Keegan hasn't come across Great at all - some of his matchups have been strange and all his interview answers general shite

A geographic entity. Don’t forget the Norwegian and the poor old Brits.

Could it even extend to gun violence/a shooting……fully securing golf courses from nut jobs with weapons must be difficult….?

    https://www.golfdigest.com/story/ryder-cup-2025-rory-mcilroy-saturday-fans

In general, I quite like the tribalism and atmosphere of the Ryder Cup but that was a shambles yesterday. There was a dark undertone the whole day.

USPGA have handled it very badly. Has there even been an apology regarding the MC they hired? That alone set the tone. Emboldened the fans.

Hope Europe put it on them today.

When McIlroy's attempt slid past the cup, the cheers exploded into slurs: "

    Leprechaun" "

    Overrated" “

    Take out the Irish trash

A woman in an official volunteer uniform, standing outside the ropes, offered her assessment: "You have no ass, Rory."

Wouldn’t expect anything less from Trumps America…

There's a reason 80 million of them support Trump, he's the perfect embodiment of the arrogance, exceptionalism and arseholery they aspire to. Most of the 'aw shucks i just love ireland' is a front, when the mask slips they revert to type.

One sure thing about Septic Tanks....they are full of sh1t

The biggest crime of the day though is at the feet of the MC. Even if the crowd were chanting FU Rory, you don't join in.

I reckon the buffoonery has backfired on the Yanks. JT was trying to do the Marshall job a lot of the time last night when he should only be concerned with his own game.

Those kind of comments, while they are a reflection of the trashy and classless country the States has become... I can kinda live with, or are nearly expected. I can put that down to stupid drunk Americans being stupid drunk Americans. Stupid drunk Americans have been a feature of golf for a long long time, unfortunately.

It's the personal insults, attacks on the players families or someone's physical characteristics that are completely OTT. That sh1te, and all the shouts while players are preparing to hit the ball, are things that are completely out of order.

I read reports this morning that someone had thrown a drink at Rory's wife and some of the others supporting him and Shane on the 17th. They are so far beyond "fans"

    Ah come on —…'the whole country' ? …all 340 million ='classless people' ?

A little bit of nuance wouldn't come amiss.🙂

I'd be leaving the wife's and family back in the clubhouse, not worth it being out there.

MC should be told you’re no longer welcome here. Marshals should be contacting police about who’s giving out the abuse and getting them removed. I assume maybe they don’t want to do that role or not asked to. It seems to get worse each time in America.

Players should also have to be better controlled than shouting back f bombs also. Does nothing but adds fuel. Will some of suffer longer as a result of it. Yes some might say well it’s hard but they should have a process to let vice captain or someone else handle it that players picking out idiots

This is nothing new for this event when held on US soil. Nobody remember 1999 the battle of Brookline? Monty getting abused players wives getting spat at. This is just pissed up abusive US fans who have always attended the Ryder cup.

Looking at that single's lineup, I can see the yanks making a bit of a comeback by winning many of the earlier matches, bar Fleetwood's say. So I'd expect the yanks to potentially win 4-5 of the first 5 matches say, before hopefully the European strength further through the field takes hold & brings the cup home for Europe.

E.g. McIlroy looks to me like he is absolutely knackered. He has played 4 rounds now, with insults, expletive chants lead by a dumb PA cheerleader, and the worst type of ignorance & sneers thrown at him throughout. At times he's reacted to these, which is only natural, but I think it's all taken a bit of a toll on him tbh. He wasn't at his best at all in the 4 ball with Lowry yesterday evening for instance. That he has won 3.5 points for Europe, from a potential 4, so far in this Ryder Cup is a huge testament to the man's sheer class & competitiveness, and to that of his playing partners also.

Tbh, I think the singles match versus Scheffler will be a match too far for him sadly, but of course, I hope I'm wrong. Scheffler has had a lousy tournament, but he's back to a singles format now, that he, & the rest of the Yanks clearly & historically prefer. So he'll be mad keen to make some amends for his poor showing so far in this Ryder Cup. Ditto for many of the other yanks. This ain't fully over yet imho, despite what some posters are trying to say on here, but I do expect Europe to eventually win by a margin after the first 5 singles matches say... so all to play for!!

    Go Europe!!!

P.s. with the behaviour of the American crowd and some of the US teams caddies & players e.g. de Chambeau's obnoxious outburst yesterday evening, it would be really great to see the Europeans wipe the floor with the septic tanks, and at least show that in this Ryder Cup, it was good golf that did the talking !!

It’s a cringe fest. Golf is not and never was remotely close to being gladiatorial. The manufactured hyping it up is embarrassing.

There’s an excuse for fans, as sometimes the “mob” mentality kicks in, but the players reacting with aggression and f bombs really sullies the traditions and etiquette of the game.

That MC apparently apologized to Rory and then resigned.

    yep,

They’ll get their moment this evening when the trophy is being preset and only real golf fans are still there…

Agreed. He was interviewed on the 18th Green and was asked about the boisterous crowds the inference being the home support. He immediately referred to the European fans in the crowd at that moment singing and said well they're loud as well. He's a smart guy and obviously understands the difference between singing songs and cheering versus shouting and hurling abuse. At least acknowledge that the latter is not acceptable. Completely disingenuous and hopefully the Europeans give them another hammering today.

Each match has a referee. The way things are going with the Ryder Cup then it will get to the point where if a player receives verbal abuse then the referee will award the hole to the player automatically. Wouldn't be long in putting manners on the crowds since they could still engage in partisan cheering/jeering but without it crossing the line. Anyone in the crowd would think twice about doling out abuse as well since I doubt being in a crowd and being pinpointed as the offender who cost their side a hole would be popular.

That won't happen imho, teams & players can only control their behaviour, and that of their caddies & teammates. Bad behaviour outside of that 'bubble' isn't really their responsibility & they can't control it, so shouldn't really be held to task over it imho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,254 ✭✭✭jackboy

That wouldn't work. People would put on the opposing teams colours and shout abuse at their own team😅

I'm so happy that Lowry was there to back up his best mate Rory yesterday. You couldn't think of a better person or player to stand beside him in that moment. Half his job was being a bouncer during the round and letting Rory step up. The other half was some pretty epic putts and approach play. To manage to hold it together and put in that performance under the circumstances is just phenomenal.

Europe have been breathtaking. The level of golf displayed so far just outrageous. The pairings have been near perfect. Contrasted to the English/Morikawa double down and you could Bradley would nearly have been better off togging out.

You can see at least 3 future captains in the current Europe team. Donald and his crew have laid out the blueprint for future years.

The Luke Donald knighthood campaign is going to kick off on Monday if it hasn't already.

what’s to stop American fans abusing American players then in the hope of having a point awarded to them and against Europe for ‘being abused’

So if I and 13 of my friends go down to Adare Manner in 2 years dressed as Yankee’s and we abuse all the European players we can single handedly win the Ryder Cup for Europe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,675 ✭✭✭valoren

I know it would be impossible to police it given the size of the crowd and the sheer litany of insults. Hopefully the team post a record win today and it might just click with the Americans that being abusive hasn't worked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,156 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

Absolutely. In a way I'm delighted that this bigoted, classless, violent, racist country is taking full advantage of this opportunity to display itself to the world!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,736 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

There were fights seemingly, think just between Americans, in the grandstand after Rory Shane game.

Keegan has been a disgrace, saying he's not heard anything out of line. Why are your players trying to quieten the crowd then Keegan? Let alone his pairing choices, but thats in Europe's favour, so fair play to him for being a dope.

The MC released a video yesterday about stopping bullying on TikTok...i guess it's ok once you've a megaphone in hand though.

Bit of a disaster from all angles for America

    MC is fired

I know in 1991 Steve Pate was injured before the tournament and they decided to keep him in the team. He played once on the Saturday and then pulled out on the Sunday, with his match being halved. That half won the Ryder Cup for the US.
