Well they are all private companies driven by profit and regulated by a toothless entity so your cynicism might be somewhat justified

Switch the account holder to your other half, you will get new customer rates.

Pinergy confirmed that its price change will result in a 9.83% increase to typical household costs from 13 October, equivalent to €199 annually based on a domestic customer using typical consumption.

Ive just switched to EI there now from my Energia plan, rates are very similar now, but come Oct, Energia will be much higher even when I take the €50 exit fee in to account. As someone just pointed out, now isn't actually a bad time to start a new contract, at least this time next year we might know who is and isn't increasing prices again.

Not sure this is the case as its going to be the same MPRN number

I'm with electric ireland on the 24hr rate. I used to be on their day night plan. Losing my 28 percent discount and best they will offer is 18 percent.

Flogas 24hr is 23.44c standing charge rural 313.90

Electric ireland are offering me 27.93 with standing charge of 314

I'm getting an ev but the other two rates for Flogas is making a difference of 4 euro a week. I am better off with the 24hr with 8 on family and peak rate when the kids get in from school at that time and dinners.

Anyone recommend Flogas. Are they due an increase. I see electric irelanf haven't increased and not sure if they will now?

Farm is with bord gais. Only moved to them in August. Thinking of moving away from them now with the hike so interested in Flogas

I haven't been on this forum but next week is my end time. Is flogas fixed rate BWG for anyone who signs up and it is truly fixed? looks better than EI at moment

Electric Ireland will increase prices, as will Airtricity sure as night follows day. That's how competition works in the Irish electricity market

As has been stated many times in this thread already, yes and yes

Thank you. I appreciate it's frustrating when ppl ask regularly answered Q but this thread is an example of sooooooooooo many posts and many different requirements (smart vs non smart) that I'll seek forgiveness on this occasion.

The CRU dictate peak times, not the suppliers so that cannot change. EV rate being removed would be against Government policy i.e. hard to see that going anywhere with EI being owned by the government. I can see peak rates being slowly ramped up over time but I cannot see the rest of it transpiring. EI dominate market share and significantly influence prices through setting their own.

It is odd. I always thought you just had the 14 day cooling of period and outside of that you would have to pay an early termination charge if you broke the contract. It must be in the contract though otherwise they wouldn't state it. I'll see if I can get a screenshot of it.

Maybe their increase of the standing charge means they have to offer a contract break?
It'd depend on the wording of the contracts T&Cs etc.

how is bord gais electricity price going up 12-13% when oil prices are down about 10% this year?

    can anyone make sense

I didn't see that on the email about the cancellation I only swapped over in August to BGE and think I'd swap over to a non-smart plan with Electric Ireland if that is allowed

quick question and apologies as no doubt it has been answered many times before; I am with Bord Gais and obviously a huge hike today. I will check the unit rates daily cost, etc and compare to Electric Ireland but given they did not increase rates I am assuming it will be a lot cheaper to move.

I have €400 in credit with Bord Gais less outstanding usage, if I switch then it is as simple as calling Electric Ireland and making the switch, this will automatically let Bord Gais know I have left who will charge me €50 for breaking the contract and outstanding units, etc.

Oil accounts for 0.5% of the fuel mix. Oil prices have (effectively) no impact on electricity prices.

Standing charge is usually variable when on a variable tariff.

It must be something with their T&Cs or they are changing something else in the T&Cs as well allowing people to cancel for free. Of course, could be a complete **** up by their team.

Scroll down to the very bottom of the email. It's the part that most people don't bother reading.

I got the same email. I hadn't read it all the way through as I was on my phone. Time to jump without penalty methinks.

Hi all, I was hurried into BGE last year by door to door sales person (admittedly I shouldve known better!)

So I switched from Electric Ireland to BGE around December, if I contact Electric Ireland looking to "re join" will I come as new customer or? Do I need to say I had account with them before altogether, or will that just confuse things? Any help welcome please

I had a quick glance through the T&C's and the only reference I can see regarding the 30 day period is point 2 ( c ) which states ….

2(c) You can cancel your Contract within 14 days from the date you agreed to this Contract if you signed up via a website ELECTRICITY FOR YOUR HOME 5 or over the phone or 30 days from the date you agreed to this Contract if you signed up via a doorstep sales agent under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 by using the cancellation form on our website at www.bordgaisenergy.ie/ cancellation-form or by contacting us in accordance with Condition 17 (“coolingoff period”).

    Edit/ Point 5 c might cover it …

    c) We are entitled to change the price charged once we have informed you either by the publication of an advertisement in any national daily newspaper or by sending notice of the change to you by post or email or to your Online Account. We will give you thirty (30) days notice in advance of any price change taking effect. Any such advertisement or notice will state the date from which the change is to become effective. Should we not hear from you within this period, by continuing to receive the supply of electricity you will be deemed to have given your express consent to accepting this change and that you are happy for the Contract to continue on the same terms and conditions, subject to the price change.

Wasn't the case for me anyway, EI standing charge for me is €80.00 less than Flogas and the additional €20 welcome credit also, plus the microgeneration from EI is 19.5c compared to 18.5c with flogas as far as I am aware

When did we get a 'right' to terminate contract due to a price change? Others charge a termination fee
