Unreal band of course but still amazing SOAD are selling stadiums out on multiple days, ultimately being a metal band.

nah it’s more like that they know they are vastly underplaying the uk market so can charge a premium and it will sell out

Its bizarre, even at the height of their powers they were playing arenas with the top level curtained off for 30 pounds.

Now they are playing stadia and charging 6-10 times the price, I cant get my head around it at all.

Ah i don’t think that’s right. 20 years ago they sell out the 3 arena no bother.

    But Aviva or Croker? Nah

They only played here once as part of a festival so we'll never know what they could have/would have sold.

Serj did sell out the ambassador though.

There's few bands I actively follow in the hope of gig announcements, but SOAD are one of them and given the rarity of their gigs (particularly in Europe) these days I'm willing to stomach the steep price.

On a side note is there a particularly big SOAD following in Scotland….? While's there's obviously plenty of the usual "Shame they aren't playing X country" stuff online, I can't help but notice that some Scots were particularly offended by the lack of a Scottish date. Lots of "They're playing England, not the UK", or "Scottish people forgotten about again".

SOAD only played 4 gigs in the 350 million person USA, 2 in 70 million France, 2 in 80 million Germany etc. but they feel entitled to a specific gig in a nation of 5 million? Or is it just political posturing?

I wouldn't say they feel entitled, just disappointed. I'm very disappointed that they're not playing in Ireland.

Gigs '24 - Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball (Gomez), The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Smashing Pumpkins/Weezer, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, Electric Picnic, Pixies, Ride, Therapy?, Public Service Broadcasting, IDLES, And So I Watch You From Afar

Gigs '25 - Spiritualized, Supergrass, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, Queens of the Stone Age, Electric Picnic, Vantastival, Getdown Services, And So I Watch You From Afar

Gigs '26 - Stereolab, Franz Ferdinand, Big Thief, Stendhal Festival, Electric Picnic

    it people being entitled.
Both Ireland and Scotland punch above our weight on major tours given our respecting populations and the added travel needed.
As you pointed out SOAD have not toured anywhere extensively in decades. They cherry pick a handful of major cities, make a ton of money and enjoy the tour

well yes as they set the prices/packages and allow or not allow dynamic etc.

some countries/cities are seen as the cash cow for a European tour and helps cover less financially appealing cities/locations.

Got 3 standing tickets in Paris for the Saturday. Delighted I waited. Very reasonable price too.

I was talking about the UK arenas.

They used to play them with the top tier curtained off.

Got a ticket for London through live nation sale. 55 euro for return flights, 100 for two nights, tickets 130. I’m happy enough with that.

    I **** love system of a down.

Off to Dusseldorf! €150 pp for two tickets. It'll be an expensive enough trip, but still - bucket list band for me. Glad I didn't cave and see QOTSA for the millionth time this year at Kilmainham.

Was a weird purchase - could only use PayPal for the German gig. Didn't have the money in my Revolut so it failed, as I was adding it - the transaction went through via PayPal and Ticketmaster sent me the tix. I wasn't charged until two days later when PayPal took the money. Bizzare. Seemed to be a bank transfer in the end. Was sure the tix were going to vanish.
