Anyone going to ploughing 2025 next week. I missed my favourite show in Tullamore in August. Will be keeping an eye on the weather next week.

judging by the video I saw from there today and the rain outside now I think waders will be needed for it next week

Might be a good week to buy. I'm looking for a few store lambs

Going up Tuesday with the father. Saw a few videos from inside. If this rain stays going, I'll need the wellies

the videos look pretty bad, I’m more worried about getting the car stuck in the field than the wellies

There was talk of meeting a lad for a few pints one of the nights after it so I might wobble down!!

Would there be any difference in travelling times between the cork route and the south west route coming off the motorway.

if it stays wet like this then it’s pure hardship. Not worth the stress

I haven't seen any video clips of the site conditions. But car park condition leaving and on site conditions would matter to me. If I didn't go on Tues, I would know what to expect for the Wednesday.

If I was to go I’d be bringing 3 kids under 5 with me on my own and that ain’t happening. Did it for Virginia and we got on the finest but that’s a permanent paved site so it a different kettle of fish

planning to go on Thursday. Only 30 minute drive for me.

I promised myself last year that I wouldn’t be going back. A neighbour put it well this week when he said it’s now just a giant car boot sale.

    Not going I’ll be away.
but looking at the mud there already I don’t think I’d go.
I don’t think the show is good enough any more to put up with the hardship of being there in bad weather or bad ground conditions.

weather is atrocious. I doubt it’ll get any better in the few days. I can’t think of anything worse tbh

no way am I going that predicted weather. Was at it last year and said that will do me for a few years. Much prefer the tullamore show. I agree Brian. It is a giant car boot sale these days

Anyone coming from the south going to bypass the turnoff at the Horse and Jockey and keep going to Portlaoise? Lot of back roads to travel if you go the blue route

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 777 ✭✭✭farmertipp

jeep or car Tuesday i wonder?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,045 ✭✭✭✭road_high

looks like a nuts route. Much better head to portlaoise and join the south east/Kilkenny route- up through Thurles, templemore etc-pain in the arse if busy

The blue route is nearly the only route with no back roads at all. The grey route in particular from Portlaoise would have a lot of narrow back roads, the yellow route from Portlaoise would be better than the grey but still back roads near the end of it. The blue car park is directly opposite the main gate too so less walking when you get there.

it’s not backroads that are an issue really it’s going through towns that mess things up. It’s fairly backroads from the turn off before Mountmellick (I’ve done it before) but it’s direct. There’s no way I’d want to through Thurles etc given the choice but each to their own, I’d want as much motorway as possible

Fair enough but as someone that lives local to the ploughing I’d say you’d get in and out of Thurles 10 times in the same length of time you’ll get in and out of Mountmellick or Portlaoise once.

What way are people going from the Kilkenny side?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,045 ✭✭✭✭road_high

Last time in Tullamore i went the standard way- Ballyragget- Portlaoise- turn off before Mountmellick and out backroads route via Rosenallis. I suppose there's a few other ways you could possibly go like via Portarlington or even across the Slieve Bloom mtns.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,413 ✭✭✭jaymla627

This is the best short-cut to take to rosenallis if passing through mountrath, brings you across the edge of the slieve blooms but not up into the mountains, you come into rosenallis village and can either head the clonaslee route by turning left our head the mountmellick route by turning right

Are all the car parks grass?

Thinking of going but don't fancy the car getting dragged thru the muck.

Going tomorrow. Got tickets through work for a tenner and have an exhibitor pass for the car. Weather looks drier than was giving a few days ago. I'll be heading over the mountain early morning to it. Last year was great but someone remarked here that I treated it like a stag. Can't see that being replicated
