There was a former Israeli politician on Newstalk this morning, stylised as being a moderate, who thinks this strike will improve the chances of getting the hostages… I'd have massive reservations about that theory myself but I wonder if that's the way the wider public in Israel feel as well

Be interesting to see if Qatar retaliate as the 2 nations were on a good schedule of normalisation for a while now

    1. There shouldn't be any trade in or out of the occupied settlements in the west bank at all and that should have been the case for decades.
    2. There should be nationwide sanctions against Israel for what they are doing to innocent people, not just in Gaza but all across Palestine. No other country on the planet would be allowed to get away with what they're doing without sanction and condemnation of the most stringent kind.

It's time the rest of the world stopped givng Israel a free pass to do as they wish just because of what happened to Jews 80+ years ago. They've completely destroyed that good will a long, long, time ago.

Raab, a former varsity basketball player from a Chicago suburb who became an Israeli sniper, concedes he knew that. He says he shot Salem simply because he tried to retrieve the body of his beloved older brother Mohammed.

“It’s hard for me to understand why he [did that] and it also doesn’t really interest me,” Raab says in a video interview posted on X. “I mean, what was so important about that corpse?

What was so important about his brothers corpse….

the Israel government dont not care one jot about the hostages.

They ordered the Hannibal directive to be enacted before the (pre-warned) october 7th attacks

    https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2024-07-07/ty-article-magazine/.premium/idf-ordered-hannibal-directive-on-october-7-to-prevent-hamas-taking-soldiers-captive/00000190-89a2-d776-a3b1-fdbe45520000

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jul/07/israel-idf-hannibal-protocol-hamas-attack-haaretz

    https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/asa-winstanley/army-was-ordered-kill-israelis-7-october-defense-minister-confirms

that means the IDF themselves killed "hundreds" of israeli citizens to prevent them from becoming hostages. Think about that for a second!

    https://electronicintifada.net/content/how-israel-killed-hundreds-its-own-people-7-october/49216

They have ZERO interest in returning any hostages, despite the hostages families themselves protesting outside the homes of the far-right government ministers.

    https://www.timesofisrael.com/sacrificed-on-the-altar-of-eternal-war-hostage-kin-protest-outside-ministers-homes/

“We have come to give the cabinet a wake-up call,” the Hostage Families Forum said in a statement announcing the protests, adding that the government’s “decision to sacrifice our loved ones on the altar of an eternal war” showed that it had lost its way.

Yesterdays attacks on the peace negotiators has sealed the faiths of the remaining hostages. The Israeli government are complicit in their inevitable deaths.

What i don't understand about these "there's no starvation in gaza" people is this.

For 3 months Israel denied all food entry to gaza. And since then they've been allowing in far less than the required amount. Where do they think the food is coming from? When no food entered an area with 2 million people, do they think everyone there was just ordering uber eats from across the border? Do they think Palestinians can call mana from heaven? Do they think that people can survive on fresh air?

We know there's no food going in. we know that Hamas aren't stockpiling food because 1) there's no food to stockpile and 2) Israeli generals have said Hamas aren't stockpiling food.

So what to these people think Palestinians are actually eating?

I think Israel are really targeting the kids and young people here. It's a policy. Child malnutrition often causes irreversible long term damage to a child's brain health, immune system and physical growth. I think Israel are trying to severely hinder their ability to have families and be active/able members of the community in the future. Children represent the community's dreams for the future and killing large numbers of children crush their hopes. We have all heard reports of Gazan children who would prefer to be dead. They have always targeted the children from Day 1 (hospitals, schools, baby food, sniper attacks, blocked aid etc). When blocking aid, they know that children are more susceptible to dehydration, disease and malnutrition.

Sick depraved cowards. Only muslim children though.

Pro Israeli hate Hamas because they rightly abhor the deliberate killing of civilians- except when it's Israel doing it to Palestinians. They won't have a word to say about this article. Just as they did not have anything to say about the article you posted about Israel using Palestinians as human shields.

Von der Leyen stating that there is a "man made famine" in Gaza is a start anyway (something that the regime and its psychopathic supporters have been denying all along).

Seems Israel may have completely botched the bombing raid btw. Israeli media outlets suggest there is great 'pessimism' that any significant members of Hamas were killed or injured in the attack.

They don't think. Logic doesn't come into it. Whenever I ask them a logical question, I get nothing back, and neither will you.

All they do is lie, compare things to completely unrelated and obscure events in ww2 (e.g. tHe bOmBiNg Of DrEsDeN WaSnT gEnOcIdE and countless others).

When the nonsense of their arguments are pointed out they either disappear or try throw the worlds Jewish population under the bus by saying being against the Gazan genocide means being against Jewish people (which shows the respect they have for such people).

Whether intentional or not, their posts, and the tactics of Israeli politicians, are almost identical to those of the Nazi "big lie" that was instrumental in getting people to carry out the holocaust.

It just so happens a certain cohort of people are willing to ignore logic and accept a big lie, and even propagate a lie, when those they hate can become the victims of that lie.

Im just ashamed that Irish people are either dumb enough to be taken in by it, or heartless enough to propagate it

    From Wikipedia

big lie (German: große Lüge) is a gross distortion or misrepresentation of the truth primarily used as a political propaganda technique.

The German expression was first used by Adolf Hitler in his book Mein Kampf (1925) to describe how people could be induced to believe so colossal a lie because they would not believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously".

According to historian Jeffrey Herf, the Nazis used the idea of the original big lie to turn sentiment against Jews and justify the Holocaust

It's impossible to think this isn't the tactic being deployed regarding Gaza. Most people know it's a lie, because it makes no sense, but the balls of somebody in power lying so hugely over and over again can make you doubt yourself as it is so outrageous, or even buy into it.

Donnie has said Qatar will never be struck again. Yet Danny Avalon(?) the Israeli ambassador at the UN contradicted this already. I am inclined to believe that Donnie was only informed when it was too late to stop the strike on Qatar. As someone joked recently, Bibi is the worst president the United States has ever had.

Sorry, that probably reads as though I'm directly challenging you, I'm not, just trying to make a general point that the claims by the Israeli propagandists here that they have the welfare of the hostages at heart is complete horse sh!t

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,576 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

It would be quite something if the US were forced to use their veto to protect Israel over the attack in Qatar. Xi and Putin must be laughing their heads off at Donnie. They and Bibi are playing Donnie like a fiddle.

Yeah I got that. I genuinely agree with you

I'd largely agree that targeting Hamas on Qatari soil was not a very smart move. Those hostages, if there were any, are now dead as a result. When somebody with some standing (IE the former moderate politician) argues directly in contravention of my own beliefs I do need to think about it though

Not sure if this has already been posted -

"The firm guarding sites where aid is distributed in Gaza has been using members of a US biker gang with a history of hostility to Islam to run its armed security, a BBC investigation has found.

BBC News has confirmed the identities of 10 members of the Infidels Motorcycle Club working in Gaza for UG Solutions - a private contractor providing security at Gaza Humanitarian Foundation sites, where hundreds of civilians seeking food have been killed in scenes of chaos and gunfire."

Biker gangs. Hard to believe this is reality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,404 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

    It's insane.

You have sickos cheerleading the starvation of children and biker gangs providing "security". I wonder how stringent the vetting process was for that job.

It would make your stomach turn.

I see Bibi has said the blood of Israelis is not cheap in response to the strike on Qatar, but the blood of Palestinians clearly is cheap to him . He has also stated that Israel will have no hesistation in striking Qatar again.

That sounds like silly propoganda. As they say though - paper never refused ink

One would imagine the Yanks are moving heaven and earth to get the Qataris to stay quiet on this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,158 ✭✭✭Ardillaun

Another possibility is a leak, intentional or otherwise, from the US to Israel. The Americans have poor control on that front.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,158 ✭✭✭Ardillaun

The Guardian is fantastic for this stuff. Anybody dipping into it from the US will get a completely different set of facts from the ones they usually see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 172 ✭✭Cassius99

This is exactly it. If there are no Palestinian children, then there is no future Palestinian "problem" in Israeli eyes. Taken straight from the Nazi playbook, with young children being amongst the first selected to be sent to the gas chambers upon arrival at the camps.

That Guardian article about the boy shot trying to get to his murdered brother is chilling. There is a real "Heart of Darkness" vibe going on in relation to some of the Israeli tactics in Gaza. It's clear that a certain section of society (both Israeli and international) have joined the Israeli military to play out their Call of Duty fantasies and commit legalised murder with absolute impunity.

North Americans love their dactyls. I just heard a newsreader speak of Tel Aviv rather than Tel Av-iv. In addition to the mangled place names as Gaeilge the US Google Maps lady does the same thing when guiding me round Ireland - Oranmore rather than Oranmore. One of the best known ones is Robin Hood. All sorts of explanations arise as to why it is dactylic in the US, Robin Hood, but the obvious one is that is how they often pronounce things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,478 ✭✭✭Miniegg

...if you agree with that poster, the logical next question I'm sure you are pondering is - if the raison d'etre Israeli politicians have given for this war clearly doesn't matter to them, what exactly is all this slaughter for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,158 ✭✭✭Ardillaun

Netanyahu goes out of his way to display his power in the US. When he spoke to Congress on the dangers of nuclear weapons proliferation in the ME, if you don’t mind, he invited his benefactor and former boss, Arnon Milchan, to the event. Milchan previously worked as a spy who illegally exported nuclear switches from the US for Israel’s nukes. One employee went to prison for this crime. Talk about rubbing people’s noses in it.

Greater Israel obviously, they believe themselves like the Nazis to be superior to everyone else.

It’s no surprise that when I Google Gaza biker gang under news I get the BBC and various non-American outlets in the ME, including Israel.
