I followed Morrison years ago at the Irish Open, his short game was phenomenal, got up and down from absolutely everywhere. Surprised he hasn't won more.

Sad reflection on the state of the DPWT (European) Tour these days. As of 13:25 Friday, of the 80 players currently inside the projected cut line in the Italian Open, only four are exempt for Portrush. The top two not exempt will get invites on Sunday.

Couple of kids at the top of the Italian Open look very impressive. Couvra from France and Ayora from Spain in particular. 22 and 20 years old. Bright futures ahead of both.

Out in 3s at the Scottish, is that tied to the weather?

Don't know but won't suit the Mac, pace of play will be awful.

Sergio didn't get picked for Bethpage so he's taking his ball home and not playing Thursday.

How on earth did he think he had a chance of a pick? A T4 in Macau this year? T12 in last years US Open is pretty good in fairness, but you'd want a hell of a lot more than that to be even considered.

Going to the Irish Open on Saturday for the first time. Where do others that have been before recommend are good spots on the course for viewing? Also do many people bring their own chairs?

Rory with a very audible F*** bomb after he missed a relatively straight forward birdie putt on the 12th.

"How the f*** did it go right?!"

Very unusual for Rory to do that. That's more like Shane.

What a shot by Rory .

An 8 iron into last is hard to understand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,048 ✭✭✭coillcam

Rory, like most pros, would say that a lot over any given event. Nothing really unusual there. This was just one of those times a hot mic was on the broadcast and caught it perfectly. You nearly need Lowry and Hatton on permanent mute or 10s delay for obvious reasons.

Anyone heard much about the date and location for the 2026 Irish Open? I know the Walker Cup is in Lahinch this weekend next year so I assume they won't put both on the same weekend.

    Hidalgo's scorecard is absolutely ridiculous.

    Screenshot_2025-09-06-14-57-41-261-edit_com.miui.gallery.jpg

The preferred lies means he wouldn't be on to break Darren Clarke's course record of 60(-12) in the 1999 European Open. Unfortunately for Hidalgo, his second shot found the water on the par 5 16th. I've played it before myself and it's an intimidating approach. It reminds me of the par 5 13th at Augusta. Hidalgo makes double bogey in the end.

Even with that damage, Hidalgo is still joint leader.

Rory not putting amazing..shows how far ahead of all these he is.

But he looks like he will rise to top slowly here.

    Driving unbelievably better.

Putting...hit and miss ..or high and wide...

    186 ball speed....

Rory has been driving like a God, but he pulled that last one badly. He needs another birdie or 2 coming home to really compete imho

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,524 ✭✭✭daithi7

Nice birdie from Rory to finish -11, just 4 back from the leader currently. (The leader may well end up 5 ahead again if he bags a likely birdie down the last).

Still a solid 3rd round from Rory, pity he's struggling so obviously with his distance control on his wedges. This probably cost him several shots today by denying him real birdie opportunities in the greens, from really good positions off his driving throughout the day. Interesting to listen to McGinley saying a reason Rory might be finding his wedge distance control so challenging is that he now plays with a high spin ball apparently, which in these winds (which they rarely get on the PGA tour) makes it extra hard to gauge apparently. The ball was stalling in the air apparently.

P.s as an aside, other than $, I really can't understand why top players play in hoodies? Seriously, that blooming hood, pulling away behind your head as you hit the ball can't be good for a top pro's biomechanics surely!?

E.g. If you look at slow mos of Rory striking the ball today, you can really notice the dead weight hood pulling on his shoulder turn.... seems stupid!?

Yeah, I'm with you on the hoodies. Seems a mad idea.

I'd seen Doonbeg and The Island mentioned in a few newspaper articles, hadn't heard RCD but I'd love if it was as I had to miss it last year and 2015

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,058 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Yeah, I thought RCD next year, then back to K-Klub, then year after Lahinch/Doonbeg?

K club is a great venue, close to major population base, just off the Motorways, excellent course, loads of space for hospitality, parking, amenities and spectator village. Thought it was very well setup.

The TV coverage on RTE is very annoying. Rory tees off, then immediately goes to the news. He's on the 3rd hole and we've only seen one live shot from him since. The birdie putt on the second hole. They've gone to ads several times, I must put a timer on it. It can't be more than 10 minutes before there's another break.

Bogey, birdie, par start for Rory. And they've gone to another break. 🙄 Definitely less than 10 minutes, maybe 5 minutes. I don't remember it being as bad yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,541 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That's 2 massive birdie putts by Rory in the first 5 holes. A 30 foot birdie putt on the 2nd and that must have been even longer on the 5th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭HanShotFirst

If your ball moves when addressing it. Even an oscillation is it definitely a penalty stroke?

McIlroys ball moved there chipping out of rough on the 9th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭HanShotFirst

    He just birdied the 9th.

I could be wrong but I’m almost sure I saw the ball move when he put his club behind it in the rough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,541 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Rory fortunate to get the birdie on 13. His putt caught the lip of the hole on the left, did a full 360°, thought about it for a second, sitting on the edge, before dropping. Could be the break he needs, and he has the outright lead at -15.

Was great, could even hear the oooh start while it stayed up till it dropped
