Know bug and will resolve itself hopefully when additional post are made!

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058419316/the-boards-ie-subscription/p25

But it is still a blank page with no posts in it!

Edit: - Rereg posts removed and new posts have resolved it again.

This thing is back with a vengeance.

Also, does anyone know why some "stickied" threads have ticks and others have exclamation marks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,179 ✭✭✭corkie

That may be a choice of the administrator making the thread sticky! @New Home As a mod see what options are available to you to make a sticky if you are even able to do that?

Mods have sufficient permissions to make a thread a sticky, there's no need for an admin to do that.

Ah, I think I got it. It's an ! when Vanilla thinks you haven't read it (even though it's obviously "read").

EDIT: Actually, no, that's not it, scrap that.

I'm not sure... it's possible, I hadn't thought of that.

I know some of it is related to if a thread is considered "answered"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,813 ✭✭✭JayRoc

A couple of times yesterday I quoted posts and the quotes never showed, it just looked like I was talking to myself. Never seen that before

I know if you quote a post it's fine but when you move on and want to quote a second post in the same thread then that one will not appear. It's been like that for a while now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,813 ✭✭✭JayRoc

Wow, really? That seems like a pretty big glitch. Surprised I hadn't come across it

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 79,614 Mod ✭✭✭✭New Home

It's working ok for me on Firefox on desktop. I'll try again from my mobile.

Meanwhile, press enter or return a couple of times after the first quote. It should work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 30,484 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Not really a glitch, just odd. On laptop, Chrome, Windows 11. I just noticed I had a star icon (phone bookmarks icon) on the laptop, between messages icon and my avatar. I clicked on it and was taken to bookmarks, but then the icon vanished and has not been back.

Also - not sure yet, but I think, the bell icon is now clearing on 'mark all as read', previously it would clear then come back. Edit, correction, it may have improved a bit but it is still not working.

Also, the page jumping seems to have reduced to a quick flicker.

@looksee Know bug for Chrome, the icon appears in firefox.

What's the "mute" symbol that's appeared on mobile about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,179 ✭✭✭corkie

You have that option too on desktop, I think as suggested you won't see the thread in your bookmarks anymore.

    Similar to ignoring an account.

On a bit of a experiment, you will still see the thread, but it won't be highlighted as having new posts etc.

Seems a bit pointless. If I don't want to follow a thread anymore I just un-star it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,624 ✭✭✭batistuta9

threads are automatically being marked read now if you view them, even though there should be several pages left unread

Is the site gone glacially slow for anyone else?

It's taken me about 5 minutes to find and post on this thread - been like that for the last hour or so.

    Chrome, mobile android

Maybe a little slower for me - same platform but a matter of a second or two not minutes.

@Goldengirl Thought I opened the wrong thread with your comment below in another forum, thought I open this thread instead!?

It is possible to quote more than once in the same post!

Just an example of quoting more than once above.

One last notification as well that won't go away since Tuesday . Have checked through a few times and pressed mark all read but still there .

How is the text entry box so bad on mobile (firefox on android). Letters appearing out of nowhere, cursor jumping around, quoting an absolute nightmare. It's extremely off putting, and makes the site unusable.

Is it not being looked at with any urgency? it's core functionality like.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 4,704 Mod ✭✭✭✭TherapyBoy

add not automatically capitalising the first letter typed in the text box to that. It’s item #6274 on the ****-that-don’t-work list. 🤬🤬🤬

For the past few days, instead of landing into the comments box, when I quote a post I'm getting bounced back up to the post I quoted. Also, the "first unread post" in banjaxed again - not sure, yet, if it's only for some threads (e.g. YLYL) or for all, but Vanilla is consistently bringing me to the "last unread post".

    PITA, both of these.

The first issue you have has been annoying me for a good few weeks/months at this stage so not new in my case.

    Hi all,

I think this comment box landing issue related to page jumping which is all falling back on quoted posts. I have raised this with Vanilla again. But as with a lot of threads I think once it reaches a certain number of posts the page loading gets all muddied up.

    Mike.

Mods should go back to limiting threads to whatever the limit is (10k in past from memory).

One of the Vanilla selling points was that this would no longer be necessary. Did they lie? 🤔

Another issue is that the emoticon pop-up box in the Desktop version in Firefox can't be seen fully.
