Anyone took a peek at ticket prices for season ahead? Very steep to say the least. £38.75 for a prom or terrace standing ticket vs the Bulls

I see the U18 schools and clubs lost, but does anyone know how the U19s went?

The near future looks as grim as it has for the last 12 years……… I bet the coach is wishing he had stayed with the U20s. When a school like MCB isn't producing players, the game is well and truly up. It seems that the emphasis on sporting excellence at MCB has been eradicated. I wonder, do they even still own Pirrie Park? For those who don't know it, it is…or was…MCB's sports grounds that held Downey House Prep School alongside various pavillions, 4 rugby pitches, hockey pitches, a cricket pitch, tennis courts and even an outdoor pool. It wouldn't surprise me if it hasn't been flogged off.

Wouldn’t write off Methody yet, they have a good Medallion team this year and got to the U16 final last year. Senior team won’t be great though. Some issues with the rugby set up but changes are apparently afoot. Pirrie Park still owned by the school and used extensively. Rugby has had a couple of down years but they recently won Irish cup in girls hockey, rowers very good etc. They are facing same issues all non fee paying schools are with getting teachers to take sports teams.

As much as it pains me to say it, rugby in Ulster needs a strong Methody. Not just the Ulster team, but also at club level from AIL to club 4th XV.

But we need more players from all schools and clubs.

Ulster does need strong methody but it really needs more from outside its real traditional sources. unless it expands beyond the few big traditional areas it wont get better/stronger. though how will its traditional areas get better/stronger?

Only 1 1A club and 3 1B clubs from Ulster. needs to change.

Anyone reckon the season ticket holders will snap up all the allocation for this? I've booked my flights already but I just googled the stadium and it's a 5,000 seater…

    Bryn Cunningham leaving Ulster.

Good for all involved really. Rightly or wrongly he's been there a long time and oversaw or been part of a lot of questionable decisions. An ulsterman through and through but exciting times ahead for both parties

    Team for Edinburgh

15 Jake Flannery, 14 Werner Kok, 13 James Hume, 12 Jude Postlethwaite, 11 Zac Ward, 10 Jack Murphy, 9 Nathan Doak

1 Callum Reid, 2 John Andrew, 3 Tom O'Toole, 4 Iain Henderson ©, 5 Matthew Dalton, 6 Cormac Izuchwuku, 7 Sean Reffell, 8 David McCann

    Bench

James McCormick, Sam Crean, Scott Wilson, Harry Sheridan, Nick Timoney, Conor McKee, Jonny Scott, Ben Carson, Marcus Rea, Ethan Graham, Lukas Kenny, Wilhem De Klerk

Good to see Izzy fit, hopefully we get a lot of games out of Hendy this season. I keep forgetting about Reffell, it would be nice if he could stay fit.

Backs wise no Baloucoune who I don't think toured with Ireland in the summer so me might be injured again.

I'm looking forward to seeing Jonny Scott and Lukas Kenny get a run. Kenny in particular has always had a decent reputation but lost a season because of bad injury after school.

I'll probably regret it afterwards because pre season games tend to be dross, but I'm still naively looking forward to getting back to Affidea (is that right) stadium tomorrow night!

£1 for a reusable pint glass as well! Class...

Pleased to see Izzy at six.

Flannery at 15? Is that a new thing?

Baloucoune is starting to concern me. It was announced over the summer he had a coaching gig with Enniskillen, not sure how that tallies with a pro player based in Belfast…

He played a full season there for the Irish U20s, and started there the following season once for Munster, but can't see much sign of him playing there a lot since.

He's 26 years old now and has played very very little rugby - 27 games total for Munster and Ulster combined, of which 10 are starts. Jack Murphy, who just turned 21, has well over 100 minutes more of pro rugby than Flannery.

Has always been a 15/10 since academy days in Munster.
Played a bit at fullback for the Irish U20's as well.

Does anyone know if Radio Ulster have bought rights to audio commentate on Ulster in the URC during the 2025 / 2026 season - I've seen nothing and with the loss of terrestrial tv coverage (except for TG4) of the URC wondering what the situation of radio commentary is. (As an aside does Radio Wales have any audio rights too?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,114 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

Might be on the BBC NI Sport website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,146 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Decent hit out for Ulster tonight. Hard to read anything into it. There was some good accuracy in at attack at times, albeit with a tendency to drift across the pitch.

Zac Ward probably the pick of the bunch. Doak and Murphy did pretty well in the first half. It was also a good night for Jonny Scott who took his try really well. It's always nice to see some young blood stepping up.

Nothing bad from an Ulster perspective, but nothing Earth shattering either

One caveat, did Edinburgh have any frontliners icon the pitch?

5 points essential in 2 weeks against Dragons

Agreed with all of this. Also thought Lukas Kenny was encouraging - knock on under his first high ball, but then took the rest very capably, and under pressure, as he was targeted by Edinburgh. Also looks to have a bit about him with ball in hand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,413 ✭✭✭Locke_Lamora

    Was that not Ethan Graham?

Izzy and Jude looked strong but it was a much weaker Edinburgh side so hard to tell.

Quite possibly but I thought Kenny was playing FB and it was the FB position? Can't tell them apart yet anyway.
