The importer is MOL, which is the largest Hungarian oil company. Its traded on the Stock Exchange and is not the government or state owned.

Lindsey Grahams bill would have imposed 500% tariffs on countries buying Russian oil. Trump forestalled it with the 50% tariffs on Indian oil.

The Hungarian government would have 2 choices. Either absorb the extra cost, or pass it onto consumers. Orbans popularity is already collapsing the question is will he accept an electoral defeat to Peter Magyars movement?

Orbans claim the Russian oil they get is cheaper is untrue. They refused to joint the G7 priicecap, and got am output from it from the EU. This led to higher prices in Hungary. I saw a Euronews report some months ago where Hungarians were driving to Slovakia for cheaper fuel.

As chatgtp explains (links included in the text):

    ChatGPT

    You said:

Is it true that Hungary refused to abide by the G7 pricecap on Russian oil

    ChatGPT said:

Yes, Hungary has been granted an exemption from the European Union's price cap on Russian oil, allowing it to continue importing Russian crude without adhering to the €60 per barrel cap set by the G7 nations. This exemption was secured through negotiations led by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who argued that the price cap would harm Hungary's energy security and economic interests. Meduza

The EU's price cap, implemented in December 2022, prohibits EU-based companies from providing services such as insurance and financing for Russian oil shipments priced above $60 per barrel. However, landlocked countries like Hungary, which rely on pipeline imports from Russia, were exempted from this restriction. Hungary continues to import significant volumes of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline, which passes through Ukraine and Belarus. Wikipedia

Despite the exemption, Hungary's reliance on Russian energy sources has faced challenges. In August 2025, Ukrainian attacks on infrastructure connected to the Druzhba pipeline halted Russian crude oil deliveries to Hungary, highlighting vulnerabilities in the supply chain. Reuters

In summary, Hungary has not refused to abide by the G7 price cap on Russian oil; rather, it has been granted an exemption due to its unique energy needs and geopolitical considerations.

    You said:

Did this lead to higher prices in hungary for fuel

    ChatGPT said:

Yes, Hungary's exemption from the EU's Russian oil price cap has been associated with higher fuel prices domestically. While the exemption allowed Hungary to continue importing Russian oil without adhering to the €60 per barrel cap, it did not shield consumers from rising fuel costs.

In 2024, Hungary experienced significant increases in fuel prices. By the end of the year, the average price for 95-octane petrol was 617 forints per litre, and diesel was 637 forints per litre Hungary Today. These increases were partly due to a higher excise tax on gasoline and diesel, which came into effect on January 1, 2025. The excise tax hike added 6.25 forints per litre to gasoline and 5.86 forints per litre to diesel, translating to an additional 8 forints per litre for gasoline and 7.4 forints per litre for diesel when VAT was included DailyNewsHungary.

Additionally, Hungary's continued reliance on Russian oil, facilitated by the exemption, has exposed the country to supply risks. In August 2025, Ukrainian attacks on infrastructure connected to the Druzhba pipeline halted Russian crude oil deliveries to Hungary, highlighting vulnerabilities in the supply chain Reddit.

It's really something when you have TV personalities on a right wing propaganda station calling for the murder of homeless people by lethal injection.

That's through the looking glass stuff.

Tariffs would be paid to the Hungarian government, so yes Hungary could absorb the cost. Unless you believe Trump and believe Russia could pay the taxes.

As for all the chatgpt, it seems the increase for consumers in Hungary was due to higher excise duties... Again paid to the government.

Tariffs can be bypassed far far easier than sanctions with the latter having more serious consequences for breaching.

Trump wasn't too happy when China matched his tariffs back and forth with Trump having to ultimately back down. I'd say he's looking for the EU to step in and tariff China also. I don't believe it has anything to do with Russia's war on Ukraine.

He created and ran the illegal dark net site, the Silk Road, that supported the sale of drugs, guns, people. You name it you could buy and sell it on that site.

Wasn’t there a journalist on MSNBC fired for more or less quoting Kirk.

I'm actually speechless. I never thought "murder the homeless" would be a serious suggestion beyond like dystopian science fiction.

And the lack of intelligence required to not extrapolate that given how ill defined "homeless" is as a term. The guy is asking for killing squads for non criminals, with no limit on the target.

A normal day`s work for a Nazi fascist state.

Something Trump and his cult are determined to turn the U.S. into. Didn`t work out well in the last fascist Nazi state for many who initially supported that policy as too who they ended up coming for.

Something Kilmeade, as well as others, would be well advised to brush up on seeing as Trump went from Charlie Kirk being a good friend to less important than a ballroom due to his disappointment that Kirk`s killer could not be further from who he wished it to be.

I agree with Utah's governor when he said the rhetoric in the U.S needs to be dialled down. He was referring to the violence on the internet, real and implied. I don't think Trump is in any way intent on being a calming influence as his predecessors in the presidency were when the U.S was going through a rough patch, rather the reverse.

    Motive.

So the shooter has a trans partner and the motivate has been revealed by this partner.

Something about Kirk talking about a mass shooting incident were the shooter was trans.

    Something along those lines.

I got the impression the shooters "room mate" identified as some kind of furry creature à al Gordon the Gopher or something? Messed up or what, getting inspiration to commit a murder from a 1980s glove puppet.Tyler & his "furry" friend seem to have been living in some kind of parallel video game universe. Makes no sense to me at all.

That's been a thing for quite some time now. I remember an episode of CSI (Vegas ) set in the furry world. https://www.webmd.com/sex/what-is-furry-sex

Is it really any different to people believing they are hearing the voice of God?

Not having a go at religion, but clearly there is an attempt to blame this murder on trans. But there are of course plenty of trans that never commit any crimes.

Why not pick on the fact he is white? Or male? Or American? Or from Urah? Or liked guns? Or bubblegum...

What is obvious is that yet another young white American man, with easy access to firearms, entered a dark place mentally and nobody picked up on it until it was too late

You're still scrambling I see to try and blame it on a marginalised group eh?

Black - please god let him be black!!

Nope - shooter was white? Dammit.

Maybe he was a foreigner white.

    Nope - shooter was local.

A Democrat - has to be, right? Why would a Republican do this?

    Nope - he wasn't a Democrat.

Maybe he was one of them there white Muslims.

    Nope - shooter was Christian.

Maybe he was trans! Yes, he can be white, local, Christian and trans? A bit unlikely, but still...

    Nope - he wasn't trans.

Maybe he has a friend, a roommate or a cousin who was Muslim, a Democrat, a foreigner, gay, or trans...

    So that's where you are.

Do you see how utterly pathetic it is?

Yesterday, when this latest theory wasn't around, you blamed it all on him going to college ffs.

    What a joke

So far there's no indication the room mate had anything to do with this attack(them even being trans isn't even certain). Let's remember that only a few days ago, there were claims the cartridges had pro trans messaging on them which turned out to be bs. So at this point in time, the story about the trans room mate has a lot of people expanding as much as possible on it.

So at this point in time Hamster, you've just written your preferred narrative on this. There's very little to back it up at all. So to borrow your own words, makes no sense to me at all that you've reached all these conclusions.

"So at this point in time Hamster, you've just written your preferred narrative on this."

Gordon the Gopher is hardly a preferred narrative. Just saying how it's been reported in some media outlets, I don't don't even know what it means so you can clear off with your assumptions about my narrative as you put it.

The Utah governor was obviously right about dialling it down but I suspect he wouldn’t have said that if the suspect wasn’t one of their own. Also I’d argue that the cults of religion and gun ownership are more of a root cause than social media.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,717 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

What media outlets are saying that the person is a furry? There's a rumor that they're trans and that's unsubstantiated. The furry stuff appears to be you running with a personal theory. It is somewhat of a preferred narrative if you have nothing to actually back up your claims...

Basically we have feck all information on the room mate. You've somehow transformed this into "Tyler & his "furry" friend seem to have been living in some kind of parallel video game universe. Makes no sense to me at all."...

From the reports that are available it appears the he was a follower of Nick Fuentes, who is a far far right nut job. Fuentes has been attacking Kirk for not being extreme enough. His grandmother has said he was maga as were all his family. Fox propaganda channel have a lot to answer for.

I'm referring to the actual reported information so I've never implied it has anything to do with furries... I also referenced it previously in the context of how information previously reported turned out to be complete nonsense.

Now can you link to any news outlet making the claims that you are? If not then I'm inclined to say you made up a load of nonsense or are pushing some nonsense you read elsewhere.

That is a reasonable line of thought. The belonging-to is also a strong one. A lot of modern contact is done by electronic means, not a letter in the post, as it's so handy at the fingertips and screen.

Going back to responsible adults steering public attitudes and conversation, I expect most U.S adults would hope the 1st citizen of the country would lead from the front in an adult responsible manner. Unfortunately that has not been so. At the standing-up of a person to express an opinion in opposition, the presumptive 1st citizen's response was violence "Boy, I'd like to punch him in the face". That 1st citizen, Trump, has continued that style throughout the past two presidential terms, his and Bidens.

It should have been no surprise when the public get het up in response to that presidential lead, that some-one should respond with more violence, in several cases of striking, or attempting to strike, the O/P in the face using a rifle instead of a fist, as it's become the "American" way of expressing an opinion in opposition to the O/P. This particular president, Trump, has a record when it comes to provocative action instead of leadership in bringing the kettle back off the boil. He has no trouble at all with his words making cannon fodder of U.S citizens, be then adult or child within the borders of the U.S.

Also important to note that Fuentes and his followers generally don't have too much of an issue with LGBT people, in that Fuentes himself had a relationship with a man, and there was even a leaked video of him receiving fellatio from Destiny; a popular left-leaning streamer who argues with people online (a fact I wish I didn't know).

However, trying to play off that this shooter may have known a trans person (whether roommates or a relationship) and therefore he was from "the left" is absolutely stupid considering Nick Fuentes and his followers are further from "the left" than Charlie Kirk. Even a cursory look at Fuentes' beliefs, ideologies and history would clearly show that.

But such is the desire to pin this on "the left" and link it in some way to trans people (even though if true, it was a trans person who helped turn him in to the FBI) in order to stoke culture war bullsh*t.

First when there was no information, they could say what they wanted as theories. When some information started coming out, they filled the rest of the void with lies. Now that the truth is out, there's an attempt to simply just reshape the truth to suit their narrative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,717 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Yep the absolute shift in tone from the GOP and Trump is telling. Meanwhile the unusual theories espoused by posters at this point is simply because there's a complete absence of anything backing up their views. I do wonder if the lack of information is simply cause they know his motivations but simply don't want them reported.

The left are the ones inciting violence by calling some people fascists apparently...

    Meanwhile:

Elon Musk: Musk, the owner of X, who dialled in via a video link and spoke to Robinson while thousands watched and listened, also railed against the “woke mind virus” and told the crowd that “violence is coming” and that “you either fight back or you die”.

    Xitter still trying to push the narrative on this, search page ‘news’ this morning;

    • Charlie Kirk fatally shot by leftist gunman
    • Grok falsely labels Charlie Kirk extremist, draws musk apology

This in addition to what musk said yesterday at Yaxley’s rally. He really is an utter POS
