    If the city is going to grow it needs more and improved roads - as well as all the other things. May as well build them now when we can (i.e. we have the money and the political will) than at some stage when it's much harder.

    right….. sounds like the man from the article. not to object to building a bridge to connect to an existing road that is already over capacity or not to object to a new road for parkmore but ring road that provides an artery route No No No No. its like a training camp with the orange order.

    if we call something else maybe ye allow it.


    also will submit query and see what i get back. regardless this ring road will get built it is just a matter of when…. probably 2040 not that boards may be here to see it.

    What are you on about? Are you posting from the pub?

    Yes I'm against a plan that they predict will make things worse. No that doesn't mean I'm against plans that might improve things. It's really not complicated. And no I'm not allowing or blocking anything (but it's sweet that you think I'm so influential). I'm expressing an opinion. One based on reading some of the stuff they've published. And you're still offering nothing but emotive rambling based on feeing like you're right.

    Ya drop them an email. Or read some of the extensive reports they've published and are freely available.

    Ya there's a good chance it'll be built. They're literally crippling the city for over a decade to try and force it through. Still doesn't make it a good plan and I'm still against it for that reason. If by some miracle it's built and we're all able to get around in no time then I'll gladly say I was wrong. Zero issue. Because I'm only making my judgement based on what they've published.

    I’m not posting from the pub, and I’m not basing my position on feelings or emotions on the matter. you keep bringing this up and do not know why as you seem to be comfortable with your softer side. You don't know me from Adam or my qualifications. If you have gone to the effort of reading all the reports explicitly for the ring road, then i would wager you entered a submission or lodged an objection for whatever personal reasons that direct or indirectly affect you. the normal Joe what wants that built or generally doesn't care would not go to that effort.

    I am for the ring road and for PT (just have no faith in the service providers that exist today)
    at least we agree that it will get built.

    Ya I don't know you and don't care what you're qualifications are. They won't impress me whatever they are. I'm basing it purely off what you have posted which is rambling, hard to follow, lacking in any kind of substantive analysis and full of emotive nonsense about "normal Joe's" and the "orange order" (still confused about that one). If you've some amazing qualifications in you back pocket, show them off by demonstrating you learnt something while getting them.

    You've complained the methodology wasn't available but still haven't looked it up when it was pointed out that it was (happy to ignore your confusion between data and methodology as a misunderstood). If you had looked you'd know your theory on me having read it all is ludicrous because there's probably hundreds of thousands of pages. But I have informed myself on the pieces I had questions over. Which you can also do but don't for some reason. Maybe that doesn't make me a "normal Joe" but I like to make informed conclusions where possible and not just work off notions (not using the word feelings because that seems to bother you but it's the same things)

    I've never lodged an objection to this or anything else but feel free to tell yourself that. Its often easier to convince yourself that anyone that disagrees with your opinion must be some extremist nut. Couldn't possible be that others have done some reading that you won't and made an informed conclusion that differs from your notions.

    I don't think the road will be built, I said there's a good chance it will. Very different things. Your reading comprehension might need work before tackling the big documents.

    Anyway, I'll bow out now. As I said before, no point in trying to discuss things with people emotionally attached to their presupposed conclusion. Less so when they're in denial about what they're doing. If an actual discussion on the freely available methodology breaks out then I might join back in but I won't hold my breath.

    Anyone have more info on when they will be here? I know the existing TfI Coke bikes are gone at year end

    "The TfI Shared Bike scheme operates in Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford through a concessionary contract, currently held by An Rothar Nua, which will expire later this year. Although operated by An Rothar Nua, the bikes and related infrastructure (docking stations, etc.) are provided by the NTA and relevant local authorities.

    The NTA have initiated a tender process for publicly procured, but privately owned and operated shared micromobility services to replace the existing TfI schemes in the four cities when the current contract expires. It is intended that separate contracts will be put in place for the different cities, which will allow for a variety of shared mobility providers to operate in these markets."

    From this Government release back in June.

    Would be good if the new contract saw the service expanded to make it more useful.. for example it was always mad to me that it stops short of going to ATU.

    The Bóthar Stiofáin Cycle Network is starting construction on Monday 8th of September. (12 months of construction)

    If it's anything like the Castlepark ones, they'll put in proper dedicated lanes and move the bus-shelters forward so the cyclists can whizz past uninterrupted. So it is an improvement if you're a cyclist.

    Hopefully this one will in Knocknacarra will at least get used.

    Wait till he hears it's 5m and not just a few hundred grand! I do hope they connect up the end of Bóthar Stiofáin to the cemetry at some stage.

    Anything but uninterrupted. The bike lane is between the footpath and bus stop so you'll have to be very mindful every time you're passing one with passengers alighting.

    What I don't understand is why 2 bus lanes were not installed either side of that Ballybane road. 2 different bus routes use that road, and there was plenty of open space on both sides to install a bus lane in each direction. They dug up an entire wall and re-built about a metre away, just to widen the already large footpath and call it a cycle lane. I'm all for installing proper cycle lanes, but that long stretch of road has ample opportunity to put in bus lanes too. The bus drivers wanted bus lanes installed there too, from speaking to a few about it.

    You do know there are budgets given to all departments which they then use. If 5m wasn't spent on this it wouldn't go to child homelessness.

    Bikes were around Galway long before the Greens in Galway City and they will be here long after they are gone as well.

    2% might now be the no of motorbikes now - with the proliferation of e-mopeds but cycling has always been way higher in Galway City 5-6% last few decades

    I think there is an opportunity for sure to add bus priority measures - a cheaper one perhaps is to put in a bus gate at McHugh Avenue. Allow the buses to bypass the car traffic clogged junctions.

    Crazy that this dangerous design prioritising cyclists over bus users is going ahead. They’re learning the lesson in the UK that they’re dangerous by design, but not here where the “activists” are now embedded in the Council as “Active Travel” promoters
