Hi we are heading to Northern Ireland shortly for a few days. We have Dunnes ,Tesco,Boots loyalty cards but understand these wont work in NI. Is there anyway of availing of offers/promotions from the various retailers when you don't have the appropriate card

Tesco (in Newry, don't know about others) accept an ROI card for clubcard prices - you won't get points.

For the others, you might be able to sign up, using the shop address

sign up online to nectar card for sainsburys, to get their nectar prices (similar to tesco). You need to give them a postcode, just pick a random post code.

Buy cheaper foods from Amazon, click&collect free at a post office

Check all the websites - savers, b&m, homebargains, lidl-ni (change the country in-app), sainsburys, poundland,.. And ask someone in the queue to swipe their card if you get stuck 😛

I tried this a few weeks ago, and thought it went through, but wouldn’t finish without sending a verification code to uk mobile. Even unselected mobile as for of contact.

Another reason of going up was to try out Amazon counter collection service. Handy for some stuff that won’t deliver down here, still a lot they won’t ship there either though

Poundland sell UK Sim cards in Newry might be possible to get one for free on a few spots too.

Stick the UK SIM in while in Newry use local hotspot internet download UK apps from UK app store or Google play store and toss the SIM

I had the same problem last week as changed phone recently and couldn’t restart or resign into the nectar app as no UK mobile.

In the end, ended up using a relatives QR code which also worked fine.

You don't have to enter a UK number, change the prefix to Ireland (click the UK flag) and just pick Ireland +353 and enter your irish number.

Edit: I just opened the website, signed in and it sent a 2fa code to my irish number without any issue.

ASDA will accept addresses in the Republic - in fact they seem quite keen to sign us up. (their place in Enniskillen get s LOT of weekly southern shoppers). Boots will give you a card on the spot- there are some excellent "hello" offers, €10 off etc but the points doen't transfer to their Irish card and vv.

Lads if anyone wants a screenshot of a nectar card just drop me a PM.

I use my mum's card when I'm in Newry. She barely uses the card so I probably put more on it than her!!

just tried it back home now in Dublin, and indeed it worked. But standing up in Sainsbury’s in Sprucefield last Sunday afternoon - 3 different Ireland mobiles, no luck!

Moral of the story, change or set-up ahead of time! We even tried a new account and simply no luck with Irish mobile.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but is the 2FA still working for Irish numbers? I've tried twice to set up an account using the instructions above (with separate email addresses, one with and one without the 0 at the start of the phone number). Both times the registration was completed, but when I went to log in to get the card it doesn't send the code to my phone.
