Reports the Trump administration has removed a report by the NIJ on politically motivated violence in the USA, including Far Right (including White supremacists) violence in the USA.

Someone posted the report here so we can still read it.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

I’m no fan of extreme left but you’re right, this is adding two plus two and getting five- I replied to another poster yesterday where we agreed MAGA would “find” a way to make this murder - committed essentially by someone you’d class as ordinary white American from an apple pie family - all about the democrats and transgender and what not - and they’re doing just that now.

America still hasnt found the channel, the voice and words to stand up to MAGA- and just like heroin arriving in the early 80s in Ireland after devastating New York in the 70s, I fear they are starting to export this ideology very successfully across Europe - it’s a “drug” as dangerous as any traditional illegal substance- it shows the importance of a good education and giving young people the ability to make decisions based on facts and values as opposed to made up rubbish -I have that ability- sounds like you do too- but I wonder does the younger generation

The conservatives have moved on now they know the shooters background, would advise you to look in the mirror, drop the hate and move on rather than keep on embarrassing yourself continually. Its the same show every time one of these events occur.

If you are truly sad and wish to stop similar future shootings, what would be your proposal to do so? What should trump enact to solve this (now that ragging on the "left" isn't an avenue for your hatred).

It only goes to show the sheer desperation of those on the right that they have to leap into the fray at every opportunity to try and demonise trans folk or somehow try to blame the left on everything. It's unbelievably lamentable.

Apparently the bullet casings had TRN stamped on them. So for some bloody morons that was enough to jump to the conclusion that the shooter was some sort of leftie trans rights supporter.

TRN is the trademark stamp of Turan ammunition.

As for "journalistic standards", that's an absolute joke in the States. You'd get better journalistic standards from the Beano.

Going over in October for the 4th time, tickets booked last December.

Up to a week ago I was regretful and would have cancelled if I was on my own.

But I'm now glad I'm going. While I still can.

The US is circling the drain at the moment. You'd have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to convince yourself that all is well and not regressing by the month. There is a valid argument that big business and wealth won't let it fail. The citizens and administration are extremely polarised however. There is almost unlimited access to weapons. The president deploys the National Guard for political purposes anywhere of his choosing and there is little push back. Gerrymandering is rife.

The president has 38 more months left of his term to further erode any remaining democratic norms. I am not optimistic for the US.

The quality of news dropped significantly when we stopped paying for it....

I don't think that's it. There are some decent outlets remaining.

The issue is 9/11. It happened just as the internet was catching on and spreading. There was a hunger for news which couldn't be filled so networks instead hired commentators who just provided opinions. This changed the media landscape and our relationship with news providers in a profound way. The changes remained in place and since websites are obviously much easier and faster to update than print, we still have a horde of commentators presenting opinions under a guise of legitimacy as they're on platforms people would regard, or used to regard as legitimate and trustworthy.

Some commentators can be insightful, witty, thought-provoking or whatever but a lot of them are just there to bang the same drum over and over again. This goes hand in hand with the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine by the Reagan administration. You'd have worthless hacks on Fox News effectively trying to brainwash people but because Fox News once was in the business of actually providing news, it had a veneer of legitimacy.

The news and investigative journalism need to be paid for. If we don't, someone else will. Even if we do, there's no guarantee. In the UK, we have the licence fee which funds the BBC. The BBC is run by a group of Tory sympathisers who put out dreck like this:

    image.png

People are trusting corporate media less and less but social media is a much greater evil. It's unregulated and actively tries to radicalise people. It's completely unaccountable but for some reason, people think that this is preferable to traditional media which is at least somewhat regulated.

Generating revenue mainly via clickbait contributed significantly to the headlines and the decline of the quality of journalism IMHO

Occams Razor didn't work out too well here did it. Occams Razor is how Americans run their justice system, specifically Republicans.

Looks like the MAGA hot wearing aliens were the culprits after all.

He doesn't want to talk about kirk because he can't use that story in the way he wanted to anymore.

My wife is a secondary school teacher here in Ireland and she said that Kirk’s death was all that the kids were talking about over the last couple of days. She said she had never heard of him but he was all over their social media feeds. Seems the upcoming generation could be extremely conservative.

TBH, to avoid falling into the same trap as the people who rushed to assign blame, we all still need to be extremely cautious in applying any motivation to the suspect in this case.

I would wholly agree with Robert Evans - who is extremely good at this sort of open source and internet evidence verification - that the only thing we can meaningfully assign to the suspect here based on the evidence available so far is that he was ‘terminally online’.

The justice system in America don't even wait for facts. You get hastily arranged press conferences with sensitive information discharged to a hungry media. Suspects have entire show trials through media where the local governor or Sherriff informs the world of all the "facts" and the narrative they have established.

I'm amazing everyone in America doesnt push to get their trial dismissed as there is no possibility of a fair trial due to the general public having been filled with often false narratives ahead of the trial.

For all we know the shooter influenced by religious parents did what they did to invoke the biblical rapture.

It does seem that amongst the fundi's there a willingness and receptiveness for war and destruction.

Mormonism is an odd one cause the mainstream is pretty normal these days but their sects are bat **** insane. I'm not getting the feeling that it's the case in this scenario. But I'd suspect we're gonna hear a lot of odd stuff if the FBI is transparent.

It's been a gradual process but, still, anyone following all of this should step back a minute and realise just how far political norms and discourse have fallen in just ten years.

Time was that after a high profile shooting, if the POTUS had anything to say on it at all, it would usually be a formal press conference with a prepared, carefully-written speech.

Now, Trump….. I understand his followers like his 'unfiltered', 'tell-it-like-it-is' approach, but going on Fox & Friends and saying to the nation, 'I hope he's found guilty, and I hope he gets the death penalty' represents an unbelievable turnaround. Not because he's not allowed to privately hold that opinion, but the job of a US president must outwardly be to unify and calm tensions, but Trump going on Fox & Friends to give a barstool opinion long before a trial has even taken place is the exact opposite of that.

It's not regulated here because the government is afraid they pull out of Ireland if it's regulated and we lose jobs and tax revenue.

Mark Zuckerberg and that ilk and people in Ireland get that little bit richer each time a teenager clicks on a hate, self harm, lies, suicide, radicalisation, cruelty, bullying ... link.

It's quite a disgusting situation we've put ourselves in.

There is nothing to celebrate or be proud of here. We are part of the problem. I say we, but I don't use any social media intentionally except boards. I find my anxiety and anger just explodes when I view Facebook, TikTok, ...

I do use YouTube and even after a reset of the app on my TV which I usually watch it on, I'm getting some questionable content after a few clicks.

It's getting worse now, because we can't regulate these networks as there could be threats of sanctions. You see all those tech "leaders" cosying up to Trump recently.

And its going to get a lot worse because "AI" is going to get a free pass. There will be "unlimited" numbers of "AI" agents directed by bad actors.

It's something deeply disturbing that we can see the dark future were allowing to happen and we can't or won't do anything about it.

Even placing this message seems like a radical act. That's how deranged, addicted and controlled we are.

Don't have the time to edit the above on my phone. Blah!

In fairness the Beano issued a "cease and desist" against a leading member of a right wing government , so there's no contest.

I think it really should be done by the EU as they're well able to stand up to Trump and his tariffs. I doubt they will but personally, I think social media is a cancer. It's just made the world so much worse.

I think the fact that the death of a right-wing conspiracy theorist liar "changes everything", when the shooting of kids in schools does not, tells you everything you need to know about the United States in 2025.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,197 ✭✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

I was going to say the EU, but we are milking it in here based on unregulated and dangerous tech use. It really has to be called out.

People didn't stop buying cars or driving them when car safety and road regulations are introduced or increased. It has to happen now as otherwise it's giving a free pass to much more dangerous tech and "social" networks.

I really hope the EU stand up to it. I have my fears they will capitulate. Ireland will definitely try to water down things.

People say stupid things like you can't regulate it. Yes you can, for most people. If someone wants to find or spread something dangerous you don't make it easy or cheap.

Tech companies say AI will do everything... let it **** regulate the shite they put out even if it's blocking safe content temporarily by accident. The safe content is not radicalising society.

Also, we don't need this much information 24x7x365. It's a mental health disaster. The whole way we consume this stuff has to be called out. We are drug addicts for it, intentionally made addicted by social media companies. How is that even allowed ?

How much time, money, energy, finite resources does the human race waste on this shite! It really is quite incredible.

I know this is the Donald Trump thread, but social media and tech is his bread and butter. Without it, he would be nobody, a has been businessman that nobody cares about. He can get away with anything by spreading fear, lies, hate on social media.

I am really fearful about the use of unsafe and unregulated "AI" in the next years. It is going to get very insidious in all aspects of our lives unless we put regulation in place on how it's used.

But it seems like right now, it's an arms race across companies and counties and damn the consequences. But we are too busy scrolling on social media to notice or care.

    Blah!

Big business and wealth thought they could control Hitler to roll back unions communism.

The concept of a big business as a going concern is old hat, unless you include those on corporate welfare like a lot of military/aerospace. Too big to fail is a way to extract money from the government.

Venture capital and asset stripping treat businesses like businesses treat milch cows.. The minute they aren't producing way above average it's off to the slaughterhouse so everything can be extracted. Foetal calf serum sells for a lot more than milk.

The old advice is "sell gold when everyone else is buying and buy when everyone else is selling" Now would probably be a good time to sell gold so you can buy assets are rock bottom price, if you can weather the storm like the super rich can, it would also help if you have insider knowledge or can push Trumplethinskin's buttons.
