I find when a journalist or broadcaster gets criticised by a contribution that they very easily and quickly get their backs up.

Pat didnt respond to the dynamic pricing when it comes to radio advertising, which pays his wages.

It always amazes me that the public dont get the idea of supply and demand.

Recently straight after a certain event was announced I booked flights and accommodation. That evening the flights had gone up x 10 and the accommodation by 50%. I'm sure there are people today looking to book flights and accommodation for that are complaining about price gouging.

By the way, im not excusing the hotel cancelling, that is just sh1tty behaviour and I would vote with my feet for any hotel that did that to me.

The amount of time off Brendan O'Connor gets from his 4 hours-a-week job is jaw-dropping.

    😠

Pat Kenny has Robert Something Grimes on every Thursday to talk about misinformation.

Today he hosted a discussion about the murder of the podcaster fella in Utah the other today.

Pat had a number of conspiracy theories on the event and read out a few fairly whacky texts pointing the finger at Putin amongst others.

It seems to me that Pat indulges conspiracy theories depending in their viewpoint and then warns of the dangers of other conspiracy theories depending on their viewpoint.

He is having jam with jam on it.

Pat Kenny doesn't give a toss about misinformation.

The slot should be banned by the BAI. It's a stain on Pat Kenny's legacy.

All the stuff on the slot revolves around American conspiracy theories which the Irish public don't need to hear about. Pat gone down the path of American toxic rubbish infecting Irish society. The faster he's gone from Irish media the better for our society.

A slot pointing out some of the ridiculous conspiracy theories is not misinformation.

The BAI doesn't exist anymore and it was never a censorship organisation anyway.

The functions of the BAI are now under the remit of Coimisiún na Meán.

Coimisiún na Meán | Ireland's media regulator https://share.google/ewQRS2gGF8bhGEyNy

If you really feel that PK, one of the leading broadcasters of his generation, needs to stop telling the Irish public what you think they don't need to hear drop them a line.

Let us know how you get on.

Ridiculous conspiracy theories that revolve around America. Nothing to do with us. And Pat Kenny mouthing off Democrat conspiracy theories. Terrible radio.

Pat Kenny broadcasting clips of Charlie Kirk on abortion and race this morning.

    Pat Kenny a disgrace.

He's introducing the inflammatory American discourse into mainstream Irish media and he's been doing it for years. The stuff today was particularly disgraceful.

And the notion of the Irish media discussing free speech in America gives me a laugh with him and Claire doing musical chairs.

Really don’t see what point you are trying to make especially what the relevance of Pat retiring and being replaced by Clare Byrne is !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,548 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

I don't recall Pat Kenny saying anything about the ban on Irish Times staff appearing on Newstalk because Fintan O'Toole wrote a negative piece on Dennis O'Brien or the ridiculous libel laws here meaning most Americans would laugh at our version of freedom of speech.

I agree- it was character assassination of a dead man- with many clips taken out of context. It's unnecessary and undignified. Also as you pointed out- Newstalk boycotted Irish Times staff for years at the behest of their owner. Not a peep from fearless Pat.

Every time I hear that misinformation lad I get an uneasy feeling. He just says "that's not true" which I hear as "that doesn't agree with my worldview". He never provides evidence to support his assertions.

The constant self flagellation of being shít at Irish. Go learn it if you want and leave the rest of us alone.

The one takeaway I have from Charlie Kirk is that his sympathisers get very upset when his own words are aired on the radio.

Almost like they know he was a c*nt but they don't want you to know that.

Most people in Ireland including myself had never heard of Charlie Kirk. They don't have a view on him.

Pat Kenny and others trying to drag us into the American toxic culture wars. That's the only point I'm making.

Well, I didn't know he was a c*nt, but I now know you are.

Lol. You didn't know anything about him but yet you feel the need to say that about me?

    1. You're a liar, you know full well who he is and what he stands for
    2. It says more about you than it does about me that you defend a man who was happy for people to be shot dead every year. "A prudent deal".

Here's the full question and answer:

AUDIENCE QUESTION: How's it going, Charlie? I'm Austin. I just had a question related to Second Amendment rights. We saw the shooting that happened recently and a lot of people are upset. But, I'm seeing people argue for the other side that they want to take our Second Amendment rights away. How do we convince them that it's important to have the right to defend ourselves and all that good stuff?

CHARLIE KIRK: Yeah, it's a great question. Thank you. So, I'm a big Second Amendment fan but I think most politicians are cowards when it comes to defending why we have a Second Amendment. This is why I would not be a good politician, or maybe I would, I don't know, because I actually speak my mind.

The Second Amendment is not about hunting. I love hunting. The Second Amendment is not even about personal defense. That is important. The Second Amendment is there, God forbid, so that you can defend yourself against a tyrannical government. And if that talk scares you — "wow, that's radical, Charlie, I don't know about that" — well then, you have not really read any of the literature of our Founding Fathers. Number two, you've not read any 20th-century history. You're just living in Narnia. By the way, if you're actually living in Narnia, you would be wiser than wherever you're living, because C.S. Lewis was really smart. So I don't know what alternative universe you're living in. You just don't want to face reality that governments tend to get tyrannical and that if people need an ability to protect themselves and their communities and their families.

Now, we must also be real. We must be honest with the population. Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty. Driving comes with a price. 50,000, 50,000, 50,000 people die on the road every year. That's a price. You get rid of driving, you'd have 50,000 less auto fatalities. But we have decided that the benefit of driving — speed, accessibility, mobility, having products, services — is worth the cost of 50,000 people dying on the road. So we need to be very clear that you're not going to get gun deaths to zero. It will not happen. You could significantly reduce them through having more fathers in the home, by having more armed guards in front of schools. We should have a honest and clear reductionist view of gun violence, but we should not have a utopian one.

You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won't have a single gun death. That is nonsense. It's drivel. But I am, I, I — I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe.

So then, how do you reduce? Very simple. People say, oh, Charlie, how do you stop school shootings? I don't know. How did we stop shootings at baseball games? Because we have armed guards outside of baseball games. That's why. How did we stop all the shootings at airports? We have armed guards outside of airports. How do we stop all the shootings at banks? We have armed guards outside of banks. How did we stop all the shootings at gun shows? Notice there's not a lot of mass shootings at gun shows, there's all these guns. Because everyone's armed. If our money and our sporting events and our airplanes have armed guards, why don't our children?
