I had the exact same concern so I tested the car on a quiet road at night (the glare from the brake lights is easily visible in the rear view mirror, or you can switch on the rear camera) and these are the ‘paddle position settings’ results:

    1. freewheeling/coasting - no brake lights (obvs! 🙄)
    2. next setting (mild regen deceleration equivalent to engine braking in 4th/5th gear) - no brake lights
    3. next setting (slightly stronger regen deceleration as you would get from gentle braking) - brake lights on
    4. next as for 3.
    5. IPedal mode as for 3.

Note: further testing is needed for the condition where you adjust the regen with the accelerator pedal in settings 3 to 5 (this scenario was a highlighted problem with the Ioniq cars) where I believe the brake lights go off when the rate of adjusted deceleration matches 2. (as you would expect). Also, when the car comes to a complete stop (in iPedal) the brake lights should come on and stay on - but you might want to test all this yourself on a quiet road at night…

Any recommendations for rubber floor mats, please?

August numbers are out and our Inster moved 5 places up from the 37th to the 32nd most sold car in Ireland in 2025 from 799 units last mont to 911 in August. Still below the Seal U and Model3 but getting closer each time

What finance options are people getting for these? (If)

I just got the HP from Hyundai, it's pretty good value honestly

You should get both cables as standard. Mooney’s told me they had a shortage of granny cables and asked if I didn’t want mine. But they come with the car. Go back and get what you paid for ;)

I was at a dealership for a test drive, also said they stopped coming with the granny charging cables.

    Anyone buy one third party?

The test drive was great, it had a lot more acceleration than I was expecting

That’s not a great move by Hyundai upping the price over the year and removing the granny cable.

It’s a fantastic car for accelerating. Especially coming from a petrol car.

For a city car 0-100 isn't very important however 0-50 is and that's where the Inster excels (I've got the 49Kwh version). I smoked a boy racer type at the lights recently - he wasn't best pleased, sped past me when I eased off the accelerator!

if you get to “signing the order form” stage, simply say: “I’m sorry, if you’re not going to include the granny cable I’m done with this”. Then get up to leave.

Trust me, you won’t get near the door before the sales guy/girl squawks “OK! OK! We’ll include it!” 🤣

What prices have people paid for final on the road prices lately?

I was quoted 25700 for the 49kWh variant in black, but this is over 1000 euro above the Hyundai website price after all dealership and grants applied.

Delivery isn't free.. it states on the site that it excludes delivery

    What does this do? 🧐

    IMG_9325.jpeg

It’s the emergency release for the charger plug if the charging port/charge plug unlocking mechanism doesn’t unlock and your car is being kept ‘hostage’ by the charge plug+cable

happened to me once at a public fast charger when the machine ‘had a funny turn’ and wouldn’t allow me to remove the charging plug which meant I couldn’t continue my journey (eventually the machine reset itself and finally released the plug)

You never know, it might happen to you one day!

How much electricity do ‘systems’ use? 🧐

the Inster has its own handy built-in ‘smart’ meter, just like the one at home (probably shoved in a drawer somewhere after the novelty wore off…)

‘Ignition on’ - about 200 watts, or 2 x 100 watt old fashioned light bulbs (it fluctuates around this level)

    IMG_9355.jpeg

Heated driver’s seat (on lowest setting - plenty hot enough!) - about 100 watts

    IMG_9358.jpeg

might be useful to know if you ever get stuck in a snowdrift… 😮😅

You can play around with the various buttons +knobs to find out what all the other systems consume

The low setting on the heated seat needs to be lower!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭adam240610

Managed to get it down to 24200 for black elegance variant in the end. Deposit paid, est delivery of 11 days, not too bad!

proves the old adage: ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’ 😉 Well done!

Interestingly this shows Ireland / UK prices have reached parity - A/Trader listing new 02/‘Elegance’ for pretty much the same price (with €/£ conversion)

By rights we should be cheaper since we have a grant and they don't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭adam240610

I couldn't get near it on the Hyundai UK website, was coming out to 26.5k pounds for the same specs

I am jealous that they can pick interior and add the inside socket though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

yeah, the important bit I said “A/Trader listing new 02/‘Elegance’ for pretty much the same price (with €/£ conversion)”

    IMG_9457.png

£20,700 for a brand new 02/‘Elegance’ is pretty much exactly what @adam240610 has just paid 😊

in the year 2025 you really have to ignore Hyundai’s ‘Price list’ and dealer’s showroom prices and see the online prices!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

actually the UK govt reintroduced EV grants during the summer - up to £3,750 depending on manufacturer and model. Hyundai dealers have been advertising “£3,750” grant for the Inster (all models) for some weeks now. I don’t know whether that’s because it qualifies for the full govt grant or Hyundai have ‘topped it up’ to the highest figure?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,399 ✭✭✭✭prawnsambo

I didn't know that. Thanks. Good move by them, it was needed.

    Accessories?

    I’m talking ‘after-market’ - Hyundai’s are waay too expensive!

so, anyone bought any +were they any good?

    These have caught my eye:

    Kettle

Not got V2L? Not a problem! The Inster 12v cabin accessory port can power devices up to 180 watts max (more than many cars), making this 150watt kettle perfect for that nice hot cuppa tea!

    IMG_9463.png

    Camping air bed

recent YT camping test showed this air mattress is a perfect fit

    IMG_9462.png

    Screen protectors

choice of plastic or glass at bargain prices compared to Hyundai and available for all screens (instruments + A/c too!)

    IMG_9460.png

Suspect we’ll be seeing lots more after-market stuff on Amazon…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭adam240610

Great idea on the kettle, I also actually ordered that screen protector today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭xboxdad

I just left the factory screen protector on. Works great and I don't mind the little red tab in the corner.

..is that a bad idea for some reason?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

if you’re happy with it that’s all that matters 😊

only if you’re watching a movie or music vids might you want the better picture quality without

A screen protector is completely unnecessary, in my opinion. We've had our EV6 with a bare screen for 3 years without any issues.

In other news, finally picked up our Inster yesterday, Khaki Green. No granny charger in it (don't need it, already have one from the EV6 anyway so not bothered).

I bought a AAWireless for it, same as I have in the EV6, works without any issues.

Missus is delighted with it, especially once she found out she can mute the speed limit warnings 😂

The "eyes on the road" warning thing is actually pretty neat. She often works 11 hour night shifts, and anything that helps you get home safely is well worth it!
