the steering wheel. I cant seem to find it. Is it a setting for the 'star' button?

I believe a 3 sec press mute button turns off ‘speed’ bongs - all others must be individually switched off as required (presumably you’d want some…?) and the star button can be configured to take you straight to the relevant submenu

@AndrewJRenko ”Anyone else getting this kind of condensation on the windscreen?”

if it’s outside as you say then the windscreen condensation must be being caused by high relative humidity outside and nothing to do with the car

Yes, very high relative humidity recently (South Dublin). I noticed external condensation on my home windows yesterday, have never seen that during August before.

What does mute button on st wheel look like? would like it to stop audio rather than slowly tuning down volume with cogwheel.

Inster makes 5 EVs between my parents and myself and my brother. We are doing our part for sales!

Had my first proper go in Inster today, my mother got one on friday. Lovely little car, she loves it. All the imprtant spec of more expensive cars. Drives very well. Quite sedate for an EV but she thinks its an absolute rocket compared to her old corsa, which I suppose it is, man that thing was slow!!

Rear seats amazing, jealous of it compared to my R5. I really wish they could have implemented a back seat solution like that in the Renault and take it from the boot when needed. May not have been possible with styling.

That said I won't be using much of either the boot or the back seat but the inster is just really clever. I know I'll get caught out one day with the R5 back seats.

Thankfully some of the Inster software is similar to the Kia my dad has, will make it easier for them and for me!!

Really nice cars inside, outside im still on the fence about but at least they are unique.

Best of luck to all the owners, great range of small EVs coming in next year or 2 from hyundai, kia, Renault, vw group among others, really great to see.

Yep had a good mess around with them this evening. Really a brilliant setup. Simple, and really effective.

    Mechanical door key (emergency)

I decided to test mine over the weekend

    • remove key from fob - simple (slide switch on back of fob and pull it out)
    • remove protective keyhole plastic cover (driver’s door only) - tricky, best with 2 people or cover is liable to ‘ping’ off and hit the floor (pull door handle and hold ‘open’ while pushing key into slot underneath cover and prising cover away from door)
    • insert key into lock and turn clockwise - nothing happened!! Tried many times ☹️
    • to reinstall - much easier (pull door handle and hold ‘open’ again, position top of plastic cover into groove, then carefully lower base of cover and gently push until it snaps back into place)

Has anyone tested their mechanical key and did it open the door? You really do want to know it works before you need it to!

The windscreen is cold because you have the aircon set low. I guess the lamination allows that to cool the outer layer of the screen. Ireland is pretty humid and the moisture in the air condenses on your cold windscreen?

So looks like I caught the Battery bug as well …..

    IMG_20250821_164117489_HDR_AE.jpg IMG_20250821_164138444_HDR_AE.jpg

Off to the dealer in the morning for me. First batch black elegance from Feb. Hopefully its just the patch update.

    😯

Ah no, I’m sorry to see you’re having the same issue. Mine is also from the first batch from Feb. I was told that it’s an issue with one of the coolant pumps which will have to be replaced. The kicker is that the replacement part won’t be in the country for another 4-6 weeks, so I’ll be without my car until then. Disappointing to say the least.
