Yeah, people say that – and I'm sure airlines have survey data that says it too.

However, this data is and can only ever be a best guess, given that nothing other than economy has been offered on short haul out of Ireland in a meaningful way for as long as I can remember.

If it hasn't been tried, then we don't really know.

I develop Superior Solitaire when I'm not procrastinating on boards.ie.

Most business travel is now explicitly economy class only, only the very senior or over 6 hours gets you anywhere near a better seat. Business travel is what keeps the airlines alive in the lean months like November and January when no one is travelling.

Aer Lingus knows how weak demand is for its fake business offering on UK/EU flights.

EIs short haul business class was quite good back in the day, and used to stretch three quarters of the way down the aircraft when heading to London on a Monday morning.

Any rumblings of new transatlantic route announcements for EI for 2026 yet? I think this time last year the grapevine had already established Nashville and Indianapolis were going to launch for 2025.

I think Montreal has been mentioned on here quite recently as been under consideration

Last year's speculation might give you the answer for next year.

would EI move into Canada more and maybe serve cities like Winnipeg or Ottawa as well as Montreal which was previously mentioned. (Please note i am unsure if there is sustainable demand to these cities)

    How is it "fake business"?
It in no way pretends to be Business. Its a flexi ticket with increased Avios earning and additional baggage allowance. Does it even provide lounge access?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74,097 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Aerspace provides lounge access, fast track, but not business class checkin.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 10,160 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

Thanks for that. (Ive looked at the prices on the website, never booked it)

I can see some people thinking its Business like, with Fastpass and lounge access. But thats on them.
My missus says that she see people thinking they are in "First Class" when they book the forward cabin on the A330 foing down to Malaga or Faro.

Is there another a320 with the rugby livery?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 10,160 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

There used to be 2 in the "old rugby livery". (cant recal the reg's)
Then last year the painted one into the "new rugby liverly"
    Perhaps DEG is getting updated?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭LimaBravoTango

DEO and DEI had the previous rugby scheme. DEG is being painted into the standard EI scheme, presumably as the contract with the IRFU is coming to a close.

Sounds like all EI Manchester ops are moving in to Manchester T2. Up until now they'd been split between T1 and T2 which wasn't ideal

    Just to confirm Your assertion:

Aer Lingus has announced that all of its flights between Manchester and the island of Ireland will now move to Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport.

From tomorrow, Tuesday, 16th September, all Aer Lingus and Aer Lingus Regional flights (operated by Emerald Airlines) to Manchester will depart from and arrive into Terminal 2, offering customers a modern and streamlined travel experience.

    Aer-Lingus-2-1180x786.jpg

This transition is part of Manchester Airport’s £1.3 billion transformation programme, which brings all Aer Lingus operations – including its transatlantic services from Manchester – under one roof at Terminal 2. As well as flights to Dublin and Belfast City Airport (operated by Emerald Airlines), Aer Lingus also flies three transatlantic routes from Manchester Airport to New York JFK, Orlando and Barbados.

Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport offers Aer Lingus customers flying between Manchester and Ireland an enhanced airport experience and allows for easier connections to other Aer Lingus services.

Manchester Airport Terminal 2 highlights include:

    • Convenient self-service kiosks for faster check-in
    • Free Wi-Fi and charging stations to stay connected
    • A wide selection of shops, restaurants, ATMs, and currency exchange services

From Manchester, Aer Lingus offers direct flights to New York JFK, Orlando, and its only direct service to Barbados – a seasonal route operating from 28th October 2025 to 28th May 2026. The transition to Terminal 2 makes it even easier for Irish travellers to access this idyllic Caribbean destination.

The terminal move will also make it easier than ever for customers flying from Manchester and the North of England to connect through Dublin to Aer Lingus’ extensive transatlantic network, which includes Cancun, Nashville, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Minneapolis-St.Paul and Denver. Customers flying to the US with Aer Lingus can avail of US customs preclearance at Dublin Airport.

A320 EI-DEG has now been painted into standard livery, from its previous and quite short-lived Irish Rugby colours.

I wonder will there still be a bus transfer at MAN or is it walk in to terminal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,030 ✭✭✭Qprmeath

EI finished sponsoring Irish Rugby after 10 years.

Depends if the terminal has designated Common travel area gates. If it does they may be used, if not, likely bus transportation to a common travel area (no passport check) arrivals lane.

Pity the IRFU sponsorship has come to an end, was often some of the best marketing Aer Lingus has done in recent years. The updated rugby livery was also really nice in the new corporate colour palette, a few minor tweaks and it would work well as a standard livery. Does seem odd they went to the effort of designing and applying a new one for only a year though.

Nice to see the move into T2 at Manchester, a much improved terminal and always good to have all ops under one roof. Connecting to BGI and MCO (daily at MAN vs 4 weekly at Dub) will be much easier.

Anyone know why it takes EI so long to get an aircraft into service? I’ve noticed that EI-XLU hasn’t flown yet and it was similar timelines when they received their previous new aircraft. I know FR are a different beast but they use their new aircraft the next day. Surely EI, with many new aircraft other the past 4 years (A320neo, A321LR, A321XLR) should have a quicker entry into service?
