What's the "insert table" thing in the comment box on mobile about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,167 ✭✭✭corkie

Test a table, these improvements are only partially implemented because a hold on some updates that they may depend on?

@pleasant Co. It is just easier to fill in the fields on desktop, than attempting to do so on mobile.

    EDIT: - Or browser specific!

    What's it for anyway?

To present info like the below?

    2025 Irish presidential election

    Catherine Connolly

    Jim Gavin

    Heather Humphreys

    Untitled Image

    Untitled Image

    Untitled Image

    Fianna Fáil

    Fine Gael

Took me a few minutes to create the above don't see myself going to the trouble to do so again. Some formatting display, i made mistakes with on some fields and it would be easier to copy and paste the table like below.

Edit out the pasting due to the below! @thesandeman

The "Flag" button in desktop is borked. The pop-up box opens within the comments box (I would guess) but you can't scroll down to reach the buttons.

It is an known issue on Mobile! Try it on desktop (or desktop view on mobile?)

Edit:- Still unusable using desktop mode on mobile.

It works ok enough for me on mobile (enough, not great). Firefox. That screenshot was from my laptop.

    See the mobile version:

    Screenshot_20250916-123500~2.png

And just before that I get a prompt to warn or report (in fora where I have permissions).

The issues with Flag reporting seem browser dependent.
On Chrome windows desktop, works fine for me.
On Chrome android, I can't scroll, need to switch phone into landscape.

@New Home Can scroll the options you need to select? There is more than shown in your shot?

It may depend on the browser/device.

Even with desktop view on mobile for me you couldn't zoom into the popup to make it usable.

Edit:- Also tried it using chrome dev tools emulation window (ctrl+shift+i) and select the mobile icon, and again it was un usable.

No, I can't scroll on desktop, Corkie, that's why I posted it. 🙂

All I could see/access is that partial blue bar in the screenshot.

    Odyssey06 also mentioned the browser.

It's weird that on the mobile and desktop version on the phone it somewhat works while it doesn't on an actual desktop. Ah well.

It's also mind boggling that the options shown on your desktop are different to my mobile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,167 ✭✭✭corkie

I think the same options are there is that I scrolled down in desktop to show the last few. Where is you only showed the top three in your mobile shot? On desktop here below is all the options from an inspect of them (Dev Tools)

You're probably right, I didn't try to scroll down the top part.

I've just tried to replicate my second screenshot, and now the pop-up box has moved off to the bottom right, but I can't move it, nor can I sweep over to it, or zoom out to read it unless I switch to desktop mode, switch to landscape and then zoom out as much as I can.

    Look at these:

    @New Home

Did some thinkering for my extension to force the popup full screen. It worked in Dev Tools console, but batling the sites bugs and scripts for it to function correctly when I applied it to the extension. So gave up on the idea.

Turn to landscape and scroll . For me on mobile anyway .

Meaningless though apparently a glitch that was not meant to be there so we have been told . But it's still there . You can click any one and post the real reason in the box . No tick, report won't go through .

Still getting the issue with deleting drafts , on mobile .

On tablet it works to clock on three dots and get options

On mobile even with landscape option it doesn't work all options hidden , over to the side .

I will try switching to desk top mode next time it happens to see if it works on that .

Edit . Turning landscape and minimizing is the key for this ...sorted .

Took a break from looking at ways to fix it, had my dinner, and came up with more ways to approach the problem.

I have tested across devices. But got it to display as a fullscreen popup, making it easier to use on mobile, but still requires a rotation of the device to scroll the options.

Below is the js script that achieves it. I put it up on my github page and have extension scripts that can inject it.

Can't link to my page here, self promotion rules. This is not my extension script.

Remove the .txt on the file. Code hopefully provided that it could be included with the return to basic vanilla?

See, the main issue all along has been that every time Vanilla make a change, something else gets pushed off kilter. It would almost be funny if it weren't this desperately, frustratingly bad.

Tell me about it. Bit of learning lesson tonight for me, I had added small tweaks to the css injects of my extension over the last few days that broke functionality of it. Without me realising. I thought I would would have to take an older version of it and re apply recent improvements. But luckily enough took changes step by step and the first one I applied, exposed the bug that of overwriting other applied css. So a lot of re coding avoided.

Would it be because the last poster on page 24 is a re-reg? Maybe he had other posts on page 25 and they were removed.
