We haven’t mentioned Notre Dame, who on paper had a close loss to Miami FL, but in reality Carson Beck and the Hurricanes looked superior for a lot of it. The Irish had a late comeback, and tied the game at one point very late, but Miami snuck the win. The Irish look like they’ll really miss Riley Leonard.

    The poll…

So OSU retake No 1, Texas fall to No 7, ND to No 9. And Alabama drop out of the top 20 for the first time in decades! They get two weeks against unranked opposition now, but Georgia looms at the end of the month…. On the credit side, LSU go up to No 2, Georgia a slight rise to No 4, and a re-entry for FSU at No 14.

    Week 2…

This is NFL kickoff weekend, and there ain’t a lot of FBS all-ranked ties to steal the spotlight. Actually there’s just one, No 15 Mitchigan @ No 18 Oklahoma (Sat 12:30am). If you’re looking for something to watch in the afternoon window, No 20 Ole Miss @ Kentucky is your SEC on ABC game at 8:30pm. There are seven other games on Dazn, including both No 7 Texas and No 19 Texas A&M (not playing each other, unfortunately) in the early window (5pm and the odd 5:45pm KOs respectively).

I 'd have put LSU at the top myself. They were very impressive.

I try my best to find something from the dung pile that is Week 2 in my podcast preview show

That Ole Miss game is one of them

Iowa @ Iowa State should be a good game at 5pm.

    I thought so too TBH.

If the winners of the big games, they were asked the toughest questions and came up with the answers. Clemson were good, but LSU took what they had to offer and beat them on the road. Impressive.

Clemson opened as 29.5 point favourites at home to Troy.

They're currently down 16-0 in the second quarter.

    My God, 63 - 0 now 🫣

I think you mean OSU-Grambling rather than Clemson - Troy!

The Ole Miss @ Kentucky game is a good watch, though I expect Mississippi to close it out in the end.

    Dazn, taking ABC feed.

A potential upset on the cards in Florida who are losing in the fourth quarter (albeit by only one score) to G5 South Florida.

I expect Alabama to destroy UL Monroe. They need a massive win for De Boer and to keep themselves in with a shot of climbing the rankings.

If South Florida do this they have to get at least a mid teem ranking and maybe top ten.

They beat no.25 Boise last week impressively. Boise went out and won comfortably last night.

Nico Gramatica scores the field goal to win it for South Florida.

Nico's father and two uncles were all place kickers for South Florida. His father Bill played for seven seasons in the NFL.

And they (USF) pull it off, last kick of the game, after earlier missing a long FG.

No upset in Clemson it appears, with the Tigers enjoying a two score lead with five minutes to go.

Georgia won “only” 28-6 against FCS Austin Peay, though I’m not sure that will have any long term effect.

Jakobi Lane with yet another amazing catch for his highlight reel.

Georgia do that a lot but then beat the ranked teams to keep themselves up near the top of the rankings.

Oklahoma beat Michigan in the big game of the week, which should at least see them swap places in the poll.

The other question is USF and where they enter, though it nearly doesn’t matter where because with no other G5 team in the poll being there come CFP rankings time might be enough to ensure them a play off place, provided they also win The American, of course. (They haven’t played any conference games yet).

As I predicted Alabama went nuts, 73-0 over UL Monroe.

    The poll.

Oregon up to No 4, Georgia (despite winning) down to No 6, Notre Dame up to No 8 without even playing(!), Illinois up to 9 and FSU to 10. Alabama rise slightly to 19.

USF enter at 18. Michigan collapse to 23.

USF should be higher, at the very minimum they should be 15.

"Despite winning" is a bit generous for Georgia considering they only beat Austin Peay by 22 at home, being favoured by close to 50.

A couple of years ago they didn't play well against Kent State or Kentucky but went on to win it all. It's a pretty normal thing for them. Nearly every season they do.this.

I know, it’s only Tuesday, but some good ones to look forward to this weekend.

On Sky, No 8 Notre Dame host No 16 Texas A&M. Or maybe they are. It’s in the schedules I have for Sky Sports NFL at 8:30pm but the game is actually at 12:30am. So maybe they are showing it…or not???

On Dazn, the big SEC on ABC game at 8:30pm is No 6 Georgia @ No 15 Tennessee. It’s sandwiched between No 12 Clemson @ Georgia Tech at 5pm and Florida @ No 3 LSU at 12:30am. That’s three of ten games they are showing, including Thursday and Friday night games. None of which is No 18 USF @ No 5 Miami FL which unfortunately is on The CW for its sins.

Yes. The rankings are too subjective when the season begins. I was a Ducks fan last season. They were not ranked #1 when season 2024 started, but eventually ranked accordingly after becoming the only ranked team to not lose a game all season. They started number 7 at the beginning of this 2025 season, and once again are moving up with wins.

The first two games this season resulted in runaway Duck scores. I like to win with the Ducks, but I also like good competition on the gridiron. Perhaps Northwestern this Saturday will be a better matchup?

New Mexico were on the road at UCLA last night as a 15.5 point underdog. They won by 25.

And were paid $1.25m by UCLA for doing so.

UCLA are 0-3. The other 2 games were a 6.5 underdog against Utah, and lost by 33. They were a 3.5 favourite against UNLV, and lost by 7. So in those 3 games, they underperformed by 39.5, 10.5 and 40.5. It's a worse than fathomable start to the year.

Next week it's at Northwestern, and if they don't win there, the prospect of going 0-13 is more likely than not likely given the schedule.

All of this against the backdrop of shelling out NIL millions for their new QB Nico Iamaleava, who very publicly chased the money and transferred out of Tennessee to join UCLA. He's on 6 TDs and 6 turnovers so far.

Funnily enough, the QB who's spot he took at UCLA was Joey Aguilar, who decided to move the opposite way and join Tennessee. They are sitting at 2-0, and he's on 5 TDs and 1 turnover. They host Georgia today which is a huge game.

I love these little stories in college ball.

No 12 Clemson are losing to GA Tech, but there’s a long way to go yet in that one,

For those interested Sky have corrected the time slot for coverage of Notre Dame’s game v the Aggies tonight.
