How many Irish people have been refused so far?

Won't be surprised if it becomes something you have to do when applying for ESTA.

They'll probably have a program they put all your email addresses and social media profiles through that flags negative comments about Israel, Trump and Putin.

Just back from the US. Great time was had. No stress anywhere.

In Ireland you're lucky as the US immigration questioning is happening on Irish / EU soil. They can't detain you and send you off to some camp etc…

If not, entering the US and facing US immigration at one of the major US airports can be an experience like visitng a prison or visiting a former Eastern European country under communism.

Yeah, there were lots of glowing accounts from foreign tourists in Germany in the 30s.

Ive been a few times and always enjoyed it but the reality is its not a good time for tourists,

I visited America when Obama was blowing up people for fun in the middle East and I went to Russia post Crimea. I'd have no issues going to America now but it doesn't appeal to me over other destinations so I won't.

The place I try to avoid is Britain because they occupy us currently. Anyone who does these boycotts but gives the king their shillings needs a reality check.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/18/visa-integrity-fee-what-to-know-about-new-travel-fee-to-enter-the-us-.html

So you now have to pay $250 to enter the US as a tourist and it's unclear on how refundable that is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 453 ✭✭CoffeeImpala

I didn't read the whole article but it sounds like the fee applies to visas and not people who enter under a visa waiver program. Which would cover any Irish tourists

"Who must pay the new fee?

The “visa integrity fee” applies to all visitors who need nonimmigrant visas, which includes tourists, business travelers and international students. Some visitors, including those from Australia, Japan and many nations in Europe, may not need visas to enter under the Visa Waiver Program."

Hmm well with such analysis skills, I think it best to pass on your suggestings.

Really? Maybe you can show some

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 830 ✭✭✭PixelCrafter

Only if you need a visa. That does not apply to Irish, UK, Canadian, or the vast majority of EU tourists etc.

Saying Britain "occupies" any part of Ireland is stupid beyond belief.

    Not really

31% of all people who come to the US arrive on visa waiver.

I'd imagine that the majority of the others are non tourist types.

So I doubt it would have any major impact on the international tourist numbers coming to America as it doesn't apply to the Visa Waiver program.

I'd also wonder how much the US tourists industry is driven by American visitors v foreign visitors.

Americans tend to holiday at home, which is obvious because it's a huge country with a lot to offer.

I'd reckon tourist locations etc are likely more reliant on the US tourist than the foreign visitors.

Maybe but I'd guess that there are many businesses which rely on the money mentioned below:

Are people absolutely sure that this new integrity charge won't be to visa waiver users?

Entrants on the visa waiver are still is a class of visa, only any tourist fees werent applied but this integrity bond might be applied as a blanket charge on all visas.

While the new charges don’t apply to ESTA’s, the bill includes a price increase from $7 to $13. That won’t put any people off but its still nearly a 100% increase.

I’m just back from the US. Immigration at Dublin was fine, I’ve had worse in the past.

Card spending data amongst the bank's customers for August shows spending in the US fell significantly, down 18% on the same month last year and down 11.5% so far this year.

One of my lads arrived home today after a J1 summer in America, he hopes to go again next year, had a ball and managed a 4000 mile road trip over the last 4 weeks, he made a point of not discussing politics while there

Went across the states in 2003, ended up with around 15 Christian rock albums from various folk I met on the Greyhound bus. Apart from Grand Canyon and NYC it's nothing special, so no interest in going back.

I was also interrogated for hours because I'd been in Vietnam a few months previously. They couldn't believe that anyone would vacation there.

Canada was much more enjoyable tbh.

Visited and been there for work in the 1970s many times. If I went now it would be as a tourist and have had no desire to go for over 30 years. Even less likely to want to go with the present regime in power.

I flew back to the US last Sunday, I’m here a reasonable amount.
in the security line an American youngish couple (under 30) were discussing if their phones would be seized at pre clearance 🙄

one of mine went to university in Texas for 5 months last year.great time. Went myself to a college football game before the election, no one talks about it over there, we do more talking about it here than they do

I had a colleague who was gay and under Trumps 1st administration he said he would be afraid to go to America with Trump in power - like he'd have his gay police at the airport waiting for him or what ??

Anyway him and his boyfriend went to Morocco on a holiday.

These people are insane, they can't be that ignorant, it's all just virtue signalling.

Of course I would. It would be good to get out of this dreary dictatorship for a while. I went to Trump Tower in the US and had a great time there. There's an unhealthy obsession with Donald Trump in modern Ireland. You see it in the thread about Trump, which is an echo chamber of non-stop insulting of Trump. The problem is the immense propaganda from the horrible media.
