What's the lowest Maximum we have ever had in September?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,909 ✭✭✭Dazler97

Don’t forget their is a total Lunar eclipse on Sunday evening, although it stars while before it rises we will still catch some while it’s rising, not everywhere will see it but currently parts of the south will see it but even if skies clear for a few minutes you may catch a glimpse of it. Moon should rise just after 8pm

As far as I can remember it was Kerry 2 years ago with a low of 22c but hopefully Syran will confirm this

Republic only: 7.8C at Phoenix Park on 24th Sep 1942

inc. Northern Ireland: 6.8C at Divis Mountain on 27th Sep 1975

Glasnevin had a min of 19.8C on 6th Sep 2016 which is the national record high min for the month.

If we had a low maximum record of 22C, this country would be absolutely boiling 😅

    Great minds!

Does appledrop mean the lowest daytime max? You'd imagine around 8c. Sryan will know!

There are plenty of great images available from the time on the Irish Weather Online photo albums section here. Makes early 2013 look very snowy!

    That's a great resource.

no he means the highest overnight low temperature, it sounds confusing because there’s highest and lowest in the 1 sentence

What do you have to do for a blue sky.

Dry here today indeed no rain expected but under the grey-ist of skies. Boooo.

I did meant the 22 degrees, not the nightime temperature.

I'm just wondering because we could have a colder than usual September after a warmer than expected August.

Low “maximum” means the lowest max temp of a month, season, year or record. Completely unrelated to the 22C. High minimum is closer related and I gave the record for that too in case you meant that but worded poorly.

You’ve confused me even more here, 22C was a night temperature 🤨 the temperature at that particular hour that is. That was not its minimum temp for those 24 hours but still an exceptionally impressive high temp for that hour of night.

We have had a lot of rain in NCD over the last 2 to 3 days . Very heavy showers and starting to go black again now . 😐

When it's not raining it is ok but chilly and strong breeze there today.

Looking out at 12.30 we had a flyover of 3 small planes in formation ! Some surprise !

    Airshow somewhere ?

On 6th September 2024 we had clear blue skies and widespread 25C, 27.4C recorded in Armagh.

Today is breezy and mild 17C and no rain with me in Meath, yet!

Right, I'll try again😁. What i want is the lowest Max for any day in September.

So a good Sept could reach say 26 but what's the worse high temperature we ever had? Im guessing somewhere around 20?

Like that it's way too cold now for September 😁

Closing windows and wearing a jumper and socks today .

    Ah I see now!

I don't have this to hand for Ireland as a whole but for Dublin Airport (you are based in NCD right), it had a max of just 17.3C in September 2015.

Big shock to the system when I flew into Dublin from Italy in the early hours and the rain was hammering down. Heavy grey cloud with a cool wind now, heating and lights on in the house, and a massive difference to 24 hours ago when I was having dinner outside under cloudless skies in 29 degree heat. Even though we had a reasonably decent summer in the SE this year, our summer season is too short and inconsistent and year on year I find myself growing more and more fed up with it. I know relentless weeks of 38 degrees isn't much fun either, but I still think it'll eventually win the battle. Anyway maybe time to head for the high stool and keep the holiday going for another few hours, hopefully the Irish team can lift our spirits this evening!

Time to start splitting some timber for the evening fires

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,315 ✭✭✭appledrop

Ah thanks everyone for the statistics as I sit here wrapped up as im freezing!

I'm either coming down with something or it has turned cold last two nights( relative) for time of year.

The wind is absolutely howling out of it here in NCD. A miserable today here today, certainly not forecast by Met Eireann.

It's a very mild evening in the midlands/southeast, still hovering around 17c even though there is a stern and gusty wind out there. The first of the rains are moving in after a cloudy slate grey day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,909 ✭✭✭Dazler97

Breezy to windy here but very mild tonight compared to the last few nights 16ºc currently
