    Thank you as always!

Wow, 2015 must have been a fairly chilly September…

Met Eireann is showing a 48 hour+ rain event starting tonight and ending on Sunday morning, very grim indeed.

It is also spring tides? Could be a bad combination this forecast rain with an easterly aspect and a spring tide.

Thats a warning for a lot of counties when the track of the low is at this stage very uncertain. Met eireann may have jumped the gun on this one. Lets see how it pans out

I've put months of work in to Culture Night and it's going to be a washout.

The 12z runs all backing off the big totals now except UKMO. These charts are totals until Monday night and all fairly consistent. Still not a dry weekend but a lot better than what was showing even last night. Could still change again though I suppose.

Yeah models aligning more now and really backing off from the high rainfall totals that were showing up and threat of strong winds diminishing also, windy around the coasts yes but nothing out of the ordinary apart from it being from a Northerly direction and turning noticeably cooler.

Looks like the UK is going to get the heaviest rain, for the most part we dodged a bullet but still could be quite wet in the SE, parts of the S. Met Eireann might withdraw some of those counties under yellow warning.

Which of course highlights yet again how poor all weather models can be at times! The year 2025 and 2 days out and no model could call it

Goes to show how science has evolved over time, not one cm!!

Mod Note: Merged the significant rainfall potential thread into the Autumn weather thread as a huge downgrade from earlier runs.

That pretty much sums up September so far 🙁

Think we all were this time yesterday!

A pleasant surprise to the relief of many.
I note MT mentioned frost in his forecast this morning for some places next week.

Forecasting the weather day to day seems to be getting more difficult every year .

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,967 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

We dodged a bullet with this 48 to 72 hour rain event. Sun trying to shine here in Meath. Hopefully the majority of tomorrow will be dry in Dublin as I would like to spend the day there without getting soaked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,683 ✭✭✭pauldry

Ya the weather picking up now. Rainfall a lot less over the coming 2 weeks. 127mm in Sligo in opening half of September 2nd half will prob have less than 20mm .

Not too warm though until final few days when nearby storms in the Atlantic will pull up Southerlies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 232 ✭✭ClimateObserver

Thankfully, the models have backed off that deluge. It has been rather wet this September with 90mm received here near the KK-Laois border. An average September is 75mm. So well over the month's average achieved in 57% of the month timewise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,400 ✭✭✭Kutebride

The deluge must be today. Horrible day in the East. In Wicklow all morning. There was a small break but so miserable.

Raining away back in Dublin too.

    MIserable.

    17⁰ Dublin.

I was just listening to a popular radio station while in the car, before 2pm, and the presenter was telling everyone to watch out for the weather alerts for today and all day tomorrow. Most people listening will take that as gospel.
