Hope that works for you. Mine has been silky smooth since day 1, and now spontaneously won't release. I don't think it's jammed, I think it's not getting a signal to unlock. I've a replacement one on order, but suspect when I replace it the existing one will unlock.

It’s a pity there isn’t an option to replace it with a manual (push) latch.

I saw a photo of a faulty actuator that looked water-damaged. If that’s a reason they fail, hopefully the silicone oil will be enough to repel water while the charge door is open.

If it's also an issue with ICE cars, it's probably getting in when the flap is closed too.

looks like ill be checking out of this thread at the weekend. Dealer phoned me last week with an offer to change into a id7 for 2k plus my 242 id4 pro plus with a slight increase in pcp.. have had my eye on it a while and wanted to change into one last year but the numbers were way off. Enjoyed my 2 id4s.. the gtx and the pro plus.. be interesting to compare the id7 to them

I doubt it. I had to replace mine, and the housing as well when it gave up as I had to break it to get it out. I did it myself so had the parts to do a teardown after because if it was fixable I'd keep it as a spare.

What happens the water runs and wicks along the extended actuator and gets around the seals. Once its is inside, the mixture of electricity and water quickly turns the actuator motor to a corroded mess. Its unfixable and there was never a chance if it doing a Lazarus.

Thanks, Would it be worth to get a few and change after 3 years or so just to avoid having to do damage?

I've seen a few new VWs around with those lit-up rear badges, and honestly, they look awful. I always thought it was a cool idea in theory, but in reality, it just doesn’t work. Glad that never made it onto the ID4 here in Ireland. The Audi-style honeycomb rear bumpers on the Tayron are another miss for me. Just not a good look. Feels like VW is trying to appeal to a safer, more conventional crowd with its newer designs. I’ll admit the ID.4 isn’t exactly a stunner, but at least it’s clean and understated. The Tayron, though? Not a fan in person. Comes off a bit showy.

I can't say if it will go but it is a common point of failure. The only thing you are avoiding by doing it in advance is potentially not breaking the plastic outer cover (body panel) but if you know what you're doing you can remove that without breaking it when it's locked closed. Mine broke the night before a long trip so I had to force it open, breaking the cover and the locking tab in the process

In any case, I found that there was no realistic way of getting to the actuator without cutting and breaking the plastic surround and hinge so I ended up buying the whole assembly actuator included. Others here have posted previously that they managed it but my opinion is that you need specific VW tools and clip openers and/or strong abrasion resistant fingers to do it. I had neither.

The assembly including actuator is about €120 (11A809857E) but the actuator alone is less than €20 iirc.

So in short, I'd leave it until it breaks, but watch a video to learn how the body panel can be removed. That way you'll know how to approach the problem if it arises and do the least amount of damage.

Also, if you're buying used, you'll know if it's been done if the sticker that explains what the charging light means isn't present. The sticker doesn't come applied to an OEM spare.

My Husand has an ID4 and 3 times recently the car door has just randomly refused to open with key fob?

Has this happened to anyone else? Its not the battery in key fob and just happens randomly.

The last time it happened we were there for a good 10mins in lashing rain as he had to manual try open the car which took a while.

I'd a few choices words about the car after that!

I've told him to get onto Garage as only a year old but sure I might aswell be talking to wall 🤨

    Hello,

I bought a late 2021 ID4 Pro Tech Package from an auction earlier this year.

It came with some damage to the paint at the front bumper of the car, the paint seems to be removed to the plastic underneath.

    WhatsApp Image 2025-09-04 at 09.22.58.jpeg

I've fixed scrapes/marks before using touch up paint that were a bit smaller than these, but when I got a generic white one to try it was not a good match at all for the colour.

    WhatsApp Image 2025-09-04 at 09.22.57.jpeg

    What I'm wondering is

    (1) Do you think I can fix this up with just touch up paint? I'm wary of bringing the car in to get this whole bumper resprayed as it will probbaly cost a lot and I've had poor experiences in the past getting this done for my wife's car (which she scraped many times). If I can get away with a cheaper fix that will make it look better than it does/does not look terrible I'd like to try that. I'll be selling the car next year so just want it looking better than it does.

    (2) What touch up paint do I need for this? I can't find a sticker with the paint colour in the boot. Internet research suggests it's probably Glacier White Metallic LS9R. I can't find a VW produced touch up paint in this colour but there seem to be lots of ones produced by other companies. I'm guessing I'm better off with touch up paint with a brush (what I've used before) rather than a can of spray paint?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

pop into a vw dealer and they should be able to get the paint details for you. Is it scraped through or just scuffs from whatever it rubbed off? you might be able to get something like t cut scratch remover and try and see with a cloth would it come off. you could try a independent paint repair shop and get a quote. It might not be as bad as you think. I got a quote for a similar type scuff of around 200 euro from a repair shop last year for our second car but we never bothered getting it sorted as it sort of polish off

Looks too bad for a touch up job unless you’re not too fussed. A smart repair which is what a lot of main dealers use should suffice. Most of those lads are mobile outfits.

Thanks, have emailed a few places. The place I brought my wife's Leaf to before seemed to respray the whole bumper, it was expensive enough and didn't look brilliant. Started to peal a bit at the edges after time also.

Ask someone involved in prepping used cars for sale, they’ll have a contact doing smart repairs.

I'd definitely keep ringing around places. I managed to scratch up my old Leaf against a pillar and the repair estimates ranged from €500 to €1500

There's a whole bunch of ways you can fix it. I think the "proper" way to do it is to respray almost the whole front quarter of the car to blend in the different paint colours

However you could probably get about 90% there with a polish and then just filling in the exposed bit with the matching paint.

I think that's basically what the guy ended up doing on my Leaf (and was the cheapest option)

It isn't perfect, but 5 years later and it's still almost impossible to spot

Fixed. Lost at least 1 clip in the process, but it's secure. Easy enough to replace with 2-3 plastic pry tools.

If you leave the power disconnected, will it no longer lock with the central locking?

    Hi folks,

Said goodbye to my id4 this morning. Have these two accessories that I bought it anyone would like them. Based in north county Dublin. Free to whoever wants them. One for sunglasses and another for storage.

Probably. Out of the box it functioned just like a "toggle" button in and out. I plugged it in because I live dangerously (and i've a spare coming from Aliexpress for next time).

New one came with the release cable, but I've no idea how it works. I had a look at how it might work on my broken one and can't see how it does anything.

€4000 deposit contribution and 0.9% PCP offer now available. I’ve just handed back the keys on my 231 and gone with a Pro Plus on this deal.

I added €5k so €440 pm GMFV €20k. The ID5 is only a few grand more expensive and has APR 0% so would be interesting to see how it compares

Just put a deposit on a 2022 ID4, appreciate it if someone could say what the latest software if should be running?

Liam is correct, 3.8 is the latest for the older hardware

It could still be running 3.7,it's worth getting it updated because otherwise the car might lose connectivity with the upcoming 2G/3G switch-off

On a high mileage ID.4 (250Km’s) like this one from the bargains thread, would it need or should it have had gearbox oil or diff oil changes ? Can’t see anything on the VW service schedules.

Did/accepted some update on my 251 ID4 - now everytime its tap 'online' mode and tap 'agree'. Please tell me there is a way to get back to just log in with one (ideally none) tap?
