Just checked the video of it on their Facebook page. Looks good, Kerry Airport is growing up ;)

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Anyone know what's happening with fr843 kerry to luton ? Kerry airport is saying it departed at 10:50 this morning, Luton airport says its expected at 18:06, and flight radar does not have it airborne?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭embraer170

Seems 9H-QDR operated Luton to Kerry arriving about two hours late, landing around 12:55. The aircraft has been on the ground since. It seems the aircraft is getting ready to depart back to LTN.

Anyone know what the cause of the delay was, crew ? At least I managed to get my first Ryan air refund !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭embraer170

Should be getting €250 compensation as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,889 ✭✭✭SlowBlowin

Thanks for all the information. As the flight was very delayed, and I realised I was going to miss my meeting in the UK, I decided not to fly, do you know if I am still entitled to compensation ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,889 ✭✭✭SlowBlowin

No surprize Ryan air refuse a refund, they say the plane was not delayed more than 5 hours, which it was, so typical.

they say the plane was not delayed more than 5 hours, which it was

What time was it scheduled to arrive in London as per your booking?

    vs.

What time did it actually arrive in London?

    and more importantly

    I decided not to fly,

Not sure how this will impact your claim.

Might be an idea to open a separate thread to get an answer.

The flight was nearly 7 hours delayed arriving so I don't know why they lied about that. Delays more than 5 hours you can request a refund but I don't know if this has to be done before the flight. Probably. Also since you didn't fly you will be considered a no show and won't be entitled to compensation.

To be confirmed but I believe one is entitled to EU261 compensation whether one flies or not, once one has at least checked in.

You can’t be delayed if you never completed your journey. While one has to cancel or make alternative arrangements, the fact that you didn’t fly, means you didn’t ARRIVE at your destination late.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭embraer170

If you checked in and presented yourself at the airport, EU261 rights do apply, even if you later decided not to fly. The key condition is that you have presented yourself at the airport for the planned original departure time, even if you later decided not to fly (for example because the delay made the trip no longer necessary). Only doing online checkin is not sufficient however.

    Interpretive guidelines on EU261:

Impressive that the 5th busiest route out of Kerry according to CSO's latest statistics for Q2, 2025 was Rome Fiumicino considering there is no such airlink between the 2 airports!

Perhaps a typo with the airport code and it's meant to be Faro? ( FAO as opposed to FCO)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭LiamaDelta

I'm more surprised that Luton outperforms Stansted!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,581 ✭✭✭Masala

they have 8 flights a week to LTN. Think it’s only 5 to STN

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,581 ✭✭✭Masala

That MUST be Faro. They don’t fly to Rome !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭LiamaDelta

Yeah true. I didn't realise that. It's unusual for Stansted not to be the main London gateway.

Rough calculations are load factors above 50% on Dublin and above 80% on both London routes is pretty impressive.

    https://m.independent.ie/regionals/kerry/news/kerry-to-belfast-flights-would-be-huge-opportunity-for-kingdoms-newly-expanded-airport/a865040912.html

While any new route would be welcome, i think more Kerry residents would prefer new sun routes or mainland UK or Europe direct destinations.

Yeah Kerry to Belfast would be silly. Cork to Belfast was pushing it back in the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,436 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

That's such a bizarre suggestion, does that councillor have a son or daughter in college in Belfast or something?! Presumably a route to somewhere like Birmingham or East Midlands would be what the the airport would actually be going after at present.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,251 ✭✭✭Storm 10

When Galway Airport was open there were two flights a day to Belfast operated by the small airline that had an accident in Cork then went bust.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,531 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

They even had a Galway to Cork flight.

    Mad stuff

The road infrastructure was not what it is today ('M20' aside).

Great to see growth in passenger numbers, https://www.radiokerry.ie/news/kerry-airport-sees-record-passenger-numbers-for-2025-467263

Time now for some new routes, a winter sun route, European city break destination and another regional UK route should be achievable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭embraer170

    Definitely very decent numbers.

For 2026, Chalair's Kerry-Brive is back in the booking engine but the other French cities are not for the moment.

Another Spanish route would no doubt work (Girona, Malaga, Palma, or even the Canary islands). It would also be good to see either FAO or ALC continue year around.

In terms of European city break destinations, I could see Cologne (although close enough to Hahn), Eindhoven, Paris Beauvais or at stretch even Milan Bergamo but not much else. I cannot imagine Berlin returning with the fees at the new airport.

An additional weekly frequency to Hahn would also be nice, at least for summer. Many years ago, it was at least 4-5 weekly during the peak season.

Interesting statistical overview of how KIR performed every year since commercial services commenced in 1989 as well as how the airport performed in the context of all other airports in Ireland.

The huge jump in pax between 2002 and 2003 was remarkable! There must have been a major uptick in new routes that year. The 2022 large jump can be explained by the lifting of pandemic travel restrictions.
